maxbott
A quick question. If i get a honor guard, or two, units do they have to be deployed with the HQ choice? For instance if i run a captain and a librarian, i get the ability to run 2 units of honor guard. Now can i put my IC's with assualt squads and run the honor guard seperate? fivepointedstar
i was always lead to believe the honor guard and hq form one unit. as in its his chosen men to be his personal bodyguards. if im mistaken then wow without the retinue backing him up he'd be one loser'y type hq. "yeah yeah i roll in large groups of one"
dendrofil
Since I can't find anything in the codex saying that your IC "may be accompanied by an Honor Guard" or similiar statement, I'd say you are free to let your HG fly around on its own and let the IC play along with any other squad you may fancy. Although very unfluffy I'd say its ok to split them up since nothing really says they can't. The problem still stands thought, would you deploy them at the same time as your IC does, or on their own? Yes, you most certainly can deploy them with assault squads if you like. All of our HQ choices are IC or models that may not join a squad, and by selecting any of them(including mephiston and the sanguinor) you are given the option to select HG as a HQ unit that does not take up an FOC slot. These are completely separate units, they are not retinues. If you were forced to attach your HQ to the HG, this would mean that you would HAVE to attach Mephiston or the Sanguinor to an HG unit if you selected both. Obviously this cannot be the case. JamesI
The HG is a separate unit, they are not retinues. It does not have to remain with the IC in question, in fact DC Tycho, Sanguinor or Mephiston can have HGs but can not join them as they are not ICs. Leonaides
Old rule from previous codex's used retinues, but not any more.
