Colours of the Honour Guard?

I was browsing my bits box yesterday and found enough pieces from Assault Marines + Sanguinary Guard + DC + Terminators to make my very own Honour Guard (they look quite nice even unpainted, I'll post a WIP with them later on).

Then the question rose in my mind, are HG always golden, like they are painted in the Codex, or is that just Dante's HG? Is there any "official" take on this? Any fluff regarding their colours?

I think the official stance is that they are always (except the Sang Nov) Veterans of the 1st Company and therefore always at least have the golden helmet.

A full golden Honour Guard looks great though.. Although Golden Terminators may be a bit over the top ;-)

Haha, yeah, golden termies is a bit much. :yuck: I only snatched two pairs of Lightning Claws from them. So its not a bunch of flying golden terminators. ^_^

Ok, so red with golden helmets then. I'll probably paint some details gold as well to make them a little bit more pimped out.

I think the all-golden look should be reserved for the really famous chaps (like Dante, his HG, Tycho and the Sanguinary Guard) to really stand out from the others.

Just remember: The Sang Noviate is just that: A Noviate.. so don't make him too special looking. And the Blood Champion should be your most pimped out character.

All others are still veterans and this should show in their gear, shiny bits and honorable markings.

True dat!

Luckily he's just the regular model for Sanguinary priest sold by GW with a JP from the DC-kit.

On the Blood Champ I used more bits from the Sang. guard kit to make him really stand out. Can't wait to get home and start painting them. :)

Thanks a bunch for the help Devlonir!

And of course, if you want to do your own thing, you can do that. I'm making a unique scheme for Astrorath's HG. But, yeah, the "traditional" color is golden helmets, and it used to be that just the HG had the gold helmets, iirc. In this codex, all vets get the gold helmets. Next codex, it will probably be something different.

Mhm, I know about the whole "paint it however you want"-thing, but I want to be as close to the fluff and "official" schemes as possible for once.

Oh, and here are a few pics of them glued together:

Very nice kitbash!

In the Swallow novels, he depicts Flesh Tearers veterans as having gold helmets too. Although Black Library isn't *official*.

As it goes with Blood Angels, there's plenty of examples in the Codex of painted Honour Guard with just gold helmets.

I think it's mentioned in the codex that the color of Honor Guard armor is variable, depending on who they're assigned to. For example, Dante's honor guard may be solid gold, while one of the Captain's may be red with gold helmets. Astorath's Honor Guard might go with black armor and gold helmets, etc etc. The color of their armor is supposed to literally honor/show respect to whomever they're attached to.
