Hendrics84
Hey guys, im pretty new to writing fluff, and decided i wanted to come up a backstory to my Space Wolf army. I get wrapped up in writing short storys, as i write, i come up with more and more elaborate ideas, which may be my undoing in fluff writing within the 40k universe, but i had a good time getting it to this point Here is what i have so far, if you like it, let me know, if you dont like it, let me know :) all comments are welcome. Chapter - Corripio se Immoderatus (Journey of the immortal) Wolf Lord - Skjold Banesabre Homeworld - Fenris Geeneseed Chapter - Space Wolves Notable Ships: Flagship: W.L. Berek Thunderfist 1st Command Carrier: W.L. Morkai 1st Strike Cruiser: Ragnarok 2nd Command Carrier: W.L. Russ 2nd Strike Cruiser: Ultmo 3rd Command Carrier: W.L.: Fenris 3rd StriKe Cruiser: Icefang *(w.l. - Wolf Lair) More to name, i would say consists of 300-400 ships, from military ships to civillian ships **HQ** Wolf Lord Skjold Banesabre - 160 Frost Blade Saga of the warrior born Wolftooth neckless Intro to Backstory Skjold was a relatively young Blood Claw and was fortunate enough to witness the turn of a new century. And as with each century passed, the Space Wolf Apothecaries let down the stasis fields that kept Bjorn the Fel Handed at rest, to hold court at the Great Feast. Skjold watches as the blue statis field draws down around Bjorn with a *hissssssssst*. All is quiet, except a faint buzzing eminating from somewhere inside Bjorn. Then the engines start up and Bjorn is once again awake... Awake to tell the tale he has told over 150 times to different generations of Space Wolf. Of how he rose up from being a Blood Claw. Then moving up to Grey Hunter and fighting along side Leman Russ himself during the the Horus Hersey, then being promoted to Wolf Guard as part of his personal retinue. All the way up to the day that Leman Russ decided he was going to venture into the Eye of Terror. The day he made Bjorn the first Great Wolf. But along with being made a Great Wolf, he was NOT chosen to go with Russ and the rest of the Wolf Guard into the eye. Bjorns bitterness and rejection can be sensed by almost all who hear him speak. This story reached somewhere deep insdie Skjold, somewhere that not even he has been able to venture to. He had made a promise to himself that day, someday there will be not just a Great Hunt for the Primarch, but an Endless hunt! *Future of the story and where i want to take it* Before one of the Great Hunts, a company of wolves got tohether, lead by an older and battle hardened Skjold Banesabre, and decided they were not going to come back from this until they had located Leman Russ, and destroied every chaos faction they come across until they reach him. They formed a chapter, "Corripio se Immoderatus" He had recruited enough Space Wolves to a mass a sizable fleet, which soon turned into a flotilla of ships. The ships recruited on Fenris all departed the Fang at once, making for quite a sight to those looking up and watching. The rest of the ships were already waiting in orbit or near by to start the journey. Over a period of time out in space, it put the Wolves rather out of their element, living in such a crampped environment. This did however make the Wolves even more battle hungry when they did get to shuttle down to a planet for combat. Often times when the Wolf Companys return from battle missions, they will have brought along with them some items of worth. Wether it be an arm with a gun still in the death clinch of its previous owners fist, or a bottom jaw of a skull with gold teeth in it. Over time, and many battles, the Chapter had aquired quite a collection of valuable technology and weapons. It wasnt long before other Imperial ships passing by notice the armada of Space Wolf ships flying as one large, terrifying, almost living entitiy. And Somthing that almost looked like lightniing, sparking every now and again between the hulls of the ships, The flotilla has now become a sort of massive moving space port for Imperial ships who dare enter the "Lair of the Wolf" (as it has been nicknamed over the years). It has kept Skjold Banesabre and his "Corripio se Immoderatus" on track for the largest Journey in search of Leman Russ since his disappearance into the Eye of Terror. Over time, Skjold adopted the "Lair of the wolf" as the name for Thefleet, and made his reputation reflect it. *The Lair of the Wolf* The flotilla of ships itself is a massive orb of 300 military ships and 100 civialian ships, aligned in large spherical formation. The flotillas Armorys and Vehichle Plants are large enough for multiple Space Wolf Companys to have whichever load out they so choose. Remote operation Mining systems are deployed around local clusters as well as transport stations to maintain material supply flow. The floatila is also willing to trade with anyone who trusts the Wolf. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205485-new-to-fluff-writing/ Share on other sites
Skirax
Ok, I've got the feeling that you've designed this Chapter as a Successor to the Space Wolves... you do know that, due to genetic instability, Wolves cannot have a successor, right? Because you say that they have 'recruited', but IIRC SW can only be recruited from Fenris as the Canis Helix only agrees with them. spjaco
Not a bad story idea, Wolfbrother. Though me-thinks you may be a bit out on a limb with the organization as it were. Now if you scale it back a bit to start, say a Wolf Lord departs on a Great Hunt and vows to never return until he is either dead or has found Russ and somehow ends up settling in a distant star system barely acknowledged by the Imperium and is actually able to obtain new recruits from a world startling similiar to Fenris.... Hendrics84
About the recruits my lord has picked up, they are all from fenris, as well as the fleet of ships that make up the flotilla, side maybe from the civilian ships. I don't know if the fang has 300 military ships, all full of blood claws, grey hunters, preists, and wolf guard, but that was my hope, that they did. I don't know about making them a successor to the wolves, but rather a roaming band of wolves looking for their lost primarch But this is my first attempt at this, so if something is wrong with it as I wrote it, i would like to know what to correct. I love the idea of them finding some far off planet similar to fenris to get "new recruits" from, that would adapt well to the space wolf geneseed Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205485-new-to-fluff-writing/#findComment-2451219 Share on other sites
Skirax
Ok, so building on this, despite them being on a 'constant voyage', they somehow manage to obtain recruits from Fenris? Is there a small contingent on Fenris that sends recruits off to the Fleet? I'm not too sure the Wolves will be happy about their Blood Claws being sent halfway across the Galaxy... Apart from that, the fluff is very good. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205485-new-to-fluff-writing/#findComment-2451267 Share on other sites
Hendrics84
Im thinking that my Wolf Lord, over his many years of being on The Fang, has gathered enough true space wolves and their ships to embark on this voyage. While they are out and searching for Leman Russ, i suppose shuttles could depart from Fenris to meet up with the flotilla to drop off new recruits - OR - the wolves on the flotilla that go out to battle, bring back their fallen battle brothers to one of the many Wolf Priests aboard the flotilla to revive them. After the Rune Priests healing potion takes effect, they are essentially re-trained in space aboard specifically outfitted ships by expierienced Grey Hunters, or any Wolf that is seasoned enough to prepare the "reborn" Wolves. Wysten
Aye, the thing is, a space wolves company consists of about 130/150 Active combatant space wolves, with a unspeified number of support marines, surfs and Seritors. Considering a strike curiser can about contain a single company of Codex Marines, (100, plus their verious support) and a battle barge is a home away from home for the chapters. (So pretty much a entire chapter, 1000 space marines, plus command circle and verious support such as pilots) Plus they cannot command Cavillain, or Imperial Guard as part of a age old decree that started during the Horus legercy in 30 K. In short, your probably going to have about 2 Strike Cuisers, or a single battle barge (assuming that the Wolf Lord managed to get another one from say, a Chaos warband or something. They have a habit of nicking stuff without letting the machine guys know. XD) would be the most a single Wolf Lord could fesably command by himself. So just aware that, unless you somehow drummed up multiple Wolf lords, your fleet is not going to be that massive. Though argueably 1 Strike Crusiaer of space marines is overkill on a planet. XD Though, if you can get in touch with other Space Wolves players and basically get them all on this crusaide, that could make for some pretty epic roleplaying, mixed in with the skull cracking and drinking. XD A entire fleet of multiple Wolf lords, inspired by Bjons epic tale, traveling in search of their primarch. Don't let the canon restrict you in that reguard, as making your own fluff is a cool thing that makes your version chapter unique. Just make sure you make it sound realistic. ^^ Also, as a slight note, a space wolf being killed on board does not nessiarily means he dies. Just that he's injuried in such a way that he cannot further take part in the battle. Space Marines in general go into a induced coma when greviously injuried in battle until proper medical aid can be adminstored. Hendrics84
Thank you brothers for your input. It is greatly appreciated. I will spend some more time over the upcoming weeks to iron out the details. I was unaware of the ships and sizes, i was just naming notable ships, as i was using a format from a "Make your own fluff" guide, but i shall make it right. So Civilian ships should not be included in my flotilla? I chose the number of ships to be in the hundreds because i wanted to make this a grand crusade of sorts, one of which the Space Wolves have never seen before, and kind of evolve it into somthing more... "... notice the armada of Space Wolf ships flying as one large, terrifying, almost living entitiy" And i definatly want to incorporate a new planet, very similar to Fenris that the Wolves can attempt to adapt their current geneseed to, to make new Space Wolves (slightly modified obviously - due to them not coming from Fenris) a la Spjaco's idea  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205485-new-to-fluff-writing/#findComment-2451470 Share on other sites
Wysten
Aye, I am just saying that a grand crusaide of sorts is not that possible in those sort of numbers, partly due to the fact of limitations and that Space Marines cannot command the imperial guard to limit their power. So really, considering the entire space wolves chapter is thought to be only slightly above the theshold, and that a wolf lord basically is one of 12, the numbers are simply not there. And more then a couple of battle barges is a sign of war to the =][=. Though that being said, Space Wolve groups do branch off and go their own ways, so perhaps a group of them went rengade in the "Never mind the rules, we have booze!" sense and found another planet with simlar condictions, and effectively built a huge Marine base from there and basically took on every IG they could find provided they had the spirit for adventure. Of course, this would make them a renagade chapter that would be an enermy to the stale old Imperium. Meaning they would be liable to be targeted by other Space Marine group and the entire Imperial empire as their foe along with Chaos.(Though, it allows an explanation for why your wolves are fighting other loyalist groups. XD) Though if the planet is not charted by the Empire, then this immense fleet could probably go unchecked for quite some time. Perhaps even resulting in the wolf time, a legion of wolves being reborn to do battle with the forces of Chaos.
