Hail brothers!

After seeing so many Stormraven conversions I decided to build my own one.

It's still WIP but what do you guys think so far?

WOW, is the front hull all plasticard? That looks AWESOME. I would love to have a tutorial on that if possible. No offense to everyone else who has done a conversion, but I think this one is my absolute favorite.

This, IMO, is dead on perfect. Awesome Job Sir.

Second the request for a middle window. Second the request for a tutorial as well B)

Is the top turret intended to be the TL HB? Looks like a sensor turret at the moment. Will wait to see more WIP shots.

well that's the thing, it's so damn close to perfect, that little things like lacking a bit of detail on this big flat panels stands out a little. Perfect spot for the Hurricane bolters though!

Otherwise this one is far and away the best interpretation! GW take note!!!

Whoa, incredible work here, darkrob! :( :tu:

I also second the request for a tutorial, if you want to share, of course.

That is i exactly ! how I imagined a Stormraven to look like. Great, just great...or, lets say awesome!

First off, thanks for all the compliments! :P :(

What are you planning to add (I'd like to see pipes, connections, and what not) in various areas to break up some of the large flat areas.

Pipes and vents on the back, cable lines and sensors on the top, chapter symbols/iconography on the front and a few smaller armour plates + iconography on the sides.

Very nice, but where do you fit the Hurricane Bolters
that little things like lacking a bit of detail on this big flat panels stands out a little. Perfect spot for the Hurricane bolters though!

Exactly. The side panels are reserved for the Hurricane Bolters.

and where does the Dreadnought connect to? I can't see any obvious apparatus for the Dread to hang from...

I tried to imagine how the rear grapples might look like before I started building. A computer game came into my mind. In Dawn of War you can see that the carriage is always transported underneath the Valkyrie's and Thunderhawk's hulls.

So I decied that the landing gear of my Stormraven also funktions as a grapple to carry things around. Once the Stormraven is in the air, it hovers above the Dreadnought and grabs it with it's skids, which are probably also electromagnetic. ^^

Here's an illustration:

very niice mate, you wouldnt happen to have the templates for the plastic card still would you? any chance you'd be willing to share?

Best one Ive seen... is that entirely plasticard, a valkyrie, and the targetter from a hellios?

Yeah, it's all plasticard, a valkyrie and the targetter from a helios, although the targetter can also be swapped with TL-Heavy Bolters or other weapons.

I took some photos during the building process. I'll upload them but unfortunately I've got no templates. It's the first time I build something with plastic card and I could not imagine that my first project would work out that well. It's really an amazing material and I didn't need any drawings or plans. But I will gladly provide you with dimensions, angles and the like when I'm done with my conversion.

Very nice but my only Crit would be the top wings look kinda out of place and a 3rd "window" square in the cockpit

That's a matter of taste I'm afraid. ^^

PS you just saved my land raider.

Pleased to read that. ^^

I got inspired by these two conversions made by wolfold and Dajohn (great job btw)

and also bought a Land Raider Crusader/Redeemer. But well, I didn't have the heart to butcher the Land Raider and so I tried to find a different way... ^^

Didn't know if you just haven't affixed them yet, but the pics are missing the 2 side access doors.

They're there.

I used the Valkyrie's side access doors.

Danke :)

Dann sind wir ja fast Nachbarn. Ich wohne am Rande des Ruhrgebiets, genauer gesagt in Dinslaken. Sind für mich etwa 5-10 Minuten Fußweg nach Oberhausen. In welcher Stadt wohnst du?

Hey, Oberhausen ist mein Stammladen. Vielleicht sieht man sich da mal. :) Ich komme aus Kirchhellen, ist also auch nicht so weit.

In that case, short of not being red yet, it's near perfect. Although, personally I would like to see the Dread in back to alleviate damage to all facings. But maybe this way, he could shoot enroute. ;)

I am anxiously awaiting the plans and dimensions.

I always wanted to have a Thunderhawk but paying 375 pounds for a model I can't even use in regular 40k games? No f...... way. ^^

So last year I decided to build one myself and ordered lots of plastic card in various thicknesses.

Lazy as I am, I never managed to start building it. ^^

When the Blood Angels Codex arrived and I read about the Stormraven being the Thunderhawk's little brother, I roughly knew what I wanted it to look like.

It was my first experience with plasticard and it took me from Monday to Friday, 1-2 hours each day so far. What's left to do are mostly details, missles, Hurricane Bolters and the landing skids. Might take me another 2-3 hours I guess.

Now, as promised, the photos that I took during the construction process:

I started gluing the Valkyrie parts together that I obviously needed.

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-00.jpg

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-01.jpg

Then the first question was: How do I align the wings? I just tried out all configurations that came into my mind. ^^

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-02.jpg

When I was done I wanted to make a rough draft. After drawing a few lines with my mouse, I was satisfied. Yeah I know it looks pathetic but it served it's purpose, didn't it? ^^

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-03.jpg

I took 2mm thick plasticard and started to build the nose. The tools I used were a cutting knife, a set square (ruler) and plastic glue.

As a side note, only use plastics glue when you're absolutely sure that the parts fit together properly.

With the draft in front of my eyes I did cut out the squares and put them together.

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-04.jpg

Looked and felt pretty solid but, you know, here in Germany we tend to make things more stable than they actually need to be. :P

So I added some parts and green stuff to make it a really strong construction.

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-05.jpg

Next thing I did was the hull extension on the top of the Valkyries hull...

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-07.jpg

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-08.jpg

...then added the air vent grille and closed the nose...

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-09.jpg

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-10.jpg

...applied some corrections...

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-11.jpg

...followed by contructing the cockpit window.

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-12.jpg

I then added the assault ramp, a few armour plates and rivets. There seem to be many ways to make rivets. I chose the revolving punch pliers and also drilled a few holes into the armour plates.

The last few days it was so warm over here that I finally moved into the basement. Even though I did use three lamps, the lighting condictions were worse than before. As a result I had to flatten a few places with green stuff.

http://pvpkings.com/40k/stormraven/construction/new-13.jpg

After closing the rear part, I attached the wings, turbines etc..

Well, I hope that helps you guys.

In the next days, I'll try to measure the dimensions and angles.

Exactly. The Dread also wants to know what's going on around him and prepare for the landing. :)

Tja, dann sind wir quasi Nachbarn. ^^

Ich fahr manchmal mit'm Mountainbike in die Richtung (Schwarze Heide, Haniel Halde...).

Und der Laden im Centro ist auch mein Stammladen. Vielleicht haben wir uns dort sogar schon mal gesehen. ^^
