ShinyRhino
Just thought I'd share my admiration for this series with you Sons of Russ. I finished it last night waaaay past my normal bedtime. I wasn't a huge fan of Wolfblade. Too much talking, not enough fighting. I get the point of the story, it just wasn't interesting to me. I hate political intrigue and mystery thrillers. Sons of Fenris was great. I loved the interaction between the Dark Angels and the Space Wolves. Poor IG and PDF caught in the middle. Dialogue was a tad campy and exposition was a little heavy-handed, but overall a good story. Wolf's Honour blew my socks off. Seriously. I lost sleep wanting to finish it, it was such a page-turner. Such a great ending, as well. I really loved the way the Wulfen were handled, as well as the Lost Company. The storytelling session near the end was great. Anyone know if there are plans for additional Wolf novels, or is that the end? ShinyRhino
Not sure how this ended up in WIP, can a mod shove it over to the Wolves subforum? Hfran Morkai
Interesting...many people seem to dislike the last two books as Lee Lightner clearly take a different turn than William King. Truth be told I love them all, they're a part of the Legion's fluff and a fun read. I'm hoping we'll see more, considering Ragnar is technically still a Blood Claw by rights. Would be great to see him inducted into the Guard and perhaps even his rise to Wolf Lord, alas we've not heard much. I sort of noticed the tranistion between writing styles but considered it more Ragnar maturing then differences in authors. Additionally I feel the same way, Ragnar is still a Blood Claw, where are the Orc Nobs and Warboss he's supposed to slay to get into the Wolf Guard? Please make more books! Edit: additionally, (because of the novels but before the new DH/WH pdf fiasco) I was using a House Belasarius Navigator and retinue as an Allied Inquisitor back in 3rd/4th edition. hmk17
Well, Black Library has dragged Bill King back into writing for them, so maybe one day... Though, with the absolute beauty that is Wolf at the Door, Mike Lee would be a great writer to helm another Ragnar Blackmane novel(s). Requiem of the Wolf
I did like all 6...and I hear what you mean about staying up. I spent about two full days reading them. I do far prefer King's writing more though. Emperor's Scourge
When I read the first Omnibus I enjoyed it. After reading more Black Library novels from the likes of Abnett and, later, Dembski-Bowden I realized that they were a bit crap imo. To be honest, I felt the last three books were junk from the start. I forced myself to read them because I felt I owed it to my army. Love Haegr. the interaction with the 13th comp. but the german translation stinks ... the imperator in his "golden wheelchair"... -.- but i enjoyd the books in english. i read the first omnibus in about 30 hours, the second in 3 days. love the SW fuff. hope there will be more novels. Iron-Daemon Forge
I really enjoy the two Space Wolves ombuis, though like the orignaly posted, I did not like Wolf Blade that much..... to much talking & politic's. It Space Wolves, it all about fighting, eating good meat & drinking good ale. I like ever battle scene with in the book, really got me hook into my own Space Wolves army :P Like SoI got me further hook into my Iron Warriors force. Shame GW do not bring out any further novels on Ragnar, like when his Great Company Lord get killed & he led the hunt or the battle that cause him to be rise to Wolf Guard. Indeed. It really made me want to start up a Space Wolves force containg large numbers of Blood Claws packs, led by Ragnar and a Wolf Priest. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was that he was already in the Wolf Guard, but Barek got sliced up by a Bloodthirster, and Ragnar led the hunt for said Bloodthirster, killing him, which resulted in him becoming Wolf Lord by general agreement. TiguriusX
I did not like Wolf Blade that much..... to much talking & politic's. It Space Wolves, it all about fighting, eating good meat & drinking good ale. That was the point of putting Ragnar in the wolf guard. To enlighten the "savage barbarian" to the dangers and necessities of politics for a leader You can despise politics and scheming all you want but you better understand it or you will fall victim to it. I forget which book it is but Ragnar recognizes he thinks differently than the rest of his pack. He has the mind of a leader whereas Sven just cares about his next drink and his next brawl. That quality was recognized by SW leadership and he was being groomed even as he was punished for losing the spear of russ. Besides...doesn't Haeger make up for all of that? One of my favorite SWs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205032-space-wolf-the-second-omnibus/#findComment-2450132 Share on other sites
Vash113
Haegre is easily one of my favorite Space Wolf Characters, right up there with Ranulf and Ragnar. Anyway as I understand it Ragnar is inducted into the Wolf Guard upon his return to the Thunderwolf Company, as he skips right over Blood Claw. If he was brought back as a Blood Claw what would stop him advancing to Grey Hunter normally? After all he went toe to toe with Thousand Sons Sorcerers, a Callidus Assassin, beat a Dark Angel Captain in hand to hand combat, wounded Magnus the Red, survived a suicide mission onto a daemon shadow world to recover the Spear of Russ, met and fought alongside the mythical 13th Company and wields a relic Frost Blade... if that don't cut someone out for the Wolf Guard I don't know what would. It was then as a Wolf Guard that he took revenge for Berek's slaying and became the new Wolf Lord. In any case I enjoyed Space Wolf, Wolfblade and Wolf's Honour and I did not like Blood Claw or Sons of Fenris very much, they just didn't come together very well for me. My favorite though is Grey Hunter, I've re-read that book many times. Lets not forget that we do have Prospero Burns coming up and a Space Marine Battles book on the 1st Siege of the Fang by the Thousand Sons and who knows what else may be upcoming for the Sons of Russ. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205032-space-wolf-the-second-omnibus/#findComment-2450554 Share on other sites
