cheeseychaoslord
Hi all, I just wanted to show you all this Space Marine i've been working on. I was trying to figure out a way to weather a marine using only washes. Hope you like it!! The Normish
Thanks. Here are some of my suggestions. I'm not sure about all the scroll work. In regards to logos I think it should be kept simple. The Hell's Angels logo is a good example. When you see it you know what it is without having to read the top our bottom rockers. The BIH on the shield should be good enough and maybe the motto on the shield. Ah, but this is Warhammer 40,000. Ornate scroll-work is part of the whole theme. I see what you mean though, it would simplify the design. Think we should put it up to a vote? Either that or its whatever is easier. I will try both ways and see what you guys think. I also left out the eagle claws holding the shield as it looked too much like US currency. you think so? I wasn't really thinking about it. I was sort of inspired by European eagle devices bearing scepters and such (i.e. Russian, Austrian Empires and Prussia - those guys had some really good looking eagles). All in all its a great design Normish and I can't wait to get it into the Mac. Thanks. Those are my thoughts and as long as every one agrees with the meat of the design that I posted I will begin inking it this week. Tuesday nights I have Billards league so most likly Wends for the inks. Inking just like painting minis, just got to remember to breath.... Also I have no internet from home now, (checking at work, M-F) but can post pics from my wifes friends lab top on the weekends. Brother Anthony Good luck with the Billiards then. Regards to your good lady. Brother Anthony
Well like I said well do one with the scrolls and one without and see. The scrolls done in Illustrator might really make it POP. I'm going to scan in the rough I have now and work on the scrolls as it might be a bit tricky. I would hope to have somthing this weekend and maybe get the whole thing banged out in 2 weeks or so. KhornateKiller
Hey Folks, Well i think i have finally finished this guy short of the base and any things you guys see, Im not that happy with the wings dont think they have come out just right. Some of the gems look ok i think but then others let me down & also i suck at eyes :P Any other comments let me know boys  http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp298/KhorneKiller/Image0415.jpg http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp298/KhorneKiller/Image0421.jpg http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp298/KhorneKiller/Image0416.jpg http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp298/KhorneKiller/Image0417.jpg http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp298/KhorneKiller/Image0418.jpg http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp298/KhorneKiller/Image0419.jpg http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp298/KhorneKiller/Image0420.jpg Cheers Andy Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205686-international-brotherhood-of-hobbyists/page/24/#findComment-2523602 Share on other sites
S. Bloodhowl
Awesome stuff KK, how did you do the NMM on the axe may I ask? It's some of the best I've seen! The Normish
The gold on the wings doesn't really match up to the halved red/black scheme. I would also suggest making the feathers a little darker. Otherwise, good work. @cheeseychaoslord: You can tell it uses only washes! The dark gritty colors works well, but it does look a little, well, blotchy. Which washes did you use? Pig Of Sparta
I just typed out a nice long reply and my laptop consigned it to the warp, so please bear with me.... I like the way that the seal is shaping up Brother Anthony. I think it could be cool (if it's not too much extra work) if we could have both the simplified one and the full one. That way we could use the simplified one in our sigs and the full one as a header in this thread and on the IBH forum. cheeseychaoslord: that marine looks pretty good for just washes. I like the subtle change in colour that you've achieved from his head to his feet. KK: now that he's assembled he looks even better. The pose is excellent and those gems are to die for. The look just like the real thing. The only thing I can suggest is to give the ridges on the golden parts of the wings a harsh highlight if you haven't already as they're a little be lost just now. Here's what I've been up to this evening with those Terminators you sent me: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9053-1.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9052-1.jpg (The other one is awaiting the highlights on the armour and the basecoat for the shoulder and knee pads). I've used a bastardised version of winterdyne's Ultramarines technique (mostly as I don't have an airbrush and if I did it's far too wet and cold in this part of the world to use one). The drybrushing doesn't work anywhere near as well, but I think it's done a half reasonable job... cheers James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205686-international-brotherhood-of-hobbyists/page/24/#findComment-2523710 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
Great stuff guys! Cheesy, that dude looks like he had a nice roll in the mud hole...or landed in one or something. Khornate, I still believe that your axe is one of the best I've seen. Your red is also very rich! And Sparta! You've already received the Terminators? I haven't even gotten down to the post office yet! (going now by the way) Great stuff guys. Perhaps you could all check out my thread and help me with my Chapter Banner? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205686-international-brotherhood-of-hobbyists/page/24/#findComment-2523725 Share on other sites
cheeseychaoslord
Thanks guys!! Normish: I used Badab Black, Orgryn Flesh and a mix of the 2. He wa originally a marine who I tried a yellow on, bu that failed. KK: I love the way the blue highlights on the black half contrast on tha red. It looks great man! :P Bye! KhornateKiller
Thanks for the very kind words folks, @ Bloodhowl i just followed the tutorial for the sanguinor's NMM sword in White Dwarf 364 ;) @Pig Thanks mate you think the gems are ok ? I didnt think they looked quite right myself. Regarding the wings hit it with Mithril Silver ?? Although going on what Normish said about the gold not looking right that thought has crept into my head now lol What would people reckon for that bit to be painted Red/Black like the split scheme ? Pig Of Sparta
Yeah, I really like the gems. I don't know whether you've added gloss varnish to them or not but they really shine and the fade from lowlight to highlight is spot on. As for the wing 'tops' I'm not sure if red and black would work on them but it could be worth a try. If you were wanting to do a harsh highlight on the gold, I'd water down some Scorched Brown and glaze them first. This'll help to define where the highlights will go and also start them for you as well. Then you could go back over them with the gold you used for them before working lighter if you want to.... Shorts, don't worry about it, I've got plenty to work on until they arrive :). Now I have a question for everyone. I get paid twice this month and my missus is allowing me to splurge some (most?) of the 'spare' pay on ' my little men'. One of the things I'm thinking about getting is FW's Lugft Huron mini, however I don't really like the way his heavy flamer sticks out. So after some thought and a semi frustrating 5 minutes using GIMP (followed by a less frustrating 2 minnutes using paint) I've come up with this: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/Trading%20Stuff/lhuron5-1.jpg My question is; do you think the heavy flamer looks better or worse now? KhornateKiller
I think it looks good like that mate, I got one order to :cuss Although i may need to find a new right arm for him as im eyeing up the first for a possible chaos conversion ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205686-international-brotherhood-of-hobbyists/page/24/#findComment-2524362 Share on other sites

Brother Martemis
i like it, the actual model looks like its brand new ( in 40k terms) and that just feels wrong - this one is cooler i too am ordering one for the right arm, and the lion head shoulder pad ;) B) :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205686-international-brotherhood-of-hobbyists/page/24/#findComment-2524405 Share on other sites
Lestat
That Huron model is giving me ideas for a Lion El'Johnson conversion. I'd have to scale it up of course to incorporate the Primarchs size ................................. Wish I didn't have so much to do with other projects right now - namely a Death Company army! Me too Lestat. I saw The Lion in him, and the shoulderpads. And Sparta, it looks good like that, although, if I was going to shorten the barrel length, I would shorten the nozzle length too. Master Chaplain Astador
Hey guys, I finally have been able to get on and post some of the stuff I have been working on! Dante's wings are finished, his backpack in progress. No pics of the wings, but the pack WIP. http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/blood%20angels/3f9142a9.jpg http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/blood%20angels/320e0082.jpg Close up of the axe http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/blood%20angels/4940760c.jpg And the terminator from the other pics is finished! ;) Quick pics here: http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/blood%20angels/a61874a9.jpg http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo161/WarForgeStudios/Personal%20Armies/blood%20angels/24c69087.jpg Enjoy! :) Internet is restored at my house on the 30th, so I'll be on much more regularly after tomorrow! Pig Of Sparta
The yellow on that Terminator looks great Astador. Really Liking Dante's glowing jump pack too :). Thanks for all the views on Huron. I'm 99% certain I'm gonna buy him now and make the modification to his flamer. To be honest Shorts, shortening the nozzle never occured to me, but I might go and play with paint some more and see what it looks like ;). tarkus, I've been too busy painting to use it so far I'm but I was thinking about using it on friday night... Finally, a wee update of the Ultramarines Terminators I'm working on: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9071.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9070.jpg cheers James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205686-international-brotherhood-of-hobbyists/page/24/#findComment-2524744 Share on other sites
