lunchb0x
I am having a hell of a time beating this Marine list : (rough description of what he takes ) 8 Razorbacks , 2 las/plas, 6 assault cannons. Every squad is 5 or 6 man. 3 dev squads with 4 missile on average 6 speeders, 3 with multi-meltas , and the remaining with 3 cyclone + h.bolter. Librarian on occasion he will swap out some bits to run 2 x10 sternguard with combi-meltas/flamers in drop pods and 9 speeders... So yeah how do you beat this list? He takes out my long range vehicles/troops with anti-tank first. 12 missile shots will take most things out. Then what ever is left he moves up and shoots with all the assault cannons...mean time none of his stuff comes out of transports. Ideas??

Requiem of the Wolf
I missed you! But don't worry, this time I will account for wind and cover. *grins* Ok Well off the top of my head I would ask what you have in Long range Anti vehicle..and up close anti personnel. I am not the best expert on Blood Angels, but I think a Baal Predator or two that got the scout move thingy and went flat out, then first turn roared in and used the flamers on the dev squad would be a good start. Alternately...and this is going to sound odd i know but bear with me. 10 Terminators, with two Cyclone launchers. Use their long range to smack the Dev squads around, especially if they arent able to get cover. If he normally puts them in cover, put the 10 in a Land Raider redeemer and roll it up on them as hard and fast as you can move it. Pop smoke the first turn for a cover save,by the second turn you should be on them. Drop your guys out of the redeemer either before or after it moves the distance to the target, then have your terminators unleash with 8 storm bolters and 4 krak missiles into one squad, while your redeemer cooks a second. Or have Tactical Squads in Rhinos with missile launchers, don't move the rhinos and have your heavy weapons poke their heads out the top and take potshots at the dev squad, or the Razorbacks. Set terrain when you get the chance to cause him to have to funnel his forces. If he lines them up often,Drop pod a Furioso Librarian with Blood Lance and Fear of the Dark. Maybe get Squads of Sternguard in Twin las Razorbacks with HK missiles. Swarm his troops with as much long range firepower as you can the first turn. Or Drop pod 10 Terminators with 2 Assault Cannons and 8 Stormbolters right on top of his dev squads and then chew them up with lots of firepower. yodaid764
Yeah, without knowing what you run/have it is difficult to say what you can do. But in a nutshell....beat him at his own game. Use drop pod units to hit him hard and fast. Just keep in mind anything you deploy like that might very well die just as quickly, but anything that gets him to focus away from the rest of your army gives you breathing room. Red Fury
I'd try drop podding flamers to take out the devastators, using sternguard, RAS/tacs with flamers, dreads with H.Flamers, etc. You'd have to take enough of them to make a real impact on turn 1 but none of the options are very pricey. Reserve combi-preds and TLlascannon razors. Move on 6-12 inches and pop all that light armor. Preds should go for squadrons first if they are around. Outflank BBQ baals for more anti-devastator mopup operations or even dakka baals for a bit more versitile anti armor/infantry versatility. Depending on the rest of the build. That's what I'd try anyway... -Fury
lunchb0x
what about the 6+ speeders? How could I handle those and the devs?
Lynnean
lunchb0x :P i missed you and your work mate ;) against that, i'd say melta's. Melta HG's; in Razorbacks with Lascannons/multi melta's. failing that? scouts with a missile launcher or Melta bombs ;)
Lorenzen
deepstrike up his face.. dunno what you are running vs it.. but id suggest a few ironclads and some thundershield termies, drop in, melt him then mop up.. chances are with a list like that hes not going to have much in terms of combat ability, so punish him for it. other option is to take masses of marines, anti tank spam doesnt seem so clever when theres no tanks on the board :D
angel of justice
what points level is this at? also throwing priests amongst your squads makes the krak missles a lot less scary.
All-Things-Power-Armoured
Yeah thats a pretty neat list. but he's offering his army of kill points in vehicles. Run a list of 6 tactical squads, each with Missile launcher and melta. Combat squad them all. This gives him 12 targets to aim at. (or lascannons) Thats only 1110 points. And judging by what he has its a fairly large list. The rest of your points go on a deadly combination of 3 predator destructors (weighing in a 100 point each they can crack open razorbacks and landspeeders easily) and 3 Baals with assault cannons Thats 1845 points in total. If you have any points left over take a razorback for each of the tactical squads, each of them with twin assault or twin las. This means you cans tick your melta armed combat squads in these. the lascannons can pick off the tanks while your twin assault razorbacks drive forward and smash the devestators. Squad with meltas jump out and fry his vehicles (pretty much no matter they are they're going to die) Predators just smash anything they can see. Baals go after the devestator squads and annihalators take out the landspeeders before they get close enough to do too much damage (remember they will be in vehicle squadrons that make them much easier to take out!) what points level is this at? also throwing priests amongst your squads makes the krak missles a lot less scary. At str 8, feel no pain makes no difference at all. Instant death.
lunchb0x
Points are 2.5k I have yet to use the same list against him, so its a mute point sadly. It is fun running against this list, due to the challenge but its bloody difficult!!! Today he is going to run his drop pod and sternguard heavy list...So now i need to figure out how to fight against sternguard dumping right on top of me with the melta-flamer combos... I am thinking of keeping everything in reserve then rushing on and hitting him with everything. Since he must dump half his army on turn 1, and I have the speed of all the rhino chassis to my advantage.
Taranis
It is difficult to counter a specialized army with a balanced! When he spams razors and marines counter it with terminators to gain saves and multible plasma gun squads in pods with beacons and assault marines with DOA. Or go for astorath and a million DC in droppods. T.

Red Fury
For the speeders, use either combi-preds or rifleman dreads, the dreads might actually be better here for both speeders and razors. The only downside is that they can only move 6 and fire but I guess it is really the same as the preds if you want to fire everything anyways... AoJ is right about the priests though, you'll at least get your FNP save even with all those AP3 missiles and asscannon shots, except for the rending ones. I like the DC idea too. Although just maybe one 10man DC in a pod. They could be used to drop in next to the Devs or to follow in the sternguard. Load them up with mostly bolters to rapid fire the tun they come down and a couple pws for the followup. They'd be pretty versatile and a real pain for the other guy to finish off. Sternguard shouldn't be too bad, especially if you reserved everything.
lunchb0x
Mephiston... http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/mwahhaha.gif Koyote, If you ever get to play a big brute of a man called Taylor...thats who I am talking about. Due to his work he gets to play all along the I5 corridor....and now to your post. Ive though about bringing HIM, but , I know how Taylor plays and he will dump everything possible into him....so would it really be worth the 250 pnts? As far as the comments about FNP...you only get FNP if a save would be taken normally and not 2x toughness, nor ap1, or ap2. This is what I am taking against him today : Lib- Epis - T.Armour - Lance- Unleash rage Lib - Epis - Sword - Rage - Infernus Pistol Techmarine - Serv.Harness - 4 servs - 2xh.bolter ( I dont want to hear it! ) Priests (x3) - 1 T.Armour, 2x Power weapons melta bombs Death Co. - 5 man Packs Death Co. Dread - Drop Pod Assault - 10 man - Flamer, Melta, power fist Redemeer - Multi-Melta Tactical - 10 man - Flamer, Missile Launcher, P.Weapon, Melta Razor Back - E.Armour Dread - Las/Missile Dread - Dakka - Dakka Drop Pod The only thing I know is that he is taking his drop pod list...and that at the minimum means at least 2 squads of Sternguard kitted out, as well as 6 speeders. I am thinking at least 2 special character HQs, and at least 4 Razorbacks...though I do not know how many Heavy options he will be taking. Ill let you yall know how this goes....
