Much thanks to cpt_nuss for the inspiration and devlan mud.

Colors:

Armor

Black primer

Adeptus Battlegrey (airbrushed)

Shadow Grey (airbrushed)

Codex Grey (airbrushed)

Devlan Mud (wash)

Fortress Grey (highlights)

Details were added after airbrushing basecoats:

Icons/Litany Paper (white for Revilers)

Deneb Stone

Skull White (highlights)

Eyes (standard fare)

Scab Red

Blood Red

Blazing Orange

Skull White

Company Markings/Seals

Scab Red

Blood Red

Blazing Orange (highlights)

So I did this test marine in about 10 minutes, all the highlighting is pretty rough and I didn't do any corrections. Probably decent enough for TT quality as is. Will definitely probably thin out the Devlan mud a bit next time, used straight from the pot on this mini and it felt a bit thick. Oh and I forgot to do anything to the purity seal. Oops.

Yea, minus the cleaning out the airbrush and mixing paint about that. I'm actually kind of excited that I might be able to finish and army with that sort of speed.

Oh well, off to go buy some more grey paint pots.

Haven't had much time because of work but have started on my first tac squad. Everything is almost finished with basecoats, including the razorback. Tried for a minor camo theme to give the armor a bit of differentiation from the marines. Also skipped the shadow grey so the vehicles should turn out a bit of a different tone. I also learned that Frogtape, whilst wonderful on the factory cut edge, does not work so well as a mask when cut. Lesson learned, but I guess I will try to straighten up the edges on the camo pattern with a piece of card and a detail brush. Hopefully I don't have to SG the entire model.

Then here's another tank... a conversion project. One of the two mk 1 predator kits I own was pretty badly damaged in an accident involving winter boots and gravity, so I decided to rescue the turret and see if I could recreate the classic look. Well, after a bit of thought I decided that the turret looked really dumb without some sort of collar raising it off of the hull, so I tried to marry the bottom of the new mk 4 turret to it. Then added some new bits, like a new hatch, a searchlight and sensor array. Haven't quite finished as much filler and greenstuff work as I probably will, but I don't know if I like it enough to continue with the project or just buy a new turret sprue and try again some day in the future when I have some more inspiration.

Also, just in case it saves someone else, I pre-thinned some jars of my 3 primary paint colors with water for my airbrush. The regular paints turned out fine but the foundation paint reacted badly and I'm not sure why. It separated poorly and part of it solidified on the bottom of the jar. Wasn't pretty so I guess I'll just have to mix at spray time in the future.

So this week has been nothing but a string of defeats. That I was able to salvage the paint job on my Razorback is the only highlight. My custom decals have yet to work because the Testor decal setting spray has ruined every sheet I've tried. Additionally, I got in a Baal Predator TLAC kit and after playing around with it for about an hour and a half trying to marry it to the Razorback Turret (using both the HB and LC as a base) I gave up. So I decided to finally unwrap my old metal/plastic LRC which I had been saving for a couple of years in order to pillage the TLAC turret... only to find that it didn't come with one.

But at least I finalized the colors and effects I'm going to go for on my tanks. Here are two (bad) pictures. Still missing some stippling for mud effects and the TLAC + decals.

Tac squad 1 almost done. Still to do: highlights for grey parts, basing and decals (shiver).

Oh, also changed eye color to blue because I figured I might want to make full red helmets or face masks for vets/hq/whatever and the red eyes wouldn't stand out well.

Anyway, today will be the big day. I've finally gotten custom water slide transfers to work, but they've been extremely thick since I have to print on white. I'm going to go grab some Microsol from the hobby store later and hopefully will be able to make the decals look decent. If not, I guess I'll be looking for another chapter. I've wasted way too many painting hours on decals and have become extremely frustrated. Since I'm also trying to get an army ready to field, freehanding the chapter symbol is not going to be an option for me. I'd hate to step away from the Revilers at this stage but I just need to make some headway.

Figures look good but sucks about the decals that is one reason I went away from using them completely

So yea, hmm. Really the worst combination of colors possible for this decal issue. The white backed decals are huge. They stick out like a sore thumb. I painted over the edges but painting a neutral color over white trying to mimic 3 layers of darker colors over a black undercoat is damn near impossible. I put a light wash on it to try and get it to blend better, but yea. Neutral armor tone + white decal = out of options? I don't know what else I can do for this.

You can't see it as well in the photo, but there's a 1/4-1/2 mm raised edge. And this is with decal solvent, it was even worse before. Not to mention the fact that the clear coating and ink started to wear while I was repositioning it.

/sigh.
