CosmicCreations
Hi everyone, I got bored this morning and decided to have a go at NMM after seeing many fine examples on here lately. I would really like some feedback, I've only done the left shoulder guard trim for the moment, just to start off small... http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo11/Cosmic_Castaway2157/NMM%20and%20Other%20attempts/Photo1099.jpg http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo11/Cosmic_Castaway2157/NMM%20and%20Other%20attempts/Photo1102.jpg Ignore the red armour, he's an old mini I found to experiment on... I think I may have over done the white highlight too much, what do you think? Obliterator
Looks pretty good to me. The white highlight could be a bit thinner, but I like the effect you got. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204797-nmm-attempt/#findComment-2442361 Share on other sites
Dark Sire
Agreed, thin out that white highlight abit, maybe even darken it a shade but its a very convincing NMM attempt ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204797-nmm-attempt/#findComment-2442396 Share on other sites
CosmicCreations
Thanks you two, I've just started painting a Forgeworld Ultramarines Dread for more practice.. http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo11/Cosmic_Castaway2157/NMM%20and%20Other%20attempts/Photo1115.jpg I think this is much better than the marine but something still doesn't look quite right, thoughts from anyone? Brother Nihm
It looks like your gradients/transitions have become a lot better in the 2nd go. I do think that your main issue is figuring out where to place the reflections. Maybe study some real life examples of light reflecting off of metallic surfaces? Anyhow, Keep it up! PS. you are already way better than I will ever be at NMM. <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204797-nmm-attempt/#findComment-2442441 Share on other sites
Lord_Azoth
looks nice, but NMM should look as metal, so must its qualities, as reflection, etc. IMHO you should apply more contrast, zones even more darker and zones more brighter.. http://coolminiornot.com/pics/pics14/img4bdddd5b99f01.jpg http://coolminiornot.com/pics/pics14/img4b01031863564.jpg These are some examples from alexi Z...As you can see, she makes the NMM metals more contrasted to simulate the real metal..Hope it helps you a bit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204797-nmm-attempt/#findComment-2442496 Share on other sites
CosmicCreations
Thank you Azoth, really helps :) it might also be my choice of colours so I'll keep experimenting. I'm still pleased with my attempt though considering its my first ever go. Obliterator
I'll just echo what Nihm said, 2nd attempt is a lot better then the marine, and yes, you're already a lot better at it then he is! <_< Well, a lot better then me too, so... :( I actually like the beaten effect you reached on the 'wings' of your dreadnought better then most NMM you see (the shiny yellowish gold from the elf minis above for example). It somehow looks more realistic to me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/204797-nmm-attempt/#findComment-2442644 Share on other sites
