The Angels of Retribution

Recommended Posts

Two likes and one dislike:Me likey:Everything but most i like the sword bearing dreads.I have seen many but i though the consept ridiculous, until i saw those that is.Well done you puled it off great.

The dislike comes from the chaplains crozius, isnt the head a bit huge?

Also, you have amazing gs skills,i got a hold of the stuff and i cant sculpt anything with it.

Thanks for the comments, guys! :D

@Yellow Stripe: Converting is always quick for me. Painting, not so much. I'm hoping I can power through it on him.

@Captain Semper: Thanks, frater! When I saw a GK player sitting next to me assembling a Dreadknight without the sword, I immediately got the idea to give the dreadnought one. Then he asked if I wanted his other one too! ;)

@Cactus: The Contemptor model is incredibly pose-able. No cutting or greenstuffing was required. I just used the range of motion Forge World gave the kit! It's one of my favorite kits.

@Brother Immolator: Well, yeah it is a tad large. ;) It's part of the fun of the model for me. Space Marines would totally go to war with ridiculously huge weapons. In fluff, it's the crozius off a Chaplain dread. I'm glad you like the swords. :)

And here's some progress I made on Rakiel. I think I can call the blue done. It just needs a little bit of touch up which will happen after the other colors.

I accidentally painted the left shoulder blue. It'll be repainted in the chapter colors. And I just realized one of the pommels in missing. Crap. :/ Gonna have to find that.

Comments and criticism welcome, as always. :)

He looks the part ;)! I like the dark bluish tone - if/when you blink it up (it is a relic after all) it wil be a great contrasting base! The head is also a focal point, so I look forward to see what you'll do with that!

For some reason I was hoping you'd go for the (most excellent) "halved" pattern you used for your Successor. But he IS a Librarian so blue it is... I guess the next one then?

I'll tkae it as a good thing that you're disappointed I didn't use my custom colors. That's flattering. I thought about it, but Elias is already all in blue, which sets a precedent for Librarians. I may spring for another regular Contemptor to turn into a Mortis Pattern with Autocannons. We'll see. :)

And here's the painting for tonight:

The metals are about halfway done, I'd say. I need some burnished gold for final highlighting ont he gold, and I need chainmail for the steel. Also, I plan on getting some heavy blue washes on the swords to play off the unique grey/blue of grey knights as they are currently imagined. I don't think I'll stick to their blue force sword effect though. That would be too monotone.

Comments and criticism welcome, as always.

Looking good! The metals contrast nicely with the dark blue and once finished would be truly outstanding! However I came to realize this is the "easy" part! :) The difficult bit would be undoubtedly the swords... Large surfaces that can make or break the model... Better you than me mate! :P

Thanks, Mercy of Spades.

Well, I suppose the Relic Contemptor should actually get put in this thread.

Right now, I'm working on a bike squad for the LPC. And here's something I've never done before, a group shot of all models fully or partially painted for the Angels of Retribution.

Cheers!

Well, I haven't been very active in 40k related matters, both on the forum or in painting. Also, all updates for the ETL and LPC went into other threads. However, I'd like to resurrect this one as the base fro all my Angel of Retribution projects. I've gotten back to painting, and I hope to finally finish a lot of models that have been on my painting table partially completed for quite a while.

As the first completed minis posted in the reopened thread, here is Squad Titus:

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_1145-1.jpg

Squad Sergeant Titus, Seconded to the Angels of Retribution by the Avenging Swords. 54 years of Fist of Judgement service.

At 327 years old, Titus has entered a Space Marine's late middle age. His strength belies his years, however, and he never fails to score many kills in single combat. As his squad is attached to Grand Master Damion, his role as squad Sergeant is to see off any threats to Damion's holy mission of execution.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_1146-1.jpghttp://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/IMG_1148-1.jpg

Assault Specialist Gabel, seconded to the Angels of Retribution by the Angels of Vengeance. 37 years of Fist of Judgement service.

An intimidating figure equipped with an oversized storm shield, Gabel is the first into the breach. Known for his resilience and stubborn nature, Gabel stoically weathers the enemy's greatest blows, returning the punishment with a crackling hammer which he wields with a master's precision. Utilizing only the exact amount of force needed, Gabel inevitably targets any and all weak points of walls, enemy vehicles, or combatants doomed to face him. A relentless killer, Gabel finds his purpose in the Emperor's eyes when striding over the broken and limp bodies of His enemies.

Banner Bearer Sigiel, permanent member of the Angels of Retribution. 72 years of Fist of Judgement service.

A zealous and headstrong marine, Sigiel is often seen on the battlefield shouting both encouragement to his Battle-Brothers and Rites of Execution to his enemies. His presence on the field of battle never fails to spur his comrades to greater victory. The standard entrusted to him is the Chapter Standard of the Angels of Retribution, in use sense their inception. In its heraldry it indicates their shipborne nature, their Legion of origin, the personal mark of Damion's taskforce, and a red slash for the blood of former allies shed to preserve the Unforgiven's honour.

Apothercary Hezziel, permanent member of the Angels of Retribution. 214 years of Angels of Retribution Apothecarion service.

A revered member of the Angels of Retribution, Hezziel has seen countless battles, saved innumerable marines, given the Emperor's Grace to more, and feared none. Upon elevation to Head Apothecary of the Angels of Retribution, Hezziel donned an ancient suit of Terminator armor worn by dozens of his predecessors. Inside the armor plates of the suit are etched lines, litanies and oaths painstakingly added by each previous Head Apothecary over the course of his service. The shield Hezziel carries into battle is designed to serve as both protection and a deadly weapon. The sword mounted to the front is Hezziel's own, used previously in his service. In mounting it, Hezziel attached its power source to the main cable of the shield. In the thick of battle, Hezziel can both bash with a backhand or pierce heavy armor with a downward thrust. Added by Hezziel's request is a Cyclone Missile Launcher equipped with an automated targeting system, allowing it to engage targets at ranges up to 10 km while Hezziel concentrates on his Apothecary duties. On the battlefield, Hezziel refuses to take cover or hurry, instead striding purposefully from one injured marine to the next. Unphased by any potential danger, the 500 year old veteran marches into the worst of firefights without hesitation.

Shield Brother Hadiel, seconded to the Angels of Retribution by the Dark Angels. 19 years of Fist of Judgment service.

Tasked with the protection of Hezziel and Sigiel, Hadiel operates as a reactionary force within the squad. In the event of an enemy counterattack or surge, Hadiel will spring into action, blunting and turning away any such actions. Always staying close to the two specialists of the squad, Hadiel continually covers their advance, aware of any danger. His fighting style follows his role, relying heavily on extensive shield blocking and counter-swings. Many opponents have rushed into combat with Hadiel, only to find their first swing turned away by the impenetrable mass of the storm shield. The surprise of such quick imbalance is short, as the hammer of Hadiel never fails to follow, ending all concerns and worries.

Hope you like them. As my command squad is always in the thickest of the fighting, I wanted their appearance to reflect that. So while the chipping is pretty extreme, I like it. :)

Btw, thanks for the kind comments before, guys. Sorry I never replied.

Great job on your Angels of Retribution brother! I really like the Deathwing Command Squad, giving each member a name and a small background story is a great touch too, really brings them to life. Keep up the fantastic work and give us a group shot already!

This is outstanding work Brother Captain. Just outstanding... And you are excellentaly positioned for the release of our new Codex!

I've been looking to all this excellent battle damage and the quartered paint scheme and the Apothecary from Hell and then I saw the banner. I was like  ...

Oh, and the Watch Master is not the only fanboy around here!

First of all, thanks for all the kind comments, guys. :

Hehe, love the maimed heretics at the base... Wanna throw in an Inquisitor or two in future models?

And uh.. You have a message from a blatant fanboy.

Glad you like my jabs at my friend. Some explanation: he plays many different Chaos and each dead enemy represents one of his forces. The Apothecary stands triumphant over his traitor Guardsmen, Assault Specialist Gabel strides over a dead Word Bearer (didn't want to use any bronze or it'd look Khornate) and finally, the head on Sigiel's base is from a Marine of the Black Legion, his main force. I figured I could kill 3 birds with one stone, as it were. ;)

I may throw a Grey Knight or two on some vehicle bases to get at another local player. Hmm...

Thanks for the compliments. I like to think on my models' personalities so as to model them in more believable and dynamic poses. Writing fluff for them either helps that (if I have a character idea figured out before converting), or is a secondary effect of it (I build the model and it communicates a specific idea, like Titus' calm surveyal of the field indicative of great experience, thus the grey hair).

I'll get a group shot as soon as I'm done with 2 projects: my biker captain, the second special character I converted for the force; and the second half of the Tactical squad. As soon as those are done, I'll have a legal 2500 point fully painted force. :D

Brother-Captain Sharp:

What an incredible terminator squad, brother. Gritty scheme, nice free handing, and individual stories all make for a very potent team. Thanks for sharing.

FC

Thanks, FinylCut!

I am going to collect my jaw,i think i dropped somewhere....

I also dropped the upper part too...

Oh no! You lost your head! ;) I'm glad you like them, too. It feels good to finally have 'em done.

Oh, you. You always say the nicest things. And anyways, your the hero of the LPC. I'm your fanboy. I'm glad you like the banner. I kinda winged it, but it ended up feeling like a cohesive piece to me. And did ya see the bionic leg of the Sergeant? That was one of my favorite little details.

Wow!

That's all I can say really :)

Thanks!

I have to agree -- these are pretty dramatic. Great details. Banners awesome sauce.

Cheers

I

Thanks for the compliments, I. As I paint more, I find that it's really the details that both define my painting and make it enjoyable. When I'm done with regular highlighting, it's nice, but it's when I'm done beating it like something you hit a lot (I'm terrible with analogies), that's when I feel like it's mine. I started out thinking that I was only going to weather the HQs and the command squad, but now I'm thinking all the models are gonna get at least some battle damage.

:woot:

That is all.

Coming from you, Stobz, that woot is more than enough. Glad you like 'em!

No real update today, as it was spent with family. Tomorrow, my goal is to finish the base coats on my converted biker captain.

That's a great looking squad Brother-Captain Sharp but Apothecary Hezziel is definitely my favourite. I think you've also convinced me that when (if?) I clear my backlog of unpainted terminators I should go back and add some battle damage. Truly inspirational.
