Isiah
Looks good to me thus far . The black/bone quartered scheme looks more effective on vehicles then marines due to the larger surface areas involved. Cheers I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204248-the-angels-of-retribution/page/3/#findComment-2611284 Share on other sites
Brother-Captain Sharp
Looks good to me thus far :(. The black/bone quartered scheme looks more effective on vehicles then marines due to the larger surface areas involved. Cheers I Yeah, I definitely agree. It has more space fore the nice contrast between the colors to make an effect. Harder to quarter though! :P And continuing my progress on the LRC and my LPC vow, the bone is complete on the Raider: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0917.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0920.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0918.jpg Tomorrow is the black, and then on to the weapons and detailing. Brother-Captain Sharp
Let there be merriment! Let there be rejoicing! For today, the Dark Angels did get an update of their codex! Huzzah! In celebration, I have returned to painting after 2 nights off. Slowly, but surely, the LRC is getting done. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0928.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0929.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0930.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0932.jpg Comments and criticism welcome, as always! Brother-Captain Sharp
And here's some more slow progress. I've started on the detailing and metallics. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0933.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0938.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_0937.jpg Comments and criticism welcome, as always. Brother-Captain Sharp
Well, I had inventory today and early tomorrow, so that cut into my painting time, but I did get some done. I've started on the frag assault launchers, drilled the barrels, and painted most of the grey details (some still need to be finished, but the angel is finished). Also, I'm really getting annoyed with my purity seals breaking off. They'll have to be replaced. Grrr. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0940.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0941.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0942.jpg Hazard stripes are a pain! :o In fact, that's where most of my painting time went. Gillyfish
It's coming along very nicely. The hazard stripes may be a pain, but they do look good, so I'd say your effort was worth it! Brother-Captain Sharp
Thanks, Gillyfish! :) Small update. Inventory at work has really cut into my painting time. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0955.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0951.jpg I didn't want to get back into the hazard striping because I was tired after work and it takes a lot of effort, so I did most of the multi-melta and gunner. I tried to get a good difference between the red of the casings and the red of the Mechanicum. Undecided about it, though the darker red looks a little better URL (not an excuse, only an explanation) :) Thoughts? Comments and criticism welcome as always. Brother-Captain Sharp
I did do a little bit more painting last night, but it was incredibly small progress, so I decided to skip the update. Tonight, however, I think I have some real progress to show off. Specifically, the LRC is completed except for free-handing and weathering! We're at the homestretch. One or two more nights, and it's done! Without further ado, here we go: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0957.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0958.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0960.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0961.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0964.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0962.jpg Cheers, guys! Dark Rage
Looks awesome, I really like the caution stripes on the assault launchers at the front really makes the model stand out, cant wait to see the finished result with freehand and weathering. Brother-Captain Sharp
Thanks, Dark Rage! Well, it was longer than I anticipated. Moving has really slowed my painting. The Land Raider Crusader is as finished as I can get it. When the micropens arrive, I'll get some black writing on the paper and some white on the black areas. To break up the large areas on the top, I tried some new freehand. Hopefully it doesn't detract from the model. ;) Some people were already calling it garish, so it can't help I think. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0965.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0968.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0971.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0970.jpg The filigree was an experiment. I know it's kinda random, but I liked it. Gillyfish
It's a very nice effect indeed and adds to the model, in my opinion. The filigree is certainly unusual, but rather striking I would say. Brother-Captain Sharp
Thanks, Dark Rage. ^_^ I wanted to get some more freehanding on the sides, but I couldn't really think of much that would work and not be redundant. Maybe I'll be more creative next vehicle. :P It's a very nice effect indeed and adds to the model, in my opinion. The filigree is certainly unusual, but rather striking I would say. Thanks, Gillyfish. :( It was an experiment, but I ended up liking it. I originally painted it in a different color (white) but that ended up not working so well, so I repainted it. It looks much better now. And here's some work I was able to squeeze in tonight: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0973.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0975.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/Deathwing%20WIPs/IMG_0974.jpg So it's back to Elias. The purple force weapon was an experiment, and I don't actually have any purple, so I mixed some up. I like the rough concept. Also the dark area of the tabard is in extreme shadow when it doesn't have direct light at it. That's why it isn't brightened up any. Comments and criticism welcome, as always! Brother-Captain Sharp
Well, it's been quite a while. Between moving, losing all access to a computer (thank god for smart phones), and getting out of my painting groove, it's taken me a while to get to a point where I feel like an update is warranted. Work has restarted on Elias, and he's getting damn close to finished. Please excuse the pictures, while I did the best I could the lack of a real camera (these are phone pictures) and a lightbox means this update is more to just show what I've done. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/72b194e7.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/f9d5d467.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/daae6060.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/ab6a084d.jpg The lighting and camera washed out a lot of the depth, so I'll make sure to get access to a computer so I can get a picture up with my camera and lightbox. Also the keys relly got washed out next to the cord so I'll either repaint them silver or repaint the cord grey. Comments and criticism welcome, as always. Feels good to be updating again. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204248-the-angels-of-retribution/page/3/#findComment-2658351 Share on other sites
Brother-Captain Sharp
Here's a test speed painted Dark Angel I did as a proof of concept for a prospective commission job. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/f15553c5.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/6a2e1ead.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/cfcdeda5.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/f2534718.jpg The client specifically requested a power weapon effect like Damion's. It seemed to have made an impression, as he had me do the same thing on the armor of an Avatar I painted for him. I actually find it funny how long it's been since I painted a regular power armored Dark Angel. Comments and citicism welcome, as always. Isiah
Wow from where I am very nice green battle plate, and verrrrry smooth robes there. Red items really pop. Great DA Marine :D. Just one question - why the black right shoulderpad - Veteran status, harking back to the Legion maybe? Brother-Captain Sharp
Thanks Isiah. ;) It's a Deathwatch shoulder pad. It looks kinda black, but it's actually a dark metallic. I haven't had much time to do hobbying as I've been participating and running events all weekend. However, I got in a converting mood last night and decided to see if I could save a broken predator I picked up from a guy for $5. The piece holding on the turret had snapped off and the turret weapons had been wrecked. Enter extra bits and some brain storming! ;) The gaps will be filled with green stuff, but it covered up the rough hacking I did. And it looks cool. Bonus! ;) http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/4bb6aad0.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/b5368ee9.jpg So far, I've replaced the turret mount (wasn't fun, as the whole piece did snap off), the front plate, and the Lascannons on the turret. I know it's not a huge update, but comments and criticism welcome. Paeniteo Angelus
Nice job on the predator (I had to save one from chaos a while back so I know your pain :D ). I especially like the winged bits at the base of the lascannons where they connect to the main turret body, what parts did you use for those, some of the angel bits? Suffice it to say that my wife thought I'd dropped something expensive. Whoever told you it look garish is crazy, its spot on 40k style. That filigree work would look amazing on the black surfaces of the terminators if you could shrink it. Perhaps it could be used to denote a command squad?? Brother-Captain Sharp
@Zincite: 1. Thanks! 2. I'll get a tutorial of how I do that lava effect up when I have a chance to paint it on another model. @Puck: Wow, thanks. That means a lot to hear you think I nailed the essence of 40k. I am really happy with that LRC, and it's good to hear that I'm not happy in error. ^_^ as for the filligree, I really like the idea of adding it to terminators. That's definitely a stored idea for when I do my command squad. @Angelus: the winged bits are two of the Ravenwing fronts with some chopping. Thanks guys for all the positive comments! ^_^ And to further my challenge a little bit, here's Elias, finally finished. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/d94260d4.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/a05f5cc0.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/68d58e2a.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/08321ba9.jpg Man, I really need to get a new comp so I can take pictures that will actually work. :? Isiah
Librarian looks very good ;). Can't see much to change. But maybe use a greyish black or a dark brown for the Book and Purity Seals writing - the black looks a bit stark, and if you think about the scale and distance factor, lighter coloured text would be about right 'in real life'.
