A question I had, in referance to this situation. Lets say I wanted to arm my Lone wolf with SS/TH & mark. would i then be able decide wether to use the 2 base attacks TH, say against a vehicle or a MC, or the d6 +1 wolfen, against a mob?

This has been discussed a bit in another thread so I´m sure you can search it, and I dont think there is a clear consensus. If MotW counts as a "Rending Special Weapon" then yes you could switch, but (and I agree more with this variant) MotW could also been seen as an ability rather than a special weapon.. which means you would not get to choose between the two.

Just to reiterate: pg 62 - Mark of the Wulfen - "... A model bearing the Mark of the Wulfen has the Rending special rule in close combat. Furthermore he replaces his usual Attacks characteristic with D6+1, rolled immediately prior to when the model makes his attacks. These attacks are made using the marked models' claws and teeth, and hence are not affected by wargear, additional hand weapons and so on, though they may be bolstered by other factors (the bonus for charging, Logan Grimar's Living Legend ability, etc)."

One of the only times that GW actually elaborates on a wargear description and state the specific nature.

Read this way your model with Mark of the Wulfen completely replaces his attack characteristic with D6+1, regardless if he was a 1 Attack Scout or a 4 Attack Wolf Lord (not that any sane person would give their Wolf Lord MotW lol). Furthermore he cannot "switch off" his wulfen ability to use a special weapon or benefit from a special weapons' rule (frost weapon +1 strength for example) in CC.

Yes all this was ? confusing I think, months ago when the codex was released but is very clear now.

I use a lone wolf with MoTW a storm shield and melta bombe..I am thinking about a combie weapon for him to add to the craziness. I was thinking it would be cool to get a jump pack as well.. He is around 70 points (I think) at the moment.

Might make a wolf guard squad small enough to lead a few packs and leave a MoTW dude as the remaining pack.. but it would not be as potent I think.

It occurs to me now can a MoTW use melta Bombs?
