Arkio the Blessed
I'm having some difficultly deciding how to paint my sergeant's powerfist. I don't like when the fingers of the powerfist are just the same red as the rest of the armour. Do any of you know some good colours to use on the powerfists to make them seem like there "glowing". I know this is refered to as Object sourced lighting (OBL).... but I am having trouble with it. Does anyone have any pictures or suggestions on how to paint the powerfists to get this effect? Use either shadow grey or ice blue depending on how bright you want it to be. Alternatively, you could paint energy crackles along the whole gauntlet. There's probably some tutorials somewhere relating to both. Brother Tancred
I like to paint mine purple as it is different to the blue effect most people go for and looks great with the red armour. I don't do the lightning effect as the fist is alittle too small for that, just a glow around the fingures. vahouth
For some reason I always thought that the powerfist's colour is black not red, but I'm not sure... foster
Go for black and yellow stripes painted on the power fist diagonally. They will definitely stand out in a glow like fashion. I call it the "Bumble bee fist"! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203855-painting-blood-angel-powerfists/#findComment-2430941 Share on other sites
Chaplain Hiltraud
Hmmm, I've been thinking of doing my powerfists based black and then highlighted with either a progressive blue - white or progressive orange - yellow - white. I like the idea of OsL so it'll be highlighted as if there is a ball of light at the fingertips ie heavy highlights at the fingers. I must admit though, I haven't yet tried this method. So hopefully it works. Vodunius
For some reason I always thought that the powerfist's colour is black not red, but I'm not sure... From 2nd edition onwards Terminators have traditionally had a black left hand but its independent of the weapon: thunder hammer and power swords also had* black gauntlets, whilst lightning claw marines had one red claw and one black. I don't think I've ever seen GW put a black powerfist on a red power armoured BA. * current studio sgt has a red gauntlet but the lightning claw termies still have 1 red 1 black. SamaNagol
Red fist housing. Yellow fingers. Black flames coming from the front edge of the fist housing up the back of the fist. Like the old 2nd Ed rulebook cover captain... http://coolminiornot.com/156593 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203855-painting-blood-angel-powerfists/#findComment-2431308 Share on other sites

Arkio the Blessed
What I'm really confused about is the direction of the glow. Does the brightest part go towards the finger tips, or it is the brightest paint closer to the glove. I want to start with a colour like blue.. or probably purple and move it up to a white. SamaNagol
If you want to make something seem like it is glowing, you need to paint it in reverse to the 'games workshop' style of highlighting. The brightest, and therefore white light will be closest to the source, with the colour bleeding out into the rest of the surface. Ex Rackham painter Cyril Abati has a fantastic step by step guide using Space Marine eyes as an example. http://neomodel.free.fr/tuto/tuto-casque-sm.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203855-painting-blood-angel-powerfists/#findComment-2431951 Share on other sites
Chaplain Hiltraud
Wow. I tried to paint a powerfist diferently to what I normally do. I think it looks terrible!! Don't take my painting advice when it comes to powerfists. Sounded good to me in theory! But yeah here's some pics for yall to look at though before I repaint this mess this arvo. ? Mattsama
If you look at the inside cover of the current Blood Angels codex (next to Corbulo) and on page 70 of our codex, there is a Sergeant with a power fist. It's painted red. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203855-painting-blood-angel-powerfists/#findComment-2432201 Share on other sites
Tamwulf
Paint them in flesh colors. That way you can "Fist" your opponent. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203855-painting-blood-angel-powerfists/#findComment-2432206 Share on other sites
tahrikmili
Here's the last bunch of fists I painted: I was going for a hazard stripes look but it didn't look that good, it works well on chainswords though. I think black contrasts well. You might find it a bit bland for your tastes though.. Chaplain Hiltraud
@loser 2010: Wow. You have a real talent there, I looked through your whole album and I really enjoy your style; painting and converting. I really liked the checker pattern on the powerfist. Thanks for the inspiration. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203855-painting-blood-angel-powerfists/#findComment-2432355 Share on other sites
igotsmeakabob!!
I paint mine black. It started with the terminator's PFist tradition, black fists to symbolize the Rage, but I think it looks good on an powerfist. My only question is going to come when I'm painting my Sanguinary Guard. Black fist, or keep it gold? If you don't like it it's always easy to paint gold over a black basecoat :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203855-painting-blood-angel-powerfists/#findComment-2433356 Share on other sites
Lord Furioso
I've done one with the yellow and black striping, and a steel color for the fingers. All of mine have a steel color for the fingers, but another few I have one is black with a nice big blood drop hand painted on, the others are the red armour color with either blood drops/skulls or laurals.
