Angels of Vengeance Scouts

So, I been doing a little work on some of my scouts. They're almost done, and are certainly what I'd consider playable. Other than a couple small details, I just need to make up decals for the shoulders (lost my illustrator files with my logos, and need to remake them), and then varnish them. Well, and figure out how I want to base them.

I tried using the 'new' washes to get a little instant shading on the cloaks, but it just really dirtied them up. I sure ain't gonna repaint all that camo though, so they'll stay as they are. I do need to throw a little on the Sergeant's just so he matches.

Also, half of them are the old metal scouts, and half the new plastic ones. The metals were painted about... 5? years ago mostly with just a tiny bit of touch-up, so they don't match perfectly, but I think the unit as a whole works well together.

Not sure why they're showing up so dark now. They looked fine when I adjusted the images.

Cudos on the awesome scouts. As for the washes, I find that you will need a good bit of patience getting cloaks shaded. The wash likes to pool at the bottoms, so finding a good way to balance them and going in 4-5 layers will probably work best. I've had good success using Badab Black on red and green cloaks, but I typically have to start with a much brighter base color than I originally expected.

Very well done. I like how the red is contrast to the rest of the models. How did you get them so smooth? When ever I use red I always get brush strokes. I really like them. They should see table time at least once. You spent alot of good time, even if you use them as counts as power amrour. It would be great to see on the table top.
To get the red smooth I use a Mechrite red base to start them out. Then I do a single layer of Red Gore, just to brighten the color up a bit. After that, I take Blood Red, mix in a touch of Red Ink and a little acrylic floor polish. About 3 or so coats of that, and I get a nice smooth vibrant red. Honestly, I don't bother to worry about shading or highlighting on the red (at least for guns), I just make sure the recesses are black to provide definition. The missile launcher tube has some minor shading at the corners, just by not putting the last layers of Red out to the ends.
That is one very lightly modified Naaman with scratch built needle rifle. Originally all my characters/veteran sergeants were going to get the Dark Angels power armor Deathwing shoulderpad, which is why he's got one oversized shoulder. I think it looks fine on him, but I'm probably switching to a modified AoV logo for sergeants, with a sword behind the winged skull, so it may be coming off in the near future. I will say, I'm not sure how well his pose works with a sniper squad, it makes it hard to display them in a 'realistic' manner. But oh well, he's there, and he'll be staying for the duration.

If I can get my motivation up, you will. I just spent some time making up the decals for the guys, but I can't seem to get my printer to print with the vibrancy it used to, and the laser printer I tried bled like crazy when I tried to seal them. I'm going to have to come up with something, though.
