Skirax keeps bugging me to look at this thread. And I'm glad I did. There are some really cool models here.

Where do I sign? :)

Aye lad, glad to see you here. You are already a member :D Check out the website for more information.

PoS, should we all have the address in our sig in some form if we are mods of the site?

How large are those ships compared to marines? I think I have seen a conversion using BFG-ships combined with bikes to make PH-jetbikes. Anyone got any clue on what to get if I was going to do that? I went through the BFG-part of GWs webpage, but since I have no idea how big they are I didnt know what to get.

Nataneal, the plastic cruisers are a little on the small side for use with jet bike conversions I think, but I'll see if I can get a photo of one next a marine for scale later on ;)

cheers

Cheers James.

Would you like me to do the size comparison since you gave me your SM cruisers? I could easily take care of it in...5 hours, after my classes end.

Yes ;) the thunderbolts are definitely skmethig you want to get. They're gorgeous. And I only had a tiny bit of warpage. Around te canopy, couple of wings, and the landing gear flaps. Not bad

Although FW said theyd give you perplex for windows..I couldn't fond mine. Oh well. For now.

@ Skirax: I wouldn't say it was mandatory to have the site address in your sig if you're a mod, but the more people who have it, the more people'll see it....

@ shorts: if you've got time to do a couple of comparison shots that'd be great. I forgot to take one when I had the camera out earlier <_<. The annoying thing is that I could have got a thunderbolt this month, but I kinda went PA crazy with my cash. Ah well, there's always next year :D. I've noticed with Forge World though that it's kinda like a game of chance as to what kinda quality you're gonna get with them, which is strange cause they use 'the most advanced techniques' for their casting. When you compare their stuff to HassleFree Miniatures or Studio McVey's stuff, FW is shockingly bad at times. I know that resin is for the more experienced modeller, but you shouldn't have to break out the green stuff to correct a gaping mould line/slippage every time you drop 20 odd quid on one of their mini's. The guy in quality control must think anything better than a total miscast is acceptable sometimes!

Anyway enough moaning (I love Forge World really, just get hacked off when I have to spend an two and a half hours filling gaps) , as promised here's some photos of my mildly converted Lufgt Huron, Chapter Master of the Astral Claws, Warden of the Maelstrom and the Tyrant of Badab:

http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9168.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9169.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9171.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9172.jpg

The reason he appears to be floating is that he's pinned but not glued to the base. This is so I can finish detailing the base without fear of getting glue or anything on him and so he'll be easier to paint. You can also see the areas that I had to greenstuff to cover the fairly nasty mould issues on him, although the g/s on the shoulder pad was to repair the damage that my overzealous cutting, combined with a hidden air bubble in the trim caused I'm starting to think I might save him for the Golden Bolter comp, however I also have my converted Sevrin Loth (who might not actually remain Sevrin Loth) who might get that honour:

http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9177.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9179.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9178.jpg

Did you spot the conversion? The first person who does gets an internet cookie....

He's only blu-tacked together just now as I need to clean a couple of mould lines on him, add a little greenstuff to his conversion (did you spot it yet?) and I might remove the Red Scorpions sigil from his shoulder guard. Also his base needs detailing and I might do something like this:http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9175.jpg

with him. If I did though, I'd mount both mini's on 25mm bases and then use some plasticard with holes cut into it(for their bases) to build up a spare 60mm base and call it 'MIND WAR!'

cheers

Hmm, not seeing the conversion, though he looks awesome. The backpack maybe? Er, the exhaust thingies on the backpack I think. Prehereseyfied

You're right, FW is a hit or miss, but all my smaller stuff (Culln, DA dread, and dread arms) had great casts, its just these big things that are flawed. Huron looks awesome, if only I had a way to fit him into my army. And is that a purity seal on the blue piece of paper in the background? ;)

Love Seth with the pour soul.

Imperial Battleship (Emperor class)

And probably the most accurate photo of a Space Marine Strike Cruiser. The prow has been shaven off...so I put a resin chunk there to represent the size. If you look hard enough behind the side guns, you can see the width of the prow of the strike cruiser beneath...

Shorts and Vairocanum are both right, I switched his mk VII back pack for a mk IV/V/VI one. But since shorts wasn't sure.... I think you both get a cookie :D.

The conversion was actually pretty easy to do thanks to my trust new Citadel Knife, not the best I know but it's much better than the Stanley ones I'd been using before. Trimmed the book and everything off the top of his pack, carved a gap in the power cables on top of the other pack, a litle bit of extra cutting for the scrolls at the back to fit and hey presto, a little spot of greenstuff for the tiny gap from the cuts and were sorted :).

As for Huron, I doubt I'll get to field him in many (if any games) but as soon as I saw the sheer awesomeness of the mini I knew I had to have it! I'm just trying to decide just now whether to glue is head in place before painting so I can get the highlights placed right or not...

Oh and thanks for doing those comparison shots for Nataneal :)

Wow Pig Of Sparta, that 'mind war' idea is awesome! looks fantastic, love the Loth model. FW have been doing great figures lately, i remember when they were mostly Rhino doors and titans but im really loving the stuff they are doing now.

I think im gonna have to get my hands on a Huron too, too damn cool...

Por Nataniel.

Thanks a lot, man. At first I thought you wrote "poor Nataniel" Then i realised it was french, or whatever it is.

Gonna have to start thinking about how to convert them, but adding parts of a bike to the Imperial Cruiser should make it viable as a PH-jetbike I think. Now, off to find the money to spend on this project :D

@Captain Mick - looking good mate, love seeing Chaos baneblades, especially nurgle ones! I saw one a while ago, with a huge barrel of goo, with hoses coming out and going into the turret, looked really cool, ill try to track down a pic.

Looks pretty good, green purity seals never sit well with me, even on BA red I'd paint them darker red but that's just my preference. I'm not sure which sword I'd use but I'd make it big nevertheless!

Russ

Yeah, i darkened the green a little, ive just always done green or gold purity seals for my BA's. The dark red looks cool (ive even seen black ones look pretty effective) so ill have to experiment i think! As for the sword, heres a pic:

gallery_49031_5367_53641.jpg

The blade is unpainted at this point, but its pretty damn big, some might even say too big, but its gonna be on a pretty decent base so it should look cool.

Thanks,

Replica

[Looks at Nurgle Plaguereaper and throws up]

Effect works mate! Well done!

@Pig: I really do love the Librarian. That is one sexy model. The diorama you should do, but make it so a the Librarian on a normal base slots into it so he can be used in a normal game.

I might have a couple of shots of my True-Scale marines here, and maybe some Inquisitorial things too.

The battleship front section is a better bet - and then getting the rest of the model added to an Imperial Cruiser or similar.

Right. Thanks a lot for the tip. A friend just called and said he had lots of different ships at home, so I'll be looking at them together with a bike next week or so. Gonna keep this in mind then.

And to all you other guys - your work is an inspiration to me, and I am forever grateful that you keep updating this thread all day long =D

Mick, thats awesome. Good job nastying that bad boy up! Secret project is right, I can't believe you were able to keep that a secret!

Replica, that looks great. I love the chipping around the terminator crux. Thats great. The sword is pretty large.

Haha, I would have thought it was a typo for 'for Nataniel' haha.

Quick question, I hope someone can help. I'm beginning my Marines Malevolent army, and the inspiration for my army comes from the Palace of Thorns section of the Cities of Death book. That, in my personal opinion, is the best damn pic of a marine ever. I know he's an Astral Claw, but the rough armour, battered paint, scarred face...It feels like the ol' Rouge Trader art, but updated. Problem is, my book disappeared during my last move, and I'm kinda going off of memory right now. Does anyone know where I could find that pic online? Thanks for the help, gents...and I'll get a pic of the WIP for my test mini up as soon as I can.

Edit: Sorry, naughty question. Didn't realize that would break Forum rules...Sorry....please ignore.

Hi folks, not been on a lot recently because of family reasons (and I also bought an Xbox as a bit of a distraction too........but thats another story)

Those Red Scorpions look pretty nice Pig - might have to buy some when I go up to Warhammer World in November. Those and some older mark armour kits. Maybe some character conversion bitz too.................

A couple of things I've been working on over the last couple of weeks or so:

http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9167.jpghttp://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/DSCF9165.jpg

When I traded some stuff with Shorts, I found an Imperial Cruiser that was missing it's front weapons batteries. Inspired a by a conversion I'd seen on eBay I hacked away the mount for the missing weapon batteries and glued the prow back on....

I started work on a heresy jetbike using a BFG cruiser and a marine bike along with a couple of jump-packs. The pics are on this thread somewhere or you can find them here: http://brotherhoodofhobbyists.freeforums.o...etbike-t51.html

I will get this finished one day, but theres so much other stuff to do as well!

Still trying to get my DC army complete. Most of it is now base coated and am working on up through various highlights (note to self: buy more Hawk Turquoise) Still got a few models to convert for another squad. At the rate I'm working, it might get finished by the next edition of 40k!

Anybody have a decent recipe for rust streaks? All my attempts have looked downright hideous...

What have you tried? Something I've found to work well is to paint the whole area with a mix of blazing orange, bestial brown and a little black. Then dry brush bestial brown mixed with bubonic brown. Then stipple and lightly drybrush the metal over it, leaving patches of the rust Colour as big as you want. You can add inks in too.

I've tried something similar, although I mix 1:1 sunburst yellow and scab red (don't have any orange right now) plus some rust weathering powder. Works well on my tanks, but I'm trying to get the same effect on the bolts and pipes of power armour, but streaked, kinda like this...

The same technique comes out too chunky, and simplifing the process isn't giving the same effect. Thoughts?

I've seen this effect done nicely with oil paints and thinner, little dab of rust colour and you tease it with a thinned brush. The technique was shown to me by a historical modeler I know. Have you tried thinner on the weathering powder by chance?
