Hotspur
So, since I haven't quite figured out the picture uploading process, and since I don't really have any of it put together, I'm going to throw my newest project out there... on paper anyway. I piecing together an "Exterminator" predator variant. I've hacked up some of the Pred pieces an have put together a turret that has, you guessed it, a twin-linked autocannon. I used the turret setup from the annihilator, so the autocannons have the faring over them like the lascannons do. The sides are heavy bolter sponsons. I'm trying to figure out a way that I can get a HB onto the front of the Pred's chassis; I still have a HB that mounts on the front of a Leman Russ in my bitz box. I think I just need some plasticard to build the hardpoint. The turret is looking pretty good, the twinlinked auto cannon looks really intimidating. I realize this probably won't ever get seriously used except in friendlies, but I guess that's OK. It'll be fun to take it up against some of my 'nid and ork playing friends. I'd love to hear some other pred variants, or any other kind of vehicle variants for that matter, that you all have come up with. Let me know what you guys think. When I've got some extra time, and once I figure out the picture thing, I'll get some pictures uploaded. Godhead
I want an executioner type varient pred. PC turret, and PC sponsons. :) I'd totally field one or 3 of those. IMO the pred (or the rhino chassis) is pretty much the face of SM armor. I'm not quite sure why a LR can have all the ridiculous amounts of gun load outs, but our preds can't? Karack Blackstone
Lumbering Behemoth special rule. The Hull on a Leman Russ has it, the Rhino is mostly a transport hull with a tank fitted around and into it. Stryker versus Abrams, basically. Godhead
Meh I didn't ask for a LR tank. I just said I'd like plasma cannon options for the sponsons and the turret. IE execution like.. not an executioner. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205246-homegrown-predator-variant/#findComment-2448203 Share on other sites
Karack Blackstone
We lost the LRE, but gained TWC. Some would say it was a fair trade. I'm still not certain, but to stay on topic the point seems lost on what I was saying. As far as the OP's build goes, hope it works out, anyone out there planning on letting you use it? As far as having an Executioner cannon, that I can go with. I'm all for vehicles with PC's on them. I was trying to answer the hull difference in my above post, is all. Totally different hulls internally, but somewhat close in size. Hymirl
One thing I've seen done is converting old LR Exterminators to become predators. Normally needing the front weapon removed and covered over, the lower armour is because the Wolves have lightened the tank for extra speed so it can keep up with rhino based vehicles. Seems like a good way to use old models with the current rules. morehardcore
yeah what ppl dont get about marines is that they are "supposed" to be a fast army now a giant battle line of tanks is great and all but if its all heavy tanks its not fast (land raider is an exception but apparently that is dropped by thunderhawks). and speed really counts if you only have a hundred guys (fluff wise) as after all does an orc warboss really care if he loses a few thousand orcs to kill a hundered marines by trapping them in. although the table top ignores this marines never strike at front lines if they can they quickly attack weak points and deliver crushing blow before the enemy can bring his slow tanks and infantry to bear. if you recall 4th edition strategy ratings marines had a high one because they could attack wherever they wanted while the Imperal Guard had a low one because they moved so slowly that the enemy could decide where to fight.
