Vampyrer0me0
My goal is to build what can reasonably represent a great company. Specifically Engir Krakendoom's company. All these numbers are based on what I think looks good and roughly equals what I think would be a force that could be deployed by the Fang to react to a threat. So this is the Great Company plus attachments from the Great Wolf. 20 Wolf Guard: This was the number in the old codex and it feels like a good size for the Huskarl's of the company. 8 would be terminators 9 in power armour as leaders to the grey hunters and blood claws 2 would be on bikes to lead the swiftclaws, and one attached to the scouts.(when I model him I may just use a scout completely) 62 grey hunters: 6 packs of 9 and 1 pack of 8 39 blood claws: 1 pack of 9 1 pack of 8 and 2 packs of 9 bikers with attached attack bikes 20 Long Fangs: 4 packs of 5 10 Scouts 1 Wolf Lord 1 Wolfguard Battle Leader 1 Wolf Priest 1 Rune Priest 1 Iron Priest and 5 Servitors 3 Dreadnaughts: 1 Venerable 7 Rhinos 5 Razorbacks 2 Drop pods 3 Land Raiders: 1 Redeemer 1 Regular 1 Terminus 3 Predators: 2 Destructor 1 Annihlator I have about 1/3 of this done so far. Going to be working on finishing it before the new year. Changing strategy I had been just building. Now I am going to build and paint, not moving on to the new unit until the old one is built and painted. The Terminus is going to be a MKI that is getting some conversion love. Just interested if you guys think this looks about the right size for a great company or if there is anything you all think i should add. Karack Blackstone
Looks close to accurate, seems like it may be a little more than necessary but it would be close if you upped the number of BC's at the expense of GH's. MaleOpener
His great company deploys swiftclaw packs as outriders, though you don't have any I don't think that's a problem. I don't believe the two drop pods fit, as Krakendoom's company prefers armored transports I'm taking it as a force which zips arounds in rhinos/razorbacks/land raiders. I'm not a fan of razorbacks, prefering not to take my foot of the gas until I get to where I'm going, but they fit with your idea. Love to see some pics! Legatus
Looks suitable over all, and an adequate representation. Personally I would have perhaps tweaked a few figures here and there, but this would work as wlel. 20 Wolf Guard: This was the number in the old codex and it feels like a good size for the Huskarl's of the company. 20 was the possible maximum of Wolf Guard a force could deploy. Even in the 2nd Edition Codex, where Grey Hunter squads and Blood Claw squads were bought strictly in full 10 man units (just like regular Marine squads at that time), Wolf Guard was a variable 5-20 choice. So statistically that would mean the average is probably 12-13 Wolf Guard per Great Company. If you want your Great Company to have the full 20 Wolf Guard, that suggests that they have an exceptionally high number of Veterans. There is no real reason why Engir Krakendooms Great Company couldn't be that exceptional veteran heavy Great Company, but on the other hand it is also not implied that it is. Just be aware that you may be taking a bit of a liberty here. 39 blood claws: 1 pack of 9 1 pack of 8 and 2 packs of 9 bikers with attached attack bikes Engir Krakendoom's Great Company is only noted for two things in particular, one of them being that they use "many Swiftclaws". 20 or so bikes are certainly more than you would expect in an average Codex Battle Company, but perhaps not "many" enough for a ~150 men Space Wolves Great Company. Perhaps exchange one more squad of Blood Claws for one additional squad of Swiftclaws? 20 Long Fangs: 4 packs of 5 That feels a bit much for me, for a Great Company that is said to favour mechanised forces and Bikes. I cannot pin that down to any particular piece of background though. Certainly a regular Codex Battle Company has 20 Devastators, but for Space Wolves that is not two but four squads of venerated elder Space Wolves with heavy weapons. 20 is ok, though. 10 Scouts That's ok I guess. Though I would see 10 as the "average" for a Space Wolves Great Company, and one that is specifically noted to use Swiftclaws for reconnaisance and being otherwise very mobile might perhaps have "less than average" Scouts. Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't even considered the fact of the bikes being the scouts. I can fix two things here take 5 long fangs and 5 scouts and turn them into another Swiftclaw back which would give me 49 bloodclaws. I had always thought that the 20 wolfguard would be the average since it was the max you could get with one force org, and a company would be 2-3 force org charts. Your point makes a lot of sense though. Increasing the number of bloodclaws to add more bikes makes the ratio of vets to rookies look nicer. 20 Wolfguard 62 Grey hunters and 49 bloodclaws. @maleopener the droppods are strictly tactical they are slightly out of place in the company, but i figure even a mounted company may need some pin point back up occasionally. It not entirely against the idea since the fluff says that Engir has a strong fleet element. Otherwise, there would be only 11 great companies (not including the 13th!). Btw, i think Vampyrer0me0 forgot to include the most important thing in his great company... Where's the ale?
