A Sad Day for LW's...

I was really excited to put my new lone wolf into action for the first time today. I have him geared in TDA with TH/SS and he was ready to go monster hunting. I played against my friends nurgle demons army and he was using the really big fat one(cant recall the name of it). We squared off in an objective mission with 2k points each. Within just the first 2 turns his tub of lard had managed to wipe out nearly a dozen of my grey hunters with his big blast weapon and with the start of turn 3 my lone wolf was into position. A little grin went across my face because i knew i would be able to hold him in close combat for a few turns and keep him from blowing my grey hunters to smithereens, boy was i wrong. He landed 2 wounds on my LW so i need 2 invuln saves and to my surprise i get snake eyes on the role. He died without even so much as one swing, a sad day indeed.

i run 2 lonewolfs (tda,ss,chainfist and tda,ss,wolfclaw+ each 1 wolf) in 1 gae the rip apart 900 points of BA and only lose 1 wolf.

Yesterday they couldnd get an necronlord with destruktorbody out of game. they died in 3 rounds

so the are hard but its still gambling

next time he will rock your game :D

I suppose one of my Lone Wolves taking a Guard army to the face and emerging alive would make up for this?

2 Hydras, Leman Russ Plasma Variant (5 templates), 3 Chimeras plus Guardsmen inside (2 Melta squads in range) and a Psyker Battle Squad's Blast attack all added up to a dead pet and a solitary wound on my LW during a single round of shooting. He only managed to kill a Banewolf, a Chimera and the Psyker squad before he went down but I managed a draw because of it. ;)

TDA/SS/Chainfist and a pet wolf is the set up although I'm seriously considering giving him another pet.

Personally I make it a personal goal in games to destroy my opponents newest addition or newest favorite unit, even if it is not the best target to hit. The blow to moral is usually worth it :HQ:

I like doing this too. Taking out their newest, shiniest toy is so gratifying! Especially when it's done with a LW.

Isn't it a waste to put TDA armor plus a SS?

Also, how'd your GH get blown to smithereens? Were they foot slogging?

Sounds like even when your LW got into CC it was just bad luck, get 'em next time!

Edit: Just thought about it and remembered the 2+ save upgrade. Silly me :)

It could be worse- a friend of mine saw his warhound go down from full in a single round, in close combat, to three fire dragons and an avatar.

If it hadnt been the first time hed ever been able to use the thing, it would have been hilarious- I was mostly just happy it didnt take out any of my Grey Hunters with a nuclear blast.

Those who use chainfist and storm shield on a Lone Wolf, how do you model the weapon combination?

There aren't any right-handed chainfists, or right-handed storm shields.

Convert the Storm Shield to a Right handed hold...its pretty easy honestly.

It was the big fat nurgle thing? Why not use a rune priest with JOTWW next time. If he rolls a 3+ hes gone mate... Never coming back. Big fat flubby monster would be eating 'Father NUrgle's' sick.

Yeah...

Son.

I also tried this and he passed, the dice gods were not with me on this day. I did eventually whittle him down with my LF's and the game ended in a draw with both of us only having 1 troop unit left contesting on an objective.

Im still pretty new and have only been able to buy 1 of my 3 packs of GH's a rhino

Take a modeling knife, take the chainblade off the chainfist and put it on a right handed powerfist.

No. With the amount of fire he'll draw especially low AP weapons having the 3+ invul will keep him going that bit longer than a 5+ would. It also means that he can more reliably stand up to MCs and Power Weapon carriers in combat.
