Master of fact
Im a decent painter but not when it comes to blue and white. Im Redo my 4th company from scratch. I am using assault on black reach as a starting stone. The captain will be Uriel Ventris. I know, i just like the character. So any good guides for doing a nice ultramarine blue ect. Many thanks PS I turned to chaos for a while but got board and missed my ultra's! Tranc
I've been experimenting with various Ultramarine color schemes since I made that tutorial on ultramarines.co.uk. Here are some examples: light blue, white & red: (You mentioned not being able to paint blue & white specifically. For blue, I recommend experimenting by base coating with GW Regal Blue, then highlighting with Ultramarine Blue, Enchantment Blue & Enchantment Blue + some White. You could also try base coating with Ultramarine Blue and shading with Ultramarine Blue + a little black and highlighting with Ultramarine Blue + some white. For white, basecoat with white + a little Shadow Grey. The Shadow Grey will hide the color underneath better than pure white. After that highlight up to pure white. For a dingy white, you can shade with browns, or Shadow Grey if you want to keep it more pristine.) battle damaged: deep blue, red-orange & green: dark blue, yellow & red: brighter blue, red, yellow & white: Some more examples can be found on my blog: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...blogid=854& If you're painting 4th company, you'll be using some green. I think it goes pretty well with red, like on the shield above or in the "Defenders of Ultramar" cover: http://img1.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n62/n310534.jpg -Tranc Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205472-need-decent-painting-guide/#findComment-2451241 Share on other sites
Cptn. Palladorus
Tranc, how did you get the red on that 3rd Company marine? It's exactly the shade I've been trying to figure out. rodf
Tranc puts a ton of thin coats , you can barely tell he is putting on a color. Patiance is the mans tool. He also wont play till he is all done , paints like 250 points every 6 months... Tranc when are you playing your fantasy , or you need to have the full force painted before you do ? the astartes has a paint guide , and cool mini or not has one techniques . Tranc
Thanks GC! And it never gets old hearing that from you Tranc, how did you get the red on that 3rd Company marine? It's exactly the shade I've been trying to figure out. I pretty much used GW's entire range of red Basecoat with a mix of Scab Red + a small amount of Black Add more Scab Red to the mix for the first highlight (very liberal highlight, all over the place except the deepest parts). Add some Red Gore to the mix for the second highlight (around 50% of the surface area). Use Red Gore + Blood Red for third highlight. Add some more Blood Red to the mix for the fourth highlight (small high areas only). Add some Blazing Orange to the mix for fifth highlight (just line highlights on the shart edges) Consider using Fiery Orange for spot highlights at the ends of hard edges. Make sure to use some water mixed with your paint to keep it smooth, but not so much that lots of paint pools in the recesses because it can dry funky. Cptn. Palladorus
Thanks Tranc, but I'm neither that patient nor that rich, and I definitely can't highlight worth a damn. Guess it's back to the drawing board for me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205472-need-decent-painting-guide/#findComment-2451449 Share on other sites
