Hello to all

I have decided to share a great event that happened to me today in my latest game. It was my Space Wolves versus a Tyranid horde, I decided to re kit my Lone Wolf and try out something differant so I gave him MoTW and meltabombs with 2 wolves.

I charged him into a unit of hormagaunts 30 strong and took 2 wounds (his wolves died to enemy fire) but thanks to feel no pain he ignored one. As he wiped out the last 2 guants in the squad he was charged by a 15 unit strong of genesteelers. He took 11 wounds over two turns but ignored every one (I was having amazingly good luck on my roles while he didn't get a single rending hit) so after I wiped that unit out he got tired of the berserker in his midst and so he sent a Trygon after my Lone Wolf.

Though my LW did meet his end against the beast it wasent untill he took 2 of the beasts 5 remaining wounds (it had lost one to a las cannon earlier). I'm not sure how it happened but today was a great day to be a wolf :D

I have a Lone Wolf with mark of the Wulfen and storm shield, but the only time he entered battle he was gunned down by bikers (two wounds, two failed saves, two failed feel no pain rolls) obviously your Lone Wolf was more heroic than mine. :D

He is officially my favorite model ever. He always does great things against Tyranids though, when the new SW codex first came out I was playing the same opponent I did today except I was allied with a IG player and our opponents were both nids. Well my LW borded a Valkyrie which moved flat out across the board, I disembarked and was then charged by a Hive Tyrant in the following turn. I passed my counter charge test and thanks to his beast slayer special rules made all 5 of his S5 frost blade attacks (5 because Grimnar was locked in combat with his own unit of guants 11 inchs away so I used living legend) with 4 wounding. He has done a few other great things (among his list of kills are 2 daemon princes, a greater daemon, a unit of eldar banshees, the Avatar of Khaine as well as countless carnifexs) but most of his greatest moments are against the bugs.

I am actually thinking of retiring the model and turning him into a diorama of him leaping out of the back of a valkyrie into combat with a charging hive tyrant surrounded by guants

Anyone else have any epic tales concerning their Lone Wolves?

Either that or give that wolf a promotion to the Wolf Guard...he has certainly earned it. I don't have any great stories of Lone Wolves...as I have used them exactly once. In that battle, against a Black Templar player, He intercepted the charge of 7 Lightning Claw Terminators before they could reach my Rune priest and Long fang Squad. He fell but he kept them busy long enough for my Wolf Lord to ride in and avenge him. To my mind,I feel that is a good death for a Lone Wolf...He didn't manage to avenge his own pack...But he insured that no one else suffered his fate, and that is in my mind a Noble and Worthy death.

congratulations, brother! that wolf has definitely earned a promotion into the Wolf Guard! My first Lone Wolf was a termie with a frost axe, storm shield, melta-bombs (which he never acutally had to use), and two wolves. I had told my opponent in his last game that if he was able to kill his deamon prince he would have avenged his pack and receive a promotion to the wolf guard because i'm writing a short story about said Lone Wolf where he kills a deamon prince to avenge his pack. well sure enough he SLAUGHTERED said deamon. He went on to wipe out another unit before the game was over and he earned his promotion sure enough. While that wasn't such a great story, the story of how i replace my Lone Wolf in the same game is. I knew i'd need a replacement for my lone wolf once he got his promotion but i didn't know i'd get a great one from the same game. A pack of Grey Hunters had Drop Pod assaulted straight down in front of a defiler to use the two melta guns and the power fist in the squad to take it out, unfortunately 9 where wiped out before they could do anything. I kept the Power Fist guy so i could assault the defiler and actually have a chance of wounding it. Sure enough the lone Grey Hunter one shots the Defiler, survives the explosion, consolidates towards the three obliteraters that had wiped out his squad. He then went on to not only survive the 6 twin-linked plasma shots that all missed him, and the 6 power fist attacks they had, but got his counter charge and took out one and wounded another. Next round of combat he killed the wounded one and wounded the other and STILL survived! he then finished off the obliterater and became a lone wolf. Long story i know but i laughed through the whole sequence that frustrated my opponent to no end.

Why didn't you use them after that if I may ask? and that is indeed a noble and worthy death

*raises flaggon* TO THE HONOURED DEAD!!!!!

*Does best imitation of the 'Leonidas Roar' at end of 300*

Your lone wolf makes the Chapter proud! His deeds will forever live on in the Fang!

I am having the bards recite his saga so as to educate young pups on the legend of Armod the Cursed (will be posting the story soon)

Why haven't i used him after that? simple..I haven't played since then lol..It was last monday.

Howl!

Only one question popped out at me.....why did you bring melta bombs vs Nids?

Because you knew that you could waste points on your Lone Wolf and still decimate the opposition, you smug sunuvabitch! =)

It was a local tournament with set lists so I took them just in case ^_^

Ah that would make sense

Well done Brothers! You make us all proud!

Just wondering though.... Am I the only one that hears the battle cry LEE-ROY JENKINS!! as my Lone Wolf charges into the frey?

now your not!!!!!!! ^_^

LEEEEEEEEEEE-ROY JENNNNNNNNKINS!!!!!!!

Not random at all, SKirax. It was an expression of favoritism towards being able to free up his Elites slots to allow for Lone Wolves, when in his standard list, he would not do so.

With that said, I would just like to say that LONE WOLVES ARE AWESOME! Not only are they fluffy, but they're strong enough to warrent consideration against a comparatively superior force (Wolf Guard, Scouts) and yet balanced enough to be not horridly gamebreaking (unless you roll like I do. Hehe. Go go 85 point model racking up over 1000 points of enemy models.)

My opponents have come to fear my Lone Wolves more than ANYTHING else in my army, including my TWM Lord, my Rune Priests, my Long Fangs, and my ... well, my everything. Pretty much ALL firepower now focuses on my Lone Wolves first turn, including ignoring any Vindicators, Land Raiders, or anything else I take.

I take three Lone Wolves routinely... Never going back, either. These boys have NEVER failed to perform for me.

I am fairly sure i am gonna be using him again...Though I have high standards for my elite slots lol.

See at first I was a little sceptical about using up an Elite choice for just one model but the idea of a Lone Wolf was just SO cool so i tried it and have used it ever since. It also dosent hurt that I have a counts as logan and a counts as Bjorn in my HQs so I take Wolf Guard as troops which frees up some more of my Elite choices which I would normaly fill with Wolf Guard and a Ven Dread. So now I run my Lone Wolf and 2 units of wolf scouts plus I have a Ven Dread and Wolf guard in my army (so you could say I have 4 differant elite choices in my army just some are spread out among differant unit choices)

Wow, though I think you should not have promoted him to wolf guard, should have made him a wolf lord.

I tend to use Lone wolves in smaller games, 1000pts usually, 1 lone wolf with thunder hammer, storm shield and 2 fenrisian wolves, one game he charged a unit of 4 khorne berserkers and Khorne chaos lord with Terminator Armour and powerfist, the beserkers killed the wolves, one of which took down a berserker, while the lord and Lone wolf clashed, the lone wolf dashing him apart with his thunder hammer, and then died to the beserkers next turn. I admit I initially beleived they should have been a 0-3 per elite slot, but now I am happy with them.

Sadly I didn't promote him to anything :/ I have fluff for all my characters an dmy Wolf Lord is already established. In fact he's the only model in my army who has won more honours than my Lone Wolf.
