Different Space Wolves Codex’s

I didn’t really want to make a whole new topic for this but I’ve been unable to find the answer 100% or another suitable topic to hijack

How many Space wolves codex’s have there been? As far as I can gather there have been 3, 2nd Ed, 3rd Ed and 5th Ed however I have been unable to either find any others or find anything that states these are the only ones.

Also of what use fluff wise are the previous editions? I’ve heard of second edition (I think second edition anyway) containing an epic account of a battle with Orcs. Are there any great fluff reasons for me to get my hands on a copy of other codexes if possible? (besides 5th Ed)

P.S. I'm about as new to 40k as my join date to this forum suggests

Well, if you want to count Eye of Terror (13th Company), there's 4.

And if you count the Book of the Astronomican, that makes 5. That book contained the first ever separate army list for Space Wolves, that I am aware of, and was produced fairly early in the life of 40k (1988 IIRC). Although not a codex, White Dwarf issues #156 and 157 (Dec 1992 and Jan 1993), was a late Rogue Trader-era (1st Edition of the game) revision of the Space Wolves that changed most of the earlier information on the Chapter and made it into what we know it as today. Those White Dwarf's introduced all of the familiar units, as well as all of the famous Special Characters, such as Ragnar, Logan, and Njal. The 2nd Edition codex (1994) took all of that White Dwarf info and translated it into the 2nd Edition format. If you really are interested in learning about the Space Wolves, then I highly recommend that you find an old copy of the 2nd Edition Codex, as all of the best fluff is in there. The style of all of the early 3rd Edition codices (the mini-codices) were in a "minimalist" direction; they were all very small, with hardly any fluff. They pretty much just had the rules and army list, with very little extras. If you don't have the 3rd Edition codex then don't bother getting it, as there isn't much in it anyway, and nothing that the 2nd or 5th Edition codices wouldn't give you anyway.

Best Regards,
