NovaScotius
Well brothers, it appears I’m living up to the title of Blood Claw! I’ve gone and done something rather rash... I’ve been in the hobby for many years, and in the time I’ve never managed to complete an army to the 1500pts mark! I either lose interest in the army, drift away from the hobby, or in the case of my Deathwing (painted up to 1115pts), they were crushed in a house move. I was talking with my cousin recently, who is on the verge of finishing painting his 1500pts Salamanders, and he was gently ribbing me about him nearly completing an army, despite being in the hobby for a substantially shorter period. Well, I responded with a bit of macho trash talk saying I could paint up a 1500pts army this summer if I really wanted to! Anyway, he called me on it. Refusing to renege on my claim, we’ve made a bet – I have to paint a completed Space Wolf army by October 31st (Halloween), or be subject to a forfeit! And what is this terrible forfeit, you ask? Well... it’s a Mars Bar... but it’s my pride too! :D So, starting as I mean to go on, I’ve come up with a test scheme for the army... http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y294/Immortal_King/GreyHunterFront.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y294/Immortal_King/GreyHunterBack.jpg The company is going to be Grimnar’s after he ascended to Great Wolf, and pack markings will be put on the model at a later date. Obviously, the base is not done yet – I’m not sure what colour to do it at the moment, so will return to it later! I’ve decided to turn this bet into a bit of a project, and will be creating a log to document the progress of the army. Having never actually finished an army, let alone done a project log, I might come back here for some help from time to time! The list I’ thinking of building is here... 1500pts List So brothers, is there any advice you can offer a young Blood Claw on his first trial in The Fang? What do you do to get yourself motivated to build and paint? And is there anything I should know about making a painting log before I start? Wish me luck! P.S. - I know I need to learn how to take better pictures, it was my first time using that camera! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205067-the-folly-of-a-blood-claw/ Share on other sites
Warhorse47
It looks good with crisp detailing. Suggestion, paint one pack at a time, it seems to go easier for me that way anyway. Requiem of the Wolf
Making oaths of Great deeds is part of being a Space Wolf,so you are doing quite well there...And there is no folly to be had from that. How you fulfill those Oaths is the rest of being a Space Wolf,so if you hold your head high, and do all in your power to fulfill that oath, then you will have upheld the honor of Russ and the Wolves. All that being said, the paint job looks great, far better then I could manage. Lysimachus
Painting is very good, nice and clean. One suggestion would be to get some of the badab black wash (or maybe the devlan mud if you want a more 'dirty' feel to them). It'd be a very simple and quick way to add more definition to your scheme. Bulweih
Welcome brother, nice paintjob, but as stated you might want to try some Badab Black to add depth to the model. I always paint two or three models at once, till I complete a pack and so on. It helps not to put too much pressure on me. Also, if you feel you're drifting away or loose interest, watch 13th warrior, it comes back after that one I tell you ;) . NovaScotius
Thanks for the replies brothers! As for Badab Black... I'm a bit scared of obscuring details or the wash pooling on the model. Roughly, what ratio of water/wash should I be using for one to add definition, but not change the colour of the mini too much? Thanks! MaleOpener
Rash? Nah. You placed your bet like a real wolf brother! ( though I'm a wolf sister ;) ) I'd suggest a pack at a time, and you usually can get 2 packs a month done. Far your ink/wash question, I've got a suggestion I always use. Get a piece of ceramic title ( cheap pieces at the hardware store ) or maybe snag a plate from the kitchen. What you want to do is get a little ink/wash on the tip of your brush, then place it on the title/plate. Then dip your brush in clean water, and mix the water into the ink/wash on the title/plate. Keep doing this until the ink/wash seems almost clear. Take your brush ( keep one aside for using with inks/washes ), dab it into the ink/wash mix, and slowly work it into a small spot at a time. Very little ink/wash should be on your brush, as this will prevent the 'pooling'. When done, let the model dry completely. After its dry, go and touch up the areas with maybe a highlight or touch up around the plates to clean up the lines ... Ink/washes can be a pain, and I suggest you do this on a "practice" model first so you don't mess up any finished ones. Good job on the 'single' mini so far, and just pace yourself. I'm sure you'll hit 1500 before Oct 31st ... Next year, right? Just kidding. ... I just left a comment, on your list's thread, about your placement of the CML TDAs. It'll help, trust me. Annatar Giftbringer
Looking good so far! What colour(s) have you used for the grey armour, if I might ask? Looking good so far! What colour(s) have you used for the grey armour, if I might ask? The armour is very, very simple... Prime model in GW Chaos Black spray Very watery wash of Chaos Black paint all over the model to cover up all the bits left exposed by the primer Adaptus Battlegrey foundation paint all over the armour Drybrush of Codex Grey Done! ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205067-the-folly-of-a-blood-claw/#findComment-2448292 Share on other sites
S. Bloodhowl
You are truly a Space Wolf to have made such an oath, I (drunkenly) salute you! I like the model though i think the armour needs a bit of shading. If I were you i would give it a light wash of Asurmen Blue followed light wash of Devlan Mud. That would give it that blueish tint Space Wolf armour needs but then tone it down a bid to be more dirty. But thats just me, keep up the faith in Russ brother!!!
