just bought the Dark angel codex, and im think of starting Deathwing, two quick questions B) :

does taking the special banner for Belial's squad replace the slot for an equipment, i.e. twin lightning claws become a banner and one claw?

and also, for modelling purposes, could I simply do an elaborate backpack banner?

thanks for input in advance, lewiss111

No, banner does not replace equipment. It's an addition.

Yes, You could do an elaborate backpack banner... but with some glue and a cutting tool you can get a regular standard from a space marine command squad and fix it in the hand of a terminator.. looks more imposing than a backpack banner.

Cheers,

Since terminators are plastic, now, you can even just carve up a terminator arm and use green stuff to cover any holes.

It's no work of art, but this is my Deathwing standard bearer:

I just took a lightning claw arm, drilled a hole for the banner pole (which is a piece of a wire coat hanger), and used some green stuff to place any missing digits on the marine's hand. If someone with my meager modelling skills can do this, then I'm sure everyone else can do much better.

I disagree <_< it is a work of art. The totem pole idea is a very creditable and creative extension to the 'native american' themed DW. So don't be so modest next time -- that's an order!

I'm also very much liking your DA techie in the background :P. Funnily enough, I've just recently bought the exact same classic techie model from ebay... not as 'bulky' as the current model version... but equally as nice IMHO.

Cheers

No, a work of art would have another level or two of nice highlighting. I just paint well enough so that it looks decent, yet I won't curse a blue streak when someone inevitably drops something on my models and damages the paint job. Still, thanks for the kind words!
The cap on the banner is just a strip of green stuff. You can also try an aspergillum/censer from the DA sprue - just carefully create a socket for the banner pole with a pin vise drill. I tried it, but it was too gaudy for my tastes. It may work better for a Ravenwing standard. My best advice is to experiment.
