Sorry for being an ass, and sorry for illustrating this with paint, but:

I think his arms need some fleshing out!

Don't worry, your'e not being an ass. Fair point. I am happy with them tho I think, so I may flesh the upper arms out or add some more to the rims.

Doghouse: Thanks mate, really appreciated coming from you!

Looking good, I eagerly await completion.

Though I agree, the plasma pistol needs something to keep it from looking so long, try some cables or more cells on the bottom.

Hey guys, just letting you know that I have now started with the painting on this one.

Undercoated in GW black Primer, then a a coat of Vallejo persia blue

A salt mask was applied using water and a brush.

Then once dried, a coat of Vallejo Dark Blue. Once that was down, added a little GW skull white to the mix and did some highlights. Let this dry through (probably best left overnight, but I didn't wait). Gently rub off the salt with an old toothbrush and some COLD water.

Next step, is to highlight various areas with a brush and pick out some of the edges. I may add in some additional areas of a mid blue with a sponge, just to get a little more variation in there.

This has also taught me that I really do need to get some proper lighting set up.

Thanks for looking all.

Very seriously impressed with your work.

I just encountered the Dornian Heresy for the first time yesterday and its fired my imagination for 40K for the first time in a long time.

I have just embarked on building my first true scale marines and I'm thinking about going Dornian and doing Ultramarines (in MK16 armor).

But I'm watching this thread closely to try and getter a better idea of what the MK16 should look like from all angles, thanks :HQ:

I really like the armour concept, and its come out nicely in the sculpt. The salt weathering looks ace.

The only downside is the foot postioning, a very awkward pose to stand in. Rather lets the peice down a bit. Overall very good though. :HQ:

I love this, its awsome, and partly what inspired me to go ahead and make my own, though mine is admitadly tabletop sized. And ill definetly be useing your idea of the backpack, being that there are no images of it, yours might aswell be the design standard

Awesome, thanks guys!

So, it all started pretty well… I went in to ‘tidy up’ some of the more random elements of the process and I think I have lost something of the charm of the masking method in doing so and also, some of the realistic flatness of the colour. It’s started to look like it’s ‘painted’, that’s not what I was after at all.

I am seriously thinking about repainting and starting again. I know that there are a number of steps in this project to get it to look right, but I am just not happy with some aspects of this paint job. The main part being the abdominal sections, I may redo these and see what that leaves me with. But then again, I don’t want to waste any more time on this avenue if I am going to paint over it.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

I actually quite like the depth you've achieved with that blue. It does look a little 'painted' I suppose, but then the ceramite would have been painted in reality, so it fits quite well I think.

The scuffing and chipping all seems to be in the right places, so I say leave it as is. But it's your model and it most important that you're happy with it....

cheers

Thanks man, that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear

I may just carry on and add in the some of the other elements and see where it takes me. I will certainly redo the ab plates tho.

Thanks heaps guys, will deffinately crack on then with this version after some great feedback like that!

Gorgeous! Wish somebody dares to create a Dornian Heresy Rogal Dorn with this level of quality.

Is that a gauntlet I hear being thrown down...? hehehehe
