Grey Knight Dreadnought

I'm doing my best to convert a plastic ven dread kit into a grey knight dreadnought. I've already got some modifications done for it but I'm stumped as to how to give the dreadnought the same feel as a gkt so that it doesn't stick out from the rest of the army. Any suggestions?

Put an open book on him somewhere, of course alot will come through in the paint if you use like holy script, of course purity seals, maybe convert him to have the powerfist that looks like a hand and a daemon being crushed in it or convert a NFW looking weapon for him, maybe give him holy censors swinging from him, use saint celestines iron halo on him etc.

So does the Acolyte in Coteaz's retinue. I just cut toe book off the staff, filed down the back of it and attached it to the Dreadnought's close combat arm.

I found a spare Acolyte some time ago, which i then used to to the same thing, but attached it to the front hatch of my LRC

Those are some useful ideas, I need to figure out where i'm going to get the book from though. Also an idea occurred to me about trying to get some of the gold script onto the armor of the dreadnought. Does anyone have a feasible way to do that?

Off the top of my head the chaos terminator lord has one in his sprue, so do the empire wizards and flagellants. Use bits barn they've got good bits

When I converted my Black Reach Dread into a GK Dread I used a sword from fantasy and made a book out of green stuff. The book was actually way easier than I expected, so even if you don't have any experience with GS you could probably still make it work. The easiest way is to just form a rough square with a "hill" in the middle (the pages) as well as a thin completely flat square (the cover). If putting a sword on, shave the back flat and glue that on first, then stick the flat square on over it. Trim the flat squares edges to make it truly square with a wet hobby knife once it is on the model, this makes it easier because you don't have to move it after you've gotten it looking good. The pages will have to be cut square before you stick it on or else you'll cut you cover, but since it is thicker you will have an easier time moving it. Stick your now square pages on the model and then put your knife in the middle of the "hill" and cut half-way down. Turn the knife both directions rolling out the inside of the pages. If your book is larger you can now use the knife to indent the edges to make individual pages. If it is smaller you won't have to do this - it will still look really good once painted. If I had a camera I'd post a pic but alas, my digital camera gave up the ghost a while back and I haven't replaced it. Hope this helps!

This book was made with three pieces of card, two square and one rectangle a bit bigger than both squares side by side. Later GS was used to create flowing lines, same with this one:

besides that, I use a lot of shields on my vehicles and dreads. Again empire or other plain shields will do fine. Purity seals and parchment is always nice but for the rest the vendread is pretty GK-ish already, especially the inlaid scriptures.

Finally for inspiration:

Wow that's some awesome stuff. I'm definitely looking into placing a bits order now/begging a few WH fantasy swords off of my friends.

I don't particularly like the inlaid text that is already on the model, do you guys think it would be plausible to make a green stuff press mold of a terminator shoulder, flatten it out, and then use it to add inlay to the model?

I also used some old school shields (from the last gen of grave guard) on my dread. They worked great to dress up his left breast and the front of his right leg. Not sure if they still sell these with anything, but they are not on the bits/shields page. The knightly order shields would look pretty good though.
Personally I used bits from two different swords, both from the empire militia box. My suggestion is to use whatever sword blade you can find and make a handle that suits the size of the book. The scale of the blade doesn't matter as much since you can always just glue a piece on either side of the book (like those arrows that look like they are going through your head). Since my swords both had hands attached I had to make a handle out of a shaved down spear shaft, so whatever you end up using don't be afraid to modify it as needed with whatever you hav lying around.
