Daedalus Templarius
So, DH codex is boned, and I am apparently not supposed to take allies anymore with my BA. I don't know if I will actually follow this change, but I guess I should think about an analogue to popping out GKT from a Land Raider or Stormraven. While nothing really has S6 power weapons, I imagine a big squad of death company led by LeMartes instead of a GKGM could likely wreak some havoc if several of them had power weapons and maybe a couple THs. Or maybe Mephy and a few honor guard/sang guard/vanguard vets? Any ideas?
SamaNagol
The PDF doesn't override the book.
Dark Legionnare
I have a Death Company squad of 6 guys, 2 with power swords, lead by a Reclusiarch in almost all of the games I field them. My experience so far is that the re-rolls to hit and wound usually mean that the DC will go through any unit they touch in CC like a hot knife through butter. They're always prime targets for your opponent though, and they're almost always guaranteed a "Massacre!" result in CC, meaning they'll be left in the open to get shot a hell of a lot on your opponents turn. DC can be real tide-turners, and for relatively cheap points. My Reclusiarch and my DC go for 295 together and they usually do at least 500-700 points of damage to my opponents, bare minimum. Only 7 models tearing through 3 Gray Hunter Squads is a thing of beauty. I suggest that you stay small if you choose DC, 5-8 guys. Throw in a Reclusiarch and you've got a damn good, relatively cheap(ish), unit to decimate your opponent. Or if they get bad rolls, attract a hell of a lot of fire. On a final note, I thought that the Allies section going kaput was a mistake and that you still can take GKT allies.
Daedalus Templarius
Its doesn't seem like a mistake, unfortunately, at least to me. However, that could change pending on word from GW. The section has been removed(covered with an image for the induction rules, lol) from the various other language PDFs as well, so it looks like this was very much intentional. I'm sure more story will develop in the next few weeks on this, as hopefully GW will make an actual FAQ or statement of some sort. Thankfully, the DC models looks awesome (I have 10), but I will probably have my GKGM model lead them and just count him as a reclusiarch. I don't know if there is much else that's as dead-killy as a DC squad in the BA book, especially with some power weapons thrown on. Built in Furious charge, fleet, etc makes them pretty frightening. Yes, lets please not make this another thread about allies being removed though. I am actually looking for alternatives to GKT, although honestly, my gaming group wouldn't disallow me from bringing them most likely. I'm not the guard player exploiting with mystics + manticores/medusas.
daboarder
I'll tell you what whiteinferno, I'll drop my allies when you give my GK's 3+ SS, limited psychic hoods and an heavy 4, redning assualt cannon. As for alternatives, I'd got with a terminator assualt sqaud with 1 TH/SS and 4 TLC's with a SP in termie armour riding along for fun.

Oh hell, I already have been using that stuff for ages now. It may be hard convincing my guard player not to bring mystics, while I still bring GKT though B) Although, my group never deep strikes anything, so it would be mostly useless. daboarder
see I dont really rate GKT that much above anything we cant already do on the charge anyway.
Haunter!
From GW customer service: Gary! The new PDF is not meant to replace the hard copy but meant to provide a codex for those who cannot purchase one now. Secondly the allies rules in the new PDF were ACCIDENTALY left out of the American version! As far as the blog goes I will do my best to get that sorted out for you guys! Thanks! Morticon
Haunter, That accidental mistake has also since been replicated across the other language sites (French and German). Additionally, the induction/allies page was removed and the references to inductable IG/SM units was covered over by new artwork that wasn't there before. That seems like an odd thing to do if its a mistake. However, I guess clarity will come at some stage. EDIT: And staying on topic - how about our regular awesome termies ? daboarder
some more food for the fire, they removed the page detailing shrouding, true grit and the like from the GK PDF. Do we honestly think that this is really a rules update? I mean come on guys we have brains lets use em, would you really enforce THAT on a GK player? sorry mort I forgot what thread this was, please consider the above a reply to your coment only even if it is a little OT. Brother_Dan'l
It really depends on why you used GKTs in the first place doesn't it? If it was to have Terminators with S6 power weapons then the easiest way to get close would be to have a TDA Sanguinary Priest and a TDA Chaplain in the squad. That way you get FC for the +1S bonus and you'll get Fearless and re-rolls to hit. Put them in a Crusader and away you go. I could say that since I paid for the Codex they can stick their head in a pig's stinky lightless orifice if they think I'm going to use an incomplete PDF instead. But that would be crude and off topic. :D
Daedalus Templarius
I already am running a squad of 3LC 2TH/SS termies in another vehicle most times, but I had thought of just including another of those. Seems a bit plain though, that's why I was considering a DC squad or something. Also, TDA?
SamaNagol
TDA = Tactical Dreadnought Armour aka Terminator Armour
Morticon
TDA = tactical dreadnought armour (termy armour). If yo're already running those, then try something new like DC!
SamaNagol
10 DC is 200pts same as a unit of Terminators.... so no reason why you can't use them as super scary shock troops?
