onipunk
I had the idea of placing a unique character into each of my tactical squads, similar to the Iron Snakes and their apothecaries in each squad. I have a few ideas but can't choose between them, so I was hoping you guys could help me out. Idea One: Apothecaries. Not very original but I suppose it wouldn't be too bad. Idea Two: Tech specialist. Uses specialised equipment with a cool backpack etc. Idea Three: A warrior-adept. Psykers in training who use normal boltguns and wear the hooded tabards of the Chapter's psyker contingent. Personally I'm leaning towards the warrior-adepts, but I'd love to hear your thoughts or your own ideas if you have any. Arnil
So like your modeling you sergeants as a specialist? Cool! You could model them as sternguard but they wouldn't stick out much I think....I like the adept thing. KhorneHunter57x
Of those three, I would go for the tech-specialist (possibly equipped with experimental PA) but I think it would be cool to have a Chaplain-adept in the squad, with a skull helm and a tabard and garbed in the black armor of the Reclusiam (possibly as the Sgt, with a Crozius/PW). Just my thoughts. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205429-modelling-unique-tactical-squads/#findComment-2450487 Share on other sites
Brother Rathul
Hmmmmm, Well, for my Imperial Fists army, I've got a guy with a two-handed chain sword that kinda looks like Rogal Dorn's if you have seen his picture but maybe buying the Black Templar conversion kit, erase the templar cross (cough, cough, heresy!) and add them to your character, it has a lot of different armor and intresting weapons you can convert but there's an idea. winterdyne
I like having unique models in squads - though sadly I'm resigned to not being able to do that many for my own armies. There's no need to make it a character though - a standard squaddie converted well can look just as striking. WingsOfTheFalcon
Why stick to one of them? I say go for a different on in each squad! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205429-modelling-unique-tactical-squads/#findComment-2450881 Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
Anything but Apothecaries would work. I like the Chaplain/Librarian aspirants idea. Apothecaries are going to cost you a fortune in cash right now, since the bitz for them have skyrocketed in price with the release of the Blood Angels codex. onipunk
Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I think I'm going to go for the chaplain/librarians in-training idea. Just to be clear, it isn't the sergeant I'm converting, it's a normal squaddie. Here are my ideas for the first Warrior-Adept: Head: Dark Angels Hooded Crusader Helmet Torso: Black templar Tabard (with the long purity seals) Legs: Standard Tactical Squad Legs Arms: Black Templars Chained Boltgun Shoulders: Red Scorpion Shoulder (my army is the Steel Scorpions) and a Death Company Shoulder (the one with the angel engraved on it) Backpack: Black Templar Backpack Colour Scheme: Dark blue primary colour, silver trim and detailing, with dark red robes and some turquoise and white details. Does that sound like an alright start to the idea? ShinyRhino
Sounds like it'll look really great! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205429-modelling-unique-tactical-squads/#findComment-2450912 Share on other sites
onipunk
Another thought I had, just to set special characters apart from the norm is to use special shoulder pads for them. For example, my Apothecary will get the usual geneseed helix shoulder pad along with the Death Company Pad with the blood drops on it. Similar for other characters: my librarians/psyker units will be getting the angelic soulder pad and my future chaplain will be given a skull pad. Is this a good idea or would I be better off just sticking to 'the norm'? THE GHOMA
I have a chaplain in training in a squad of mine. I have him reading reading a book and carrying a power weapon, along with a bunch of purity seals. Montuhotep
Trainee Chaplains are a good pick - the ages old description of them in the old Red Compendium states that they keep their usual armour colours except helm, one arm and one pad which are black. I use them as my Vanguard squad or mean to as all Chappies are meant to be good at taking Crozius to Face. Aspirant Librarians are a really sweet idea and I'd love to see how you pull it off. Or you could do a marine as a prior member of the Deathwatch. I know there are no rules for them any more, but what with the DW pad, silver arm and different bolter it'd make quite a difference to the look of the squad.
