Leman Russ Questions.

Recommended Posts

1. about ten feet i think thier supposedly head and shoulders or more over typical marines.

2. a thousand sons said it was a copperish color but i've seen blond models.

3.just picture your sterotypical viking without the beard

4. i dont really know what you mean by this question

hope this helps.

not sure on how tall. they are frequently described as dwarfing marines, who are around the 7ft mark.

how much this size is height, or bulk, or just sheer presence, is not obvious, but they are definitely taller to some extent.

to my mind the primarchs are physically different to the astartes in proportion. they are often referred to as being "perfection" of the human form, or "godlike" etc. to this end i tend to view them as simply massively built, very tall, but proportionally "human". marines on the other hand are genetically modified freaks of nature. ugly, brutish giants that are grossly over muscled and out of propotion.

as for Leman Russ. there are varying descriptions of him. the earliest is a black and white illustration of him in WD and reprinted in the old 40k compilation (i think). as above, think longhaired, vikingy-type. clean shaven. long hair in a top knot.

good info gents here are some things that i would like to know

1) i heard some ware that his sword is a demon sword (re forged obviously) is this true?

2)were his eyes yellow ( like a wulfen)?

3)have peices of his armour been found? the reason why i ask this one is because the manager of my local GW keeps taunting me saying ha has turned into a daemon prince and that his armour was found broken, as if something had burst it from the inside out.

If the John Blanche stuff doesnt help then:

1-About 10 foot, a Primarch to to a space marine what a space marine is to a human height wise, if not bigger

2-My avatar/Look here, post #157*

3-My avatar/Look here, post #157

4-My avatar/Look here, post #157

*Although I've heard arguments of his hair being either red, blonde or black

Regarding his armour, that is complete nonsense. Absolute gibber-monkey malarkey.

The Wolf Helm was originally given to Russ and is now held by our Chapter. I'm not sure if the Pelt of Wulfen is the same worn by Russ when he ventured into the realms of the dead; either way it also is a relic of the Chapter. He is still wearing his power armour and having a lovely time in the Eye of Terror - I got a postcard just the other day.

Bottom line, Russ will return to lead us for the Wolftime.

The Axe Morkai used by Logan Grimnar is a reforged weapon containing the rage of a god taken from a defeated champion of Khorne. That may be what you're thinking of there.

The Jes Goodwin black and white picture is the iconic image of our Primarch. It is essentially what the (rather old) model looks like too, sculpted by Jes funnily enough.

There is a post somewhere that they found his bracers or shoulder piece. Nothing about him turning into a demon. Alot of the GW staff are pricks. Don't take him seriously.

Come to think about it, I only like about 4 of them off hand. All the others have been touched? Odd? You get what I am saying.

He was wounded so maybe they do have part of his true armor. Happens, get is broken and discarded.

I have allways imagined Leman Russ with a full beard, and somehow continue to do so even though I am fully aware that there are a few official depictions where he is allways shaven. There is just something that rings true about a full bearded russ shaking his fists in anger at a traitor or laughing out loud after having had his fight with Jonson.
I think the others here have it about right. The cover of the forthcoming "Prospero Burns" features a picture of the legendary Russ:

Hope that helps!

I thank you, sir, for making my day! I had not heard about the Prospero Burns, which is unfortunate because i was really really hoping they'd make a horus heresy SW book, but...to find out its being written by Dan Abnett?! wow. I'm...very happy. None of the other HH authors can compare to him. Thank you!

Please stay on target guys...

i am trying to get a good idea of what Russ looks like.

I see that he is blonde (thankfully not ginger/red, that looks soooooo gay)

I refuse to listen that russ armour was found in the eye of terror, it would help if someone got a quote or passage posted up saying about that

Also on the cover of Prospero Burns, the wolves next to russ are... Blackmane? Thunder? they definately aren't normal fenrisian wolves...

also, they look rather... human. That is worrying, considering the rumours going around about that fenrisian wolves are basically fenrisians who failed the test of Morkai, and became wulfen monstrosities roaming the wilderness.

Also on the cover of PB, Russ seems tiny. Tiny. Like an inch taller than a space marine. That is stupid, he isn't AlphariusOmegon.

On cover of PB, who are the two golden guards standing around Russ

and if you get the chance type on Prospero Burns on google and look at the wallpaper for it (stretched out version). That is the power of the wolf.

From what i gathered, this is Russ:

Russ is a huge, hulking beast of a man around 14Ft tall. He dwarfs his chapter, and is the same size as his Brother Primarchs.

He carries a huge frost weapon one handed.

His armour much resembles power armour, but with spikes and studs covering the mostern part of the armour.

His hair is a strong golden colour and is styled into a top-knot style.

His (backpack) is shaped the same as a space marines, is alot larger and has two giant golden wolf heads covering the either side of the pack.(Morkai)

He kicks arse.

Also, is it true Russ ripped the throat out of a Daemon prince of Khorne? Apparently it is written in some black library book. It is a hint who would win between Russ and Angron.

This is what i have gathered, i hope you guys agree with it!

For Russ's regalia in that picture of prospero burns, his sword is Mjalnar (check spelling) obviously a 40k'd spelling of thor's mythical hammer mjolnir. The two wolves pictured are or should be his pack brothers from his childhood on fenris Geri and Freki. His armor is probably some custom made runic type super spiffy primarch custom made job. From what i remember from the HH series i think a regular marine in power armour stands to about a primarchs chest. From the fluff background i do remember a Great Hunt retrieving his armor not sure if its all of it or just his chest piece from a planet near the EOT not sure if there was a chaos god temple near it. His spear is aptly named the Spear of Russ. Excuse me if this is a bit jumbled fourth of july here in the states and i am rather inebriated. Hope this helps.

There seems to be conflict about the Primarch's hair colour.

Though someone else put a theory forward that Primarchs are capable of changing their hair colour and other features.

The Horus Heresy Collected visions has a lot of cool work and I would recommend it to any person in the hobby, there's at least one ref of Russ. (Not sure if some of the links above are pieces from it, my computer isn't happy with hyperlinks...)

famous battles 2nd great hunt means were not bsing on armour.

he wields a sword named mjolnier, has a spear (i forgot the name)

probably Runic Armour

hmmm interesting. Does anybody know where this comes from? I've not had any luck finding the source material so far.

EDIT: Argh is in our first codex. Hiding away in the fluff on the Wolf Lord page (p47). I retract my gibber-monkey claim

really need one of the wolf priests of lore who know all but from what i remember

blonde hair etc

power armour - parts found in the EOT - i do not know the source of this but remember it being linked in a similar thread

i thought the presumption of his armour being found was that he was running rould wulfen style killing chaos tools

spear of russ was never used by russ

sword called mjolnir

Leman Russ was gifted a magnificent suit of armor thrice blessed by the Emperor, and his sword was replaced by the magnificent Frost Blade Mjalnar, forged from the teeth of the mighty Ice Kraken Gormenjarl. The blade was said to be able to split the mountains of Fenris in twain.

OK Russ was a giant of a man. So basically huge But not as big obviously as Magnus. (codex SW 2nd Ed)

his hair is depicted as Blond al the way through to bright orang/red (collected Visions)

All Primarchs wore power armour/artificiar armour (but way better than the SM versions)

Leman Russ looks like a feral SW with wild hair. depending on which artwork you look at his eyes are slightly yellow/wolflike (collected vision)

He had a Sword gifted to him by th eEMP called mjolnir(codex SW 2nd ed) It was not a demon weapon

Yes he had a Spear also give to him by the emp which he kept losing when he was drunk, trying to throw it at the moon. (SW book no 6, cant remember the name its late)

@ The Sone of Russ please reference as best you can this story about Russ and the Demon Prince of Khorne? Not heaqrd that before

Also please ignore the rumours going around about that fenrisian wolves are basically fenrisians who failed the test of Morkai, and became wulfen monstrosities roaming the wilderness. As this has not been proven and the arguments for it are conjecture.

I have tried to reference stuff as best as I can, Obvioulsy without all my vast library (i am work) I cant give page no etc. If anybody wants to query anything feel free.

This might help.

Damn, ninja'd by Hotspur  Damn you sir

:teehee:  :woot:

Sorry, brother! I didn't mean to steal your thunder!

Here have a tankard of ale on me!

*Passes frothing tankard of Fenrisian ale to Skirax, slapping nearest Bloodclaw in the process for being a wily little twerp*

This might help.
