Primarch Duel

Ok, so pairing up all these Primarchs to their alternatives, if you can help then great.

I was planning on matching Primarchs up, post heresy. Who would win?

 

1: Russ vs Angron

2: Guilliman vs Alpharius

3: Dorn vs Horus

4: Ferrus Manus vs Fulgrim

5: Vulkan vs Mortarion

6: Corax vs Curze

7: Sanguinius vs Peturabo

8: Khan vs Lorgar

9: Lion El Jonson vs Magnus

 

I feel i havnt matched up them right, if you want to you can re arrange them, but can you decide- who would win?

(this is before any buffers have been added by being Daemon Prince).

Others around here will be able to help a great deal I'm sure - but you need to work on those match up's. If by 'alternatives' you mean 'nemesis' then there's some serious swapping round to do. e.g:-

 

Russ vs Magnus

Dorn vs Perturabo

Sanguinius vs Horus

 

...to name a few. These matchups are more in tune with their actual 'rivals'. Ferrus Mannus vs Fulgrim seems OK though. Like I say - I'm sure others will be able to give you a better run down of their particular opposites.

If you mean paired up by the person most similar in style I would say:

 

1 Russ v Angron Close Combat oriented

2 Corax v Curze Infiltrators Hit and run

3 Fulgrim v Guilleman Martial perfection

4 Pertubo v Dorn Seige Masters

5 Khan v Mortarion ~shrugs~

6 Sanguinus v Horus Ideals

7 Ferrus Manus v Vulkan Smiths/ Creaters

8 Lion v Magnus Intelligent

9 Lorgar v Alpharius ~shrug~

 

Now who would win is pretty much down to opinion. My thoughts:

 

1. Russ may be a berserker but wolves still are very tactical so I am going to give him the edge because of it.

2. Curze has the advantage here because of his premonitions.

3. Guilleman may be the better general, but i believe Fulgrim would be the better fighter

4. Dorn's legion has tradtions of one on one duels so id give him this.

5. Mortarion was always portrayed as a patsy he may be a primarch, but my money is on the Khan

6. We already know who won this one.

7. My money is on Vulkan. He was one of the tougher/ stronger primarchs and this doesnt seem like it will be a finesse fight.

8. Magnus may have this one becuase of his psyker-ness, but the lion is the best swordsman of the primarchs

9. No idea i dont know anything about these guys.

 

5 and 9 I have no idea how to pair them better. No one really fights like these guys do. Lorgar and Alpharius were at least known for their faith.

Edit:

 

Vampyrer0me0's pairings look much better, but I would have a few suggestions:

 

Corax vs. Alpharius - infiltration and sneaking around galore

 

Khan vs. Night Lords - hit & run, striking an unexpecting enemy (plus at least in their Index Astartes and the 3.5 Codex the Night Lords were attributed with a preference for fast units)

 

Vulkan vs. Mortarion - tenacity (intractable infantry advance)

 

Ferrus Manus vs. Lorgar - determination, belief in a strong body and mind vs. belief in a strong faith

Corax vs Alpharius? Hmmm...If that was televised...it would be a black screen...occassionally you would get a muzzle flash...And then it would be over...and whoever won would be too damn sneaky to say so.

 

On a side note re Alpharius....did anyone else read that book in the horus heresy set and get right pissed off about the whole thing?

I would say the following:

 

1 - too close to call I suspect Russ may pull it out of the bag as he is less rage dependant than Angron although Angron would run him close

2 - Guilliman as I think he is the most balanced of the 2 being excellent in all areas so I would suspect he just shaves it

3 - Again a draw but chaos imbued Horus I would give it too

4 - Fulgrim as we know

5 - Vulkan is tough but Mortarion I think would win out there

6 - Coraz is his "invisible" ability works he would win

7 - Sanguinius I think would get this, nor real reason just a gut feel

8 - Khan I suspect although little is known about him as such he just seems one tough guy

9 - Magnus hands down as the psychic powers he has would make him a match for most

 

The trouble is each one has abilities and a situation that would make them more than they are on their own but some far better on their own than others. Angron, Magnus, Russ etc are awsome on their own.

 

Horus was not the hardest but did amazing at winning hearts and minds of the dominated worlds the imperium took, also he was excellent at leading a force. Guilliman was great at getting the purest marines and keeping them pure. Good on his own but give him an objective to hold then he was a master of defence.

 

Khan in hit and run wouldbe amazing as would Corax but Corax was hard although not a straight out slugger of a fighter. Lion El Johnson was a master of the blade and a pure man, Magnus owned as a psyker.

 

They all had a certain set up where the could best one another but some were better in most situations than others etc so its a hard one to call.
