Scratchbuilt Damocles

Recommended Posts

I was flipping through an Imperial Armor book and I took a look over the Damocles. It's the kind of vehicle every chapter should have, so I got up and started making my own, since being the perpetual broke I am, I would rather buy another full Rhino for the same price the conversion kit costs. So here's the photos of my homemade Damocles radar dish using parts most every Space Marine player has or can easily get. If anyone wants a tutorial, I could write one up but I can't do step by step photos because I don't have any more 40mm bases or the Predator door part I mounted the dish on.

Very nice conversion - definately have the majority of those bitz in my box!

My only constructice criticism would be to use plasticard rather than cardboard - lasts a little longer and doesn't take quite so much battle damage ;)

@ Sang. Reborn:

As described in Imperial Armor II: Space Marines and Forces of the Inquisition, it can be used as the 2nd HQ choice in an army, meaning you need another model as your main HQ choice. It has no transport capacity and can provide aid to arriving Reserve units and can signal down Imp. Guard air support or can coordinate an Orbital Bombardment.

Once per turn you can re-roll a single Reserves roll, and re-roll the dice when checking if an enemy unit or obstacle is hit by a preliminary bombardment. ((unsure of the prelim. bombardment rule is))

Any Teleporting units can re-roll their Scatter and Distance rolls for their Deep Strike.

You can take an Orbital Bombardment as a Heavy Support choice ((EXACTLY the same as the one in the DH Codex)) OR you can take an IG Lightning, Thunderbolt, or Vulture as a Heavy Support choice. ((See Imperial Armor I: Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy))

It can also take the standard Rhino upgrades as listed in C:SM, Dozer Blade, Extra Armor, HK Missiles, Stormbolter, Smoke Launchers and Search Lights. ((I'm gonna assume the last 3 are already included since they come standard on the basic Rhino and have no point cost in the codex))

@ Lestat:

I'd use plasticard if I had it, but I don't so I used cardboard. I also don't think plasticard can curve like I did for the radar dish, but I could be wrong. Thanks for the compliment and advice though ;)

For 60 points, it's not a terrible idea to have, I think.

.5mm thick plasticard will give you a nice curve. Go to a hardware store or a Lowe's or Home Depot and buy one of those cheap plastic For Sale, No Tresspassing, etc. signs.

A very inexpensive source of plasticard. ;)

Yeah, I know my model-fu isn't the best. I make stuff for tabletop use, so I know I'm not winning any awards with this. The primary idea behind it was making a Damocles as cost-efficiently as possible. And actually I was thinking about the big Aquila radar while I was making this, but I simply didn't have the parts, unfortunately.

Dave the twisted

They (FW) actually removed the IG options in the update on FW website now it is as described just minus the buying the HS form IG....sucks but ally that with a Chapter Master and a Prometheus and that is 3 orbital bombardments .....heheheheh
