The Crucible, BA successors

Recommended Posts

Well, here I was with a brand new idea for a chapter and a dislike of vanilla marines since they didn't fit in the assault theme I wanted for my chapter (lots of jump packs and drop pods, in your face style of playing)

Then the BA codex came out and I was a very happy camper.

Without further ado I present to you Captain Garibaldi of the Third company of The Crucible and two jump guys. Short of the chapter symbol (which is a grail) they're pretty much done.

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like them.

Somar: Not that hard to paint checkers once you get the hang of it

Blindhamster: I'm currently building/gluing/converting, but a can of Army painter's Dragon Red Primer is on its way, so it won't be long...

Mnone: Cheers mate, that was exactly what I wanted, hate the "clone marines" each is supposed to be a hero of the imperium, with individual heraldry and custom armor, and yet, they look almost exactly the same. Well, there's not a single marine who looks like the next in my army!

Small update here, just a quick conversion. I used the base piece of the Hunter-killer missile, and a pendant of the Crux Terminatus to make a thunder hammer head.

They look fantastic and individual so far. How did you make the marine on the left's shoulder pad? It looks like putty with straight lines scored in it then some sort of rivets glued on. It looks really nice.

Force rod from the first Daemonhunter Terminator? Cool old hooded mini ^_^

Your figures look great! I especially like the Chaplain – clean and unfussy paintwork, with neat freehand chequers and based on a cool selection of additional bits on the base model.

Bigger than Jesus: Yep, but cookie goes to apologist, he´s been more specific

Mikhail: Actually, I can't take credit for the shoulderpad, a friend of mine designed it and casts them in resin, the helmet on that same marine is also one of his pieces, are they cool or what?

Apologist: Cookie for you, sir! And yeah, I wasn't feeling like filing or puttying for that one, and I too think it has come along nicely only by sticking things together...

It was building frenzy today! 20+ miniatures were put together by the Emperor's Will... Plus a Doghouse pattern Gothic pair of legs are curing.

My Vindicator in process, it's being a pain in the power armor pants to get finished (first tank ever!):

Wow, what a fantastic looking army! Love what you've come up with!

I reckon you should have more checkers or white parts on the top of the Vindicator to break up the red, but it is a really, really nice red, i really dig it! :)

First Death Company marine for my army, lacking jump pack at the moment, I was going to paint them white, then I realised my terminators were already white and it would get confusing, so I went for the usual black.

Very nice, I like the little splashes of white next to the red and black. The black itself has a sort of bluish grey quality which makes him more distinct from standard BA death companies, is that on the model, or is it a result of the camera? 'Cause I quite like it.

The vindicator is good, and the battle damage is very realistic. But it looks a little less individual than the infantry. Is there some way you could add little touches, like badges and marks of honour added by the crew?

Lacking basing and backpacks, but otherwise they're done:

@ MNONE: The black is indeed bluish-grey, it's not the pictures, I usually feel that painting something pure black tends to make it flat and boring. Recipe, in case anyone is interested is:

Base: 1:2 Vallejo Black+Foundation Charadon Granite

First highlight: Add Fenris Grey

Second highlight: Add Astronomican Grey

Edge Highlight With pure Astronomican and pure White on the most prominent edges.

Tone it down with Vallejo Violet

Shadows with light washes of pure black

The tanks are indeed less personalised than the infantry, but, as said above, they were my first ones and I got pretty bored of painting them by the end, I promise next ones will be more detailed in terms of insignia and the like.

Fantastic looking mini's mate, I love the personal heraldry and the resin parts, nice smooth shading too.

However I have one niggle. A few of those heads look like straight recasts to me (I could be wrong) so if I was you, for the love of the emperor don't tell anyone your friends name because in GW's eyes, recasting is a serious copyright infringement.

Mind you, I'd kill for 30 of those Templar style helms.

Another building in WIP stage, an Imperial Bastion, currently in bunker configuration, still painting the middle section:
