Blue_Cypher
A mate mentioned that I should post my BA up here to share & I have to admit that after browsing around the forum I have to say that it's a fantastic resource. Now I remember why I joined those many years ago. Anyway here's the 2 squads i have so far: Combat Squad (other half is in the works): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/bases01.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/tac23.jpg The helmet on the sergeants base is magnetized & it just a red thirst marker. Scouts: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/scouts06.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/scouts07.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/scouts04.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/scouts05.jpg Here's Some WIP shots of my Rhino too: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/rhinowip.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/rhinowip003.jpg Still a lot to do on the Rhino though. Chaplain Hiltraud
Blue_Cypher, I really like your painting style! I love the battle damage (especially on the rhino!) and the weathered feel of your marines. I'm going to keep an eye on this thread! Keep up the good work. Yours in Honour and Faith, Chaplain Hiltraud
Blue_Cypher
To be honest the skin actually doesn't have that many levels of highlighting to it. I think there is 4 layers of 3 colors with a purple/ogryn flesh wash at some point (sorry can't remember exactly where I did the wash). I use Reaper Master Series skin tone triads for most of the skin tones I do though & that helps make them look "right" & saves you trying to remember which colors you mixed with the basecoat. Chaplain Hiltraud I love doing a lot of weathering & it's a piece of cake to do so I can guarantee you that you will be seeing a lot more on some of the later models. The theme for the army is that they are fighting Tyranids on an Ecclesiastic world (shrine world? something with temples anyway) but it hasn't seemed right to give either a tactical squad or scout sniper squad a lot of battle damage or Tyranid gore. Next squad after the Rhino is my Honor Guard & they will be caked in gore & covered in battle damage.
Blue_Cypher
Here's the last WIP shots of the Rhino before it's done: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/rhinowip005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/rhinowip004.jpg The stone bits aren't staying that color but I need some hairspray so I can paint it up in standard colors & chip it down to the stone. Should look cool once it's done. After that the lower sections will be getting some weathering powders applied much like the marines & I'm done. Blue_Cypher
Off to work but before I go I thought I'd post a pic of my WIP Blood Champion. Nothing too specially, just a modified shield with the company symbol: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/bcwip01.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/bcwip02.jpg Also started on the Sanguinary Novitiate but there's a bit more work involved with him. I'm making a grail for him & need to modify the reductor hand to hold either a bolt pistol or chainsword, whichever I can fit (the grail won't fit well). Zeller
I love your scout camo cloaks. What is your secret?
Blue_Cypher
I just start with a khremi brown basecoat & then stiple on one of the Reaper master series bone triads (can't remember which 1 sorry). After that I do shading with watered down khremi brown again & highlight with the lightest bone color again. Pretty easy to do & takes very little time. I'm pretty sure I have pics of step by step if you want them. I tend to take pics of stuff like that on my phone so I can remember how to do it. Blue_Cypher
Rhino's done finally: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/rhino002.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/rhino003.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/rhino001.jpg Poor pics but also not my best work. You really can't see a lot of the detail though unfortunately. The paint chips on the stone icons didn't come out great but it will do. The weathering looks a lot better in the flesh too. I think the bright light is making it look a little off. I wasn't sure if the varnish was going to blow it all away so I did 2 heavy coats of powders. A lot did get blown off but enough stayed on & I kept spraying varnish till enough did get blown off actually. Quite a few things I'm not happy with on this model but it will do for now. I'll probably go back & paint something on the top hatches at a later date as well as attach & paint the tow rope & dozer blade I have for it. Doubtfull I will sleep before the world cup final so I'll try do some more work on the honor guard & see how they turn out.
Blue_Cypher
Sanguinary Novitiate all but done. Just need greenstuff to dry so I can attach the Blood Chalice. Really stoked with how this guy has come out: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/novitiate.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/bloodchalice.jpg The little blood drops on the chalice were driving me to insanity but I persisted & whilst it isn't perfect I'm really happy with it. Also managed to get it to fit into the arm with the reductor which is nice. It's just gonna need a little stem which I will sculpt onto the pin that will hold it in place. Once it's all painted I'll be using some blood colored resin flowing out of the cup so I can cover up any of the messier bits on the top. I was a little worried about the pose. He looks like he's running flat out & he's holding a cup full of blood. Then again I imagine that BA etiquette classes are less about walking with books on heads & more about running with cups of blood
Arturas
Actually on corbulo it looks like the chalice has a sort of cap (or maybe that's just how I've seen it painted). makes sense; you wouldn't want that stuff spilling.
Blue_Cypher
Tiny update. I finished the sang novitiate & changed the pose of the BC a little to fit more with the static pose. I prefer the previous version but I couldn't get the shield to fit well with any of the bolt pistol arms so I used the Dark Angel combat shield arm. I figured it was a better option than cutting up the shoulder pad to make it look damaged. I was going to add a bolt pistol to the BC's hand but there seems to be some contention as to him having one so I'll just pop a holstered one on his belt. I'll need to finish the rest of the squad to see if I will keep him that way. He might look a little too static compared to the rest. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/bluecypher/honorguardwip003.jpg The rest of the squad will just be standard. I just need to magnetize an arm on each of the models so I can change the weapon options.
