CaptGarro
I ordered an Chaos Terminator lord which I want to convert to represent Belial. I'm using counts-as rules for my own chapter master, who is mutated by Nurgle but still loyal to the emperor (makes him kinda like a fallen angel, but he hunts them himself) The problem is my greenstuffing skills aren't that great, and I usually end up wasting a lot of stuff. I have searched and read and watched a lot of tutorials, and I think I've got the basics. I still would like a solid plan before the model even arrives. He is going to be armed with a power weapon and a storm bolter. The Chaos lord doesn't come with a sword or a storm bolter though. So first I need some help with those. The bolter is probably no problem, but do you think the power axe would suffice if I just Scraped off the face? Second, the shoulderpads. One has an eye or a face, I think, so how could I remove those, or make them look more loyalist? And the most important question was: How much is too much? Once I made a model, but you couldn't see it behind those seals and weapons and pouches and stuff. That sort of thing. How many little details should there be on the model? Also general ideas would be appreciated. I've seen the Belial showcase and the GW article about modelling DA heroes, but none of those seem to be what I want. Of course it should have robes and purity seals, but what else? Are the chaplains the only ones with those skull helmets, because I was thinking maybe using a Tomb Kings skeleton head for his helmet. E: Forgot to ask, but how do you make that ammunition belt that the heavy bolters use? That which looks like boxes linked together? Thanks for any inspiration and advice you may give -Garro Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204193-how-much-is-too-much/ Share on other sites
maverike_prime
I think you may be starting from the wrong side. Lemme just make sure I understand what it is you're going for first. You're doing a Loyalist chapter that has been physically mutated by Nurgle but is still loyal to the emperor. Not totally sure how that works fluff wise but don't let that stop you. I never did. So basically the image you want is loyalist marines, that are physically corrupted by Nurgle. Well, since you've already got the Chaos Termi lord set, I would keep the armor banding, like at the right knee and across the chest, but shave off the spikes and such. Make it look a bit more like reinforced armor as opposed to warped and chaotic armor. As for the faces... hmm not really sure what to say about those. you could try green stuffing over them and building them into more reinforced banding. As for the bolter... I'm not sure a Termi lord can take a regular bolter. I'll have to double check the codex but I'm pretty sure if you the lord/Sorcerer terminator armor, he automatically loosing his bolter and gets a Twin-linked bolter and power weapon with no option to take a bolter. KaosRaptor
Don't worry, I'm not much good at greenstuffing either ;) It just takes practise and a (somewhat, in my case) steady hand. Let me see, the Termy lord comes supplied with an axe that is usually used as a power (or daemon) weapon, but it does look somewhat evil. If you scraped off the face though, it may be a little too plain...Depends on the look you want I suppose. Easiest way though would be to take the power sword from a loyalist Terminator Sergeant and use that instead. With the Storm Bolter, the Lord does come supplied with a Twin-linked bolter which is pretty much the same thing. Just cut off the skull on top, the faces on the ammo feeds and the bayonet (if you want). On the shoulders, I would suggest cutting/filing off the main icon (eye or skull), and then possibly greenstuffing the rest of the shoulder to cover the arrows 'n' whatnot. How much is too much? Well that is completely up to you, as the modeller. Don't cover up all the details already on the model, but then don't leave it completely empty either. Just do as much as feels natural. As for the ammo belt, I was thinking about that today funnily enough, to make a posed Devastator, but so far, haven't thought of a solution. <_< They do obviously come with Devastators though, but limited in their postion. Hope I've been of some help to you, good luck. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204193-how-much-is-too-much/#findComment-2435362 Share on other sites
maverike_prime
*smacks forehead* DER! I thought you meant a "bolter" botler. I swear I can read, I really can. As for the belt feed, I've been grappling with that one for a while now cause I love the look of a marine hefting a weapon that's got a belt feed to it. I keep meaning to pick up the plasticard to try this but I never do. The only idea I've had that seems viable is cut a series of small boxed from thick plasticard, drill a hole through them width wise, and run a thin flexible wire through them. like this: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/maverike_prime/Warhammer/belt-feed.gif Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204193-how-much-is-too-much/#findComment-2435533 Share on other sites
