The Angels of Retribution

Recommended Posts

I missed this the first time around, but have just spent an enjoyable quarter of an hour flicking through, so thanks. I like the motivation and ideas behind it all, good job. The dynamism in the Terminators is great, particularly the one with the lowered claws. How did you bash together the heavy flamer in the vet squad, looks right meaty! And how is the long-legged dread coming along?

The heavy flamer is a sentinel HF that had the middle chopped out to shorten. After that picture was taken, I've added some tubing from the backpack fuel tank to the flamer. The 2nd Company Dread is on hold right now, but I'll get to him after finishing the SCs for the chapter, the Terminator squad, and the 5 man Veteran squad I have started on (the modeled one)

The FW Libby is a gem, as are your termies and Vets. The colour scheme works well. I'm not too struck with the biker and bike as a finished item -- maybe I just don't like choppers -- but creatively I take my hat off to you sir.

Keep pumping them out and keeping the blog alive.

Hey, can't win 'em all. I understand that a lot of the stuff I did on the bike won't be to some people's tastes. It's just a part of converting.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys.

Well, I worked a late night tonight, so I wasn't able to get anything new done. However, I thought it would be a good chance to post up a "finished" mini (my minis are never really finished). This is one of the terminators of the squad I worked on earlier. I thought it'd be good to get a picture up showing what my color scheme looks like when more than just the basecoats are done.

It's certainly not my best work, but it gets the idea across. The laurels on the fists still need to be done I realized when I took him out to photograph. A base will be coming soonish.

As always comments and criticism welcome!

Claws look very good. I like the red stripe down the centre line of the helmet – very old styleee. Great job.

Cheers

I

Thanks, I. He's a marine from the Consecrators, so that's where that came from. However, when I decided he was a Consecrator, I didn't think about the fact I should probably have given him some older equipment. Oops. Well, too late now!

The progress for the night (I know, not much, but it's something):

I took a quick break from Elias because I felt like finishing a model. I think we can call this one done. I added a little battle damage and gave him a base. No insignia on the shoulder yet, as I still haven't decided what I want for it. It's hard for me to come up with something that feels Dark Angel-ish without just copying another badge. Any ideas?

Of course, comments and criticism about the model are more than welcome!

And progress! I finished my second terminator, Brother Sigiel. He's an Angel of Vengeance, so thus the black helm, shoulder pad, and red shoulder shield. After pretty universal criticism about the black, I decided to try a bit more aggressive grey highlights. I decided I like this better, I just need to get more experienced with it.

Comments and criticism welcome!

And here's another model that I've been working on. I'm liking him so far. The arm and weapon details (pretty much everything grey) are still all pretty WIP and haven't gotten much further than basecoats. I was kinda waffling on whether to post him or not when he's still got a lot to do, but I'm gonna try updates more regularly. even when the mini still has some serious flaws. Seeing as how he's not gonna be finished for a bit, suggestions are more than welcome.

The sword will be painted in the same type of pattern as the claws. As will his power bayonet! -_-

Comments and criticism are welcome!

Hey, nice models! I like your tacticals and your veterans, they are very nicely converted. That longedlegged dread may be heresy though :P

I cant wait to see your librarian finished, right now it looks awsome- I really think you chose right when you made him a consecrator.

Keep up the good work

Thanks, Arioch! I intend to get back to Elias in just a bit, but I keep on getting distracted, like tonight. ;)

My distraction tonight were power weapons.

First of all, a power sword that I painted with the lightning claws I posted earlier (my first ever power sword not painted silver, actually):

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0834.jpg

Secondly, I did the same style on Titus' sword, a little bit changed:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0836.jpg

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0835.jpg

Which style do you guys prefer? Middle line, or no middle line?

Lastly, I worked on Damion's crozius. This one I was gonna paint in the same style, but after throwing some ideas around with a friend, I came up with this:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0837.jpg

The idea is that the Rock the angel stands on is the power conduit for the head of the weapon. What do you guys think?

Comments and criticism welcome. as always!

Here's some new work on Damion. My project ADHD is in full swing now. I've been taking out 5+ models every time I sit down to paint, and it's pretty much a game of minnie-miney-moe to pick one to paint (literally did that last night when before I started Damion). I worked on the greens and the black highlighting, continuing the grey highlighting I started on the terminators earlier.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0838.jpg

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0839.jpg

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0840.jpg

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0841.jpg

I like how the greens turned out. I think the jury's still out on how I feel about the grey. Doing the grey highlighting over the earlier blue highlighting I had done before resulted in an interesting effect. I might think about trying to recreate it. We'll see how I feel in the morning when my head doesn't feel like it's stoved in. As a note, the grey highlights are much brighter in the picture than in real life.

I wanted to run a basing idea past you guys for Damion (I know, I'm weird thinking about basing before he's even close to finished). My idea was to have a few dead somethings on his base (likely a Guardsmen or Eldar) and have Damion walking on one of the corpses. Cliche, I know. However, what I wanted to do was place Damion's foot where the head of one of the bodies would be. Seeing as how a Space Marine in TDA aint a light thing, I was thinking I could do some greenstuff and gore effects to have it look like the head had been crushed by his foot. Weird, cool, or not interesting?

Also, I'm working 70 hours the week of Christmas, so probably not a lot of updates till after the holidays. :/ I'll try to make up for it afterwards.

Comments and criticism welcome as always!

Holy Emperor that Crozius is stunning, as is the shading on his robe. Great painting B-CS.

Thanks, I! :)

I ready like the fluff of this chapter and the painted models look great. I will be follow this tread with interest. Dude keep this going.

If you have any feedback on the fluff, I'd love to hear it. While I've switched over to mainly painting, fluff feedback is always welcome. ;) As my work schedule has finally settled back into a more regular routine, work should resume at a good rate (for me at least).

I agree, great work on the crozius. The shading on the robe is also looking quite nice. I'd say the crushed head idea sounds intriguing. Most of the time people just have the marine standing on the head, a crushed version is not so cliche in my book.

I'm glad to hear it doesn't sound so cliche. The idea came to me as I was falling asleep (weird, I know) and seems to have stuck there. Let's hope I can pull it off.

Well damn. My first foray after getting back to painting after my crazy busy holidays (70+ hours worked in 5 days kind of busy), and this happens. Even though I have an indoor spraying area, my sealer frosted, something that has never happened before. I'll have to buy some paint on sealer (something I probably should have been using for a while) and try to fix it. While it's not nearly as bad as it could be, it actually looks worse in real life, and it's enough to bother me. We'll see what happens.

Anyways, I wanted to get some progress up, and I'm still pretty happy with the base. It's my first attempt at blood effects, and even though I had to use an improvised system, I don't think it's terrible.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0844.jpg

It's definitely not my best work. It was interrupted by my work, left off for a bit, and when I came back, I had lost a lot of my drive for it. I really had to force myself to finish him. While there are some areas in which I'm pleased, overall, I'm just glad to have him done. Well, I hope to be more positive in my next update.

Of course, comments are more than welcome. While I might have identified areas that I wish were better, the eyes of the internet are always much more discerning than mine. :)

He's looking nice! Is the shoulder pad's stripe supposed to be black?

I have no idea how to do blood or anything and how you did it, but could you sand it down or something to get the texture even? It looks a bit lumpy. I also feel it should be a bit more of a dark red, it looks a bit to orangey.

Lastly, are you going to paint "script" onto the purity seal on his sword arm?

Yeah, the stripe is black. Should it be a different color? As for the blood, it's congealing. ;) And yes to the script. I just don't know where my micropen is. :/

Thanks for the comments, guys. :)

And the progress for the night:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0847.jpg

Not very exciting, I know. But hey, progress is progress. :)

Awesome stuff BCS :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing how that biker turns out.

Thanks, Bara! :) He's on my list of things to do, that's for sure. He's just a little ways back on the list when it comes to painting.

And here's the update that I was too tired to make last night. Again, it's not a huge amount, but I'm trying to hold myself to once daily updates. (This one counts because I haven't painted yet! :) ). I'll probably have a larger update later tonight.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0869.jpg

For my first work with a Rhino and mud effects, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm not going to more weathering on it, at least for now, so all it needs to be done are some freehand symbols. Unless of course there's something I missed. :)

Also I was wondering if you guys had any ideas for symbols I could freehand and where. I'd like to get some freehand on, but I don't want to cover up the quartering lines now that I've got them where I want them. :) Any ideas would help, and I'll probably leave off the Rhino for a bit while I think and return to another model.

Comments, criticism and ideas all welcome.

Edit: I don't know why the front of the Rhino looks so grey... :P It doesn't look like that in real life. Probably just a reflection thing.

And now for that update that I promised. Two terminators that I've kinda been putting off, just because they didn't really grab me painting wise like the others did. My own fault really, seeing as how I built them. :D Anyways, I made some good progress, so here they are. There were a lot of older mistakes that I had made when I first started painting the squad before I really got everything figured out, so working on them felt like a big deal, seeing as how I had to repaint a lot of areas and consign some to "I'll do better next time", so the update might not be so exciting. It feels like a good step for me, though. :woot:

Of the two, I am much more happy with the hooded guy. The split helm guy... well he's just okay. Some basing and detailing left (specifically purity seals and some metallics) and I think they'll be done.

Comments and criticism welcome, as always! ;)

Holding myself to my goal of an update a night, here's some progress on the Rhino freehanding. It's all quite rough at the moment as I am really out of practice, but eh, what can you do. Some more cleaning up on the freehand (especially on the top, as I had to pause it for now as I work in the morning) and some stuff on the doors, and I think we're done.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0895.jpg

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0897.jpg

BTW, I think the main decal is gonna be my chapter symbol. What do you think? Also, C&C on the Rhino overall is more than welcome! :P

i am working on creating azrael's command squad based on a deathwatch killteam. i would be honoured if you allowed me to use this scheme for one of the characters

Sure! That sounds cool.

Well, the last two members of the squad are done. They're not up to my usual standard, I feel and I have some mixed feelings about them. The passion just wasn't there for sundry reasons. However, I still did want to get them posted, and now I can get a group shot of the squad.

The shield reads Victus. Kinda looks like Vicus with the shadows.

And the obligatory squad shot:

Cheers!

Thanks, I. :cuss

And working on my next vehicle, quartering started though it's still messy because I still need to actually get past just basecoats:

This Land Raider Crusader is part of my LPC vow. My goal is to have it done in 5 days or less.

Cheers! ;)
