Codex cover - spelling mistake?

Not sure if this has already been spotted...

Just looking at the cover of my codex, and saw that the lettering on the central figure appears to have the letters in the wrong order - you can't see all the letters, but it looks like it spells "Sangiunius" :tu:

It's misspelt as Sangiunius on the cover. The last 3 characters does bear some resemblance to NS, but if you look carefully you can see that there is a separation between the I and the U, particularily in the serifs (where the N is completely joined), as well as the "stick" that makes up the U (look at the bottom where the U curves).

Well hey, Dante is wielding a Plasma Pistol not an Inferno Pistol on the cover as well, I suppose nobody was looking over the artists shoulder for mistakes like that. I'm honestly not that surprised... but it is funny... but no I don't think we can blame Matt Ward for this... yet... at the moment...

At first I thought it was Dante too but the picture also has a winged jumped pack. To be fair it could be a Sang. guard. Then again where are the rest of his pals and why is his plasma pistol not wrist mounted and is that weapon a glaive...

I think the point is there seems to be a few not very clear things going on in this picture. Matt Ward's fault. Many would like to think so but I thnk I am going to give him a break. Surely he cannot construct that type of art.

I think the biggest mistake on the cover was that they got a ten-year-old to draw it, who had no idea of (super)human anatomy. The central character, Sianisguininiuis as they spell it, has a ridiculously small thin head, and either a stretched neck, or his spine goes down through his right shoulderblade.

The smoke trails from the jump packs look like they were done with an eyebrow pencil.

It's almost as bad as the Tyranid codex cover. I take it Warhammer World now has a creche in its cafe with crayons on the table so that toddlers can enter a 'draw your own codex cover' competition.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

On a more serious note though, I'll never be able to look at the codex properly again...How didn't anyone pick this up before?! Rookie error.

But everyone makes mistakes and we are all human..

to be perfectly honest I was never looking at that art properly.

@Commander Sasha: I think you could be right. :)

I always thought the servo skulls looked a lil oddly shaped like the one in the foreground under the mispelt sangiunius guy looks very odd and the dimension is definately out.

And yes I too believe that is supposed to be Dante in the background. He is definately holding the Axe Mortalis. And a plasma pistol. :o I'm cool with the wings though.

New codex cover art comp anyone? :D

Also, don't mind me, I'm quite a noob in WH40K terms, but can someone explain why is everyone hating so much on Matt Ward?

"New is bad, old is better! Neh, don't like all this change!"

I believe that the negative opinions come from:

-BA players who didn't get exactly what they want

-Non BA players who think they got too much

Personally as a C:SM and 'Nid player, I think C:BA was fine, if badly illustrated!

Actually the main reason for all the Ward hate is his non-stopping promotion of the Ultramarines as well as him writing up some ridiculous fluff in C:BA. Blood Angels siding with Necrons against Tyranids? Check. Sanguinor the "myth" that almost everyone get to see because all battles in 40k are bad enough, furthermore he does a tad bit to much things to a demon that a space marine shouldn't be able to(?) (although it opens up nice theories for discussion who the Sanguinor actually are). I've also experienced hate for the name of The Sanguinor, being that it's just odd.

Ruleswise I think the codex is superb, some things could have been clearer though but I really like the layout as well as the army list.

MAAAAAAATTT WAAAAARRRRRRRDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *shakes fist*

Best mistake ever! Im going to go my local gw and point that out hahahaha

Probably something you can in no way blame Matt Ward for. First, he probably had little to no actual power over any say in it whatsoever. Second, the artist in question is, I believe, John Blanche. It's not like he's new to 40k, so it's really his fault. The reason it probably was missed is due to the folds and ruffles. Even when it was mentioned that it was misspelled, I had to look at it three or four times to make sure it wasn't words blending together, etc...

I believe the cover art is John Blanche (sp?) Never have liked his stuff myself. I think some of the other artists in the book would have handled the cover better.

As for all the Matt Ward hate, I think it's getting old, and this is from someone that think he wrote the two worst army books in fantasy: O+G and Daemons, two different ways to break and army.

That is most definitely not John Blanche. I don't know who it is, but I have seen the name before and would remember it if it were John Blanche.

Yeah, that's Gallagher. He did the previous C:SM cover (also with ridiculous poses and proportions) and a bunch of older Codexes and stuff.

That spelling mistake is just the last nail in the coffin for me, regarding to that cover. I mean, did Mr BigLegs/ThinHead really need that too??? :P
