well it is against the rules.

 

Saying it is against the rules, is actually a bit of an overstatement. If you look at the rules for bases it says quite clearly that players often model figures on impressive bases, and the only requirement is to ask your opponent before the game to see if he/she cares. I have never met anyone that cared that I use 40mm bases for my heroes, but if I did then I would either substitute in some proxy models on 25 mm bases, or I would just pass on playing that opponent and find someone a little more reasonable.
