Zid
Howdy all, so I started getting back into 40k and bought a few items. Stormravens made me pretty excited when I learned about them, so the first conversion for my BA was to be a stormraven... and this is how it turned out http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/ZiD_0/DSCN2900.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/ZiD_0/DSCN2899.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/ZiD_0/DSCN2898.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/ZiD_0/DSCN2897.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/ZiD_0/DSCN2896.jpg Now I know "fluffwise" the dread hatch is supposed to be in the back. However, I had absolutally NO bitz and just a Valk kit... the bits on the valk now I took from my friends "trash" bitz box. I used everything from the valk kit excluding the pilots sprue. I used a bunch of sponson land raider bitz (for the tail/back to my cockpit). I wanted it to look more "fighter" like. The center I used some plasticboard (my friend says its the same as plasticard, which I doubt ;) ) along with 3 back hatches for razorbacks to build my dreadnought holding area. The two side areas with the holes will be where I mount 1 Assault Cannon per side when I get them (will count as twin-linked). On the nose I mounted a multi-melta bit I got from a purchase I made... I only had 1, but will tell people its twin linked (I also think it looks better honestly). The hold in the middle magnetizes thedread in. Only problem is its a little too small to fit 'em with his arms on... so I figure when he gets dropped off I'll put his arms on. So for my first time using plasti-card-board-whatever I think it turned out OK. Wasn't as "fluid" as I would have liked, and the dread hatch was a little too small, but painted up I think it'll turn out to look rather nice! From the pics you cannot really tell, but I used dark elves skull-with-wings icons from their shields for some details, I wanted it to have blood angels icons but this was the closest I could find that was cheap (I used all my Death co. ones already lol) C&C is always welcome, I'm thinking of building a second eventually. Maybe not the same style, but I'm happy with my first attempt! Total cost: $40 for the model (online), $3 for the sign to steal the plasti-card from, $0 for the bitz (all taken from friends) = $43. Much less than the average Stormraven convert I've seen online! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205547-my-stormraven/ Share on other sites

MadGreek
Hello. Looks decent, especially for the price. I'd like to see it painted so all the very recognizable "bits," like the tank turret collars, aren't so obvious and everything blends. GlauG
It's easy to get a lot of views and no comments here, I've discovered. :D Personally, I both like and dislike your SR, for a bunch of reasons... Nice work with the Razorback/Pred turret mounts, and the plasticard work looks fine, but I'm just not generally a fan of Valk-to-Stormraven conversions where the distinctive Valkyrie cockpit/nose are the same... Doesn't seem Marine-y to me. I'm biased, of course, since I based mine on the "Baby Thunderhawk" type... Either way, agreeing with the above post, I'd like to see it painted! Zid
Thanks for the comments :) Like I said, i wanted to go for a "fighter" look. I really wanted to do a convert to look like the plane I work on (I'm military) the CV-22... but don't have the money to get the parts I need @_@ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205547-my-stormraven/#findComment-2453383 Share on other sites
MadGreek
An Osprey look would be cool, more transport less fighter. Maybe get an Osprey model (1/35 scale) and work from there. Sanguinarian
I am guilty of drive-by viewing! ;) If you like it, that's all that should matter. Anything you do for yourself is better than what GW has done so far. ;) Personally - and not that it matters to you unless you take your design apart and refashion it according to my perception of what an SR should look like - I prefer the other builds, ala Baby Thunderhawks with Land Raider-esque styling. Because of its fragility, I don't see the SR as a fighter, let alone a viable Heavy Support option. Swap the melta-proof plating for AV13 all around, then maybe. I see it as a Troop Carrier first, then after it unloads it becomes a support platform. A Valkyrie would eat it up head-to-head. Can you imagine how successful a fiberglass F-16 would be in a dogfight vs a real F-16? Same thing here. On another note, as suggested, an Osprey wouldn't be a bad model to base a design on except for the helicopter props which in 40K would be Orky. :D Speaking of planes, my all-time favorite plane hands down is the A-10 Hog! That plane would be beyond perfect if only it could carry a squad of Special Forces. Now that would be a worthy design to copy. An A-10 would be cool, the payload on it is very simular to what a SR carries! I would LOVE to do an osprey convert... I'll prob do it for my second SR. Its a piece of *bleep* IRL, but its still a cool lookin plane! I appreciate ANY feedback, good or not :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205547-my-stormraven/#findComment-2453858 Share on other sites
Priest33
Great looking model, only have a problem with how the cockpit is attached to the plane, maybe get some plasticard and make a slope down the rear section of it as well? BOBMAKENZIE
You might look at riveting up the Plating you've used to extend the front cab. Im afraid at this point it just feels like a slight Valk Modification. Which isnt Bad its just doesnt wow me like I know you can do :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205547-my-stormraven/#findComment-2453889 Share on other sites
VAGABOND
That's possibly the best Stormraven I've seen yet. Fantastic work mate :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205547-my-stormraven/#findComment-2455452 Share on other sites
MadGreek
On the Osprey convert I would go for a more vectored thrust (akin to the Harrier) and skip the Rotors, which, as was said a few posts ago, are very Orky.
