wolf363839
If I field a Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf (base toughness of 5) and add 2 Fenrisian Wolves to him as part of his wargear, what toughness does the enemy roll against when shooting at him? (In CC it is easier since the FAQ/Codex say he fights as an independent character, so enemies must allocate to either the Wolf Lord OR the Fenrisian Wolves). Thanks! Morticon
Shooting attacks are resolved at the majority toughness of a unit. If no majority is present use the highest value. The_Betrayed_Spacewolf
so until the f. wolves are dead (usually only one shooting from a unit) the entire group is toughness 4. cheers mate as even bolters may become a problem.... MayorDaley
If you take an Iron Priest mounted on T-wolf with four C-wolves and add your WL to that unit; the unit toughness is then 5. The_Betrayed_Spacewolf
but isnt that just spending more points and not generally solving the problem? those extra wounds arent there to do much except take a lascannon shot or some other high power ap 1-3 shots before your lord gets in there and messes everything up. If you have TWL and 2xwolves the majority T=4 As soon as 1 wolf dies the unit has T5 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203764-fenrisian-wolves-as-wargear/#findComment-2429507 Share on other sites
The_Betrayed_Spacewolf
yes however is really only one f. wolf going to die? im not sure on the math hammer but surely 10 bolter shots will remove both of the wolves? so for one unit's shooting phase surely the wolves wont be there long. and then its back to toughness 5 for the rest of the game.... however against mass shooting say from ork mobs or the punisher or any other unit that can throw tons of str 4+ dice at you the wolves may be a problem.. wolf363839
Thanks for the confirmation guys. It looks like I'm going to drop the Fenrisian Wolves as well as Scouts from my army and replace them with 2 Thunderwolves armed with Stormshield/Meltabombs and Stormshield/Thunder Hammer. It's all about getting some ablaitive wounds for my Thunderwolf Lord and the ability to kill tanks and infantry at great distances... Remember with wound allocation you can split any attacks from shooting between the lord and the wolf, and they are resolved at T5 if you only have one. So say they shoot and wound you with 10 lascannons, you get to put 5 of those on the wolf and thus insure that you have less saves to make.
