Badaboom
After the heretic works made for the Dornian Heresy, I felt that my beloved chapter deserved some proper homage. Odsox
Gorgeous colours, lines and detail, but I have to say something about the perspective, which is ironic seeing as it's one of my own major shortcomings. Those two Space Lemons (the ones behind the fellow with the awesome thunder hammer) look MASSIVE, like, dreadnought-size, simply because they've been drawn at nearly the same size as the chap who's obviously supposed to be in front. Â Other than that, it's a beautiful piece. Incredible attention to detail. I particularly love that hammer, and the heavy bolter. Lots o' dakka! Â Great work! Â Od. Yogi
Thats is pretty epic. Â You got deviant art a/c? Â Also I gotta learn how to shop without outlines the results are so much more impressive. Badaboom
Hi guys, thanks for the replies! @Dragunov: it´s 100% photoshop, though the process has been pretty much as if it was a traditional painting.  @Odsox: Mmmhhh...Could be. The two other marines are meant to be very close, but perhaps I exaggerated too much the sense of atmosphere; that´s the kind of things that happen when you´re working too much and too close on the same picture.  @Yogi: no devianart, but you can find me on Cghub if you want. WarInHeaven
very impressive! there are some irregularities in the proportions, but not enough to ruin the painting  how long did it take you to make? Badaboom
How long? I really don´t know, but it feels like ages (I´ve been doing it by night, after my real job and other freelance stuff). Where do you see those irregularities in the proportions? There still time to fix them. Brother 'Ussell
Very well done! overall nothing but good stuff! The only thing I see a bit off proportion wise might be the hammer head. It's tapering seem to imply it's at more of a backward angle then it's being held at, it's very slight and could argueably be explained away by saying the hammer has a taper to it already. Â I think the lightning effect around it could use a touch of white hot spots but you also might run the risk of drawing the eye to it a bit more than what you want to. Â I also do all my artwork in my spare time, which I'm getting less and less of, but I use it as a way to relax not as a second job or anything. I understand how it feels like forever to get something done. Yogi
Checked you out on CGhub very nice. Dornian heresy banner with Dorn being my favourite.  Not to be a pain but since you asked for crit  the Night Lord in the foreground looks off to me.  His arm looks very short (the powerfist arm). Personally I think his arm should be longer and perhaps slightly lower. Also his gun looks weird but I don't think that matters.  The imperial fist in the background between the hammer man and the night lord with the axe. His chest armor on the left is sloped funny where it joins his arm.  Finally the wounded nightlord on the ground. His back pack looks off to me. It basically looks disconnected and at a different angle to the fallen nighlords chest.  All In my opinion. Pulse
Yogi i think its pretty obvious that the Night Lord at the front has his right arm (power fist) pulled back so his elbow is past his back. Brother Nihm
What blasphemy is this? Surely no son of Kurze would let himself be bested by a stripling fist! Â Love the smoking hole, the shoulderpad designs (all of them), the Thunderhawks streaking past and the HB marine. Â The proportions of the axe seems off though. Badaboom
@Yogi: thanks for the crits, I´ll see if I have time to change some of the things you mentioned, specially the IF chest armor.  @Brother Nihm: I chose to use Night Lords mainly because of they color scheme (so cool, looks great against the IF bright yellow), and because they´re one of the less chaotic of the Chaos legions, nothing personal there... *coff*you coward traitor scum*coff*... :jaw: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205372-artwork-imperial-fists/#findComment-2450375 Share on other sites
Yogi
@ badaboom no worries hope I wasn't too annoying. Â @Pulse I'm curious how you justify this. His shoulder pad shows the direction of his upper arm. It implies straight down not pulled back. Well at least to me. Badaboom
@Yogi: don´t worry, I need some fresh look after these intense nights of working, and just "ooooh" and "aaaah" are not going to help me :jaw: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205372-artwork-imperial-fists/#findComment-2450394 Share on other sites
AlexCrute
Sorry dude. Ooh and Aaah is all I got. Â OK not really. Now that everyone else has pointed them out I can see the proportion queries. The nightlord's claw arm and the vet behind the captain being the most obvious. Â I feel the background would benefit from the typical orangey world-in-flames look that so many codex cover artworks have, if you can get it to be distinct from the yellow power armour. Rather than grey. Â If you can address the proportion queries and the tone of the background then this could pass for codex cover art. Top notch. Yogi
Hmm stick a fork in it I think its done. Tasty. Â The proportions are better and the lighting has made a huge affect at least to me. (wish I thought of that, that was a great tip.) Â You did everything, back pack check, claw check, resize the guy in the background check, lighting check. Give the claw guy a new belt buckle.. wait, I think its a littel big but still nice. (I had to flick between the pics to notice them all.) Â Ah, so be proud. Â *salutes* Â The power claw guy still irks me for some reason but I don't know what it is and it may just be me. Â Also IMO if you really want criticism you have to explicitly ask for it. Because I saw all my suggestions during my first post, but didn't say anything cause I wasn't sure if you wanted backslap (nothing wrong with those) posts or if you were one of those guys who gets defensive. Which your not obviously. Â Good work. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205372-artwork-imperial-fists/#findComment-2450576 Share on other sites
