How are you doing?

Seer Council? Really? They fall down against Death Company.

My friend always rolls Eldrad with a 10-man Council in a Wave Serpent. Rerolling the Wave Serpent's cover saves, their own invulnerable saves, and Eldrad chopping things up with a 2+ wounding power weapon HURTS.

Oh, not even the ones on bikes? Well Eldrad is the only one who ignores saves. Everyone else has to beat 3+ and FnP. Thats a mighty expensive unit as well. Even a basic 5 man DC with a Reclusiarch would hold it up for a long while for a fraction of the points.

But Eldar is one of the reasons why so many people take Librarians/Rune Priests as their HQs.

The things that scare me currently are Mech Vet Guard and certain builds of Tyranids.

10 0 3 (might be 4.. cant remember.. lets say 4) all of my loss's have been at the hands of very experenced players, my wins have been vs experenced or good players. I Dont fall into the shiney trap and generaly take 1 tac squad and 2 ras's then either go mech or dred heavy.

I dislike a lot of the new units (storm raven and sang guard in particular, they dropped the ball on sang guard imo and the storm raven just doesnt cut it in my gaming area) and I still need training in the propper use of DC, but all that said there are some great new options (furiosos I love you!) and some solid options as well. It's going to take me a while to get back into a solid list as I need more time to test everything but currently I'm rather likeing the codex.

Oh and i do believe that wolves have our number when it comes to units and counters, Wolves are easily one of the best codex's out there.

-edit- Oh and i find with our lists currently that Mech guard are easier to deal with. Furioso's and troops that move at 12 packing 2 meltas make short work of mech guard. Its all about target priority really.

Hi Guys,

I'm posting this just after the first day of my 2nd tournament. The Previous one I won quite easily, against Tau and Marines ....this time I got in 1 Eldar and 2 Chaos...and they bit the crap out of me....I really played badly.

I run a Mephy, Libby JP, 2 SP, 3 RAS in Razorback, 1 full RAS JP, 2 Baals and " Vindies.

The highlights are...I really can get "in the face" on the first turn ...and Mephy is a Big monsters killers (killed 2 Demons and 1 Demon prince+the Eldar super Exarch that I don't remember the name)...Flamers are good, Baal with Flamestorm Cannon works well.

Lowlights...3 men RAS is understaffing your troops. they just don't have enough critical mass to react when charged or when they fail to erase the unity.

what I found really hard is to sustain the momentum of the first turn....I get ther quickly...do some nasty damage to the enemy in the first turn...than the game changes and it's like my army lost energy.

My Score with the army so far is 2 wins 0 draws and 3 losses. I'm afraid that is consistent with the other posts before. Is our new dex broken ?

As next steps I will remove 2 razorbacks, and try to fit 10 men RAs in a Rhino and a Death company somehow. I think my list is missing some kind of a DeathStarish unity (apart from mephy of course) Also I will put my SP in JPs..and give them Power weapon...they work very well.

well for sure I need to learn better how to play with them, regardless if the list is good or not...give me the leafblower that I perhaps will not do very well...I couple of games more, lots of trials to get to the right list.

My thoughts from my semi-final rounds at Ard Boyz:

The Fail:

TL HF Razorbacks

Auto/Las Predators

Drop Pods (DoA is so much better)

Libby Dreads Hurricane Bolters on Storm Ravens.

The game changers:

Assault Cannon Razorbacks

Storm Raven dropping off Blood Talon Dreads

DoA on tripple Melta squads

2x Libbies

A mix of 5 man and 10 man squads

Baal Preadtors

Now to revise the list for Chicago!

Congrats on Chicago. Do us proud.

On a side note, I find that AC/Las preds do quite well for me, but other than that I agree whole heartedly with the above

How many points is Ard Boyz?

2500, I just posted a Battle Report if you're interested.

Congrats on Chicago. Do us proud.

I'm definitely swapping them out for some Riflemen Dreads. I was on the fence before hand, and these three games proved it for me. Too many LoS problems for Sponsons, and Dreads can get into buildings. Easier cover and less cover for the enemy is always a good thing. So are Twin-Linked shots, I can tell you how many times I need a re-roll for Assault Cannons over the course of the day.

How would you guys view you codex and how you make your army lists now that some of the "new" is starting to wear off. Overpowered? Balanced but with some nice bells and whistles?

I think the new codex plays a bit differently from before and working in the new units with the old takes some time to get used to.

I started off getting smacked around and was losing 80% of my games. Im now at 19-8-3. Came 3rd in a regional tournament and today came 2nd in a tough 2500 tournament.

I think on the whole, we are exceptionally well balanced as a codex. Our crippling points costs balance us out very well. Mephiston is the only unit I would consider as being over powered, and even then he has simple weaknesses that can be exploited. The sad thing is that the opposing army has to meta for him or face the consequences.

So, all in all I say a great, great codex that is very well balanced but its no longer a beginners list.

3rd ed (into 4th) ed BA was very simple to play. 4th ed PDF became much more difficult due to the rigid structure of the dex and the costing of some units.

Now, with 5th, we've got a codex with a bucket load of options and builds, with only the most obvious ones having been discussed/unlocked.

BA has moved from the "easy" style of play to a much more finesse style army.

I for one am really enjoying it!

I would ABSOLUTELY recommend a Land Raider with Assault Terminators, a Librarian in Terminator Armour & Storm Shield, Elite Chaplain and Sanguinary Priest.

And this amazing deal can be yours for the low, low price of 845 points!

I'd love to play against this army.

I agree. I can't compare to 3rd edition, as I didn't play BA then. But the finesse style is a lot of fun.

I have steadily succes against guard, but as they mostly are low point games (750-1250) the data is not really usable.

Have had trouble with wolves, but has won the last game (1850 points). I think I have cracked that problem.

I also keep away from the shiny toys. Sanguinary Guard will never be me and Stormravens, well conversion isn't my specialty!

Mostly I run barebones Baal X 2 with AP3 flamer, DCDread, RAS, Librarians and sometimes 1-2 Vindicators.

I have 30+ Terminators off ebay, 1 LR and 1 LRC. LRC been used one time! The others..... Not at all.

Doing fairly well I must say. Since I haven't played properly for a whole bunch of years, my record of 1 Win, 2 draws and 2 losses is pretty decent. I have yet to be tabled but got pretty close when fighting IG.

Since I'm a bit new to the system and what different enemy units can do I probably make a bunch of newbie mistakes.

But that will change!

The best thing so far is when my super-assault squad of doom (10man+Libby+Priest) gets stuck in, brought a CC-daemonprince down in CC yesterday. Is nice!

I am very pleased with the codex so far to be totally honest.

One of my 11yr olds has been a BA since the new Codex, and has picked all sorts of shiny toy lists with little success; the whole group are relatively weak on tactics, compared to senior players, but he still hasn't seen a significant increase in his wins.

I am still of the opinion that 5 rounds means most units only get to engage in 1 close combat, so as long as they survive that for long enough to prevent their attacker moving on to another one, they are powerful enough already. Mephiston vs Azrael and Hive Tyrant vs Ghazkull are epic in your head, but the same as Tac vs Tac on the board!

DS Landraiders miss half the game, Stormravens have neon 'hit me' signs, and the Uber units suck up points that could be spent on objective-claiming bodies.

At the 11yr old level, C:BA is not particularly overpowered, and brings a different flavour to a C:SM format, as does C:SW.

Now the Tyranid Codex, That's got some overpowered units...but I seem to be always winning killpoint games, usually losing objective games, even with 4-5 troops choices at 1,500pts!

I have steadily succes against guard,

That is my case as well, as result from this weekend tournametn I got 4 losses and 1 massacre agains IG. Mephy is unstopable every time and got killed only once due to failed perrils of the warp agains Eldar...

Could we state that this codex was somehow driven to hunt IG? anyone agree/disagree with me?
