Golden Helmets for Terminators?

Grimm Blade

I was hoping that some of you would be able to illuminate me as to why Terminators do not generally get equiped with Golden helmets.....

I thought that it was written in the Codex that Golden helmets denote Veteran status....... I see the majority of players giving Stern and Vanguard models golden helmets, but never the Terminators.......

Did I miss something, or is it just a personal preference thing?

Also, I was wondering if the Angels Sanguine followed the Codex in regards to helmet colours?

Gold helmets are for honor guard. Not veterans. If a blood angel is in the 1st company (veteran assault squads in 3rd ed. book, VAS/stern/van in current I suppose) and not wearing terminator armor (which kinda gives away his veteran status) his right shoulder pad insignia is a skull.

According to the top of page 71 of the codex gold denotes all veterans now. All both of the previous codices said gold was honor guard but now honor guard are counted as normal veterans. I believe most people don't give terminators gold helmets because on the same page the terminators pictured have red helmets. I don't see any reason why they don't GW just didn't paint them that way, I'd say go for it though, at least the Sergeants. As for the Angels Sanguine I believe they do, on page 80 there is an image of a Angels Sanguine Veteran with a gold helmet. Hope this helps.

Awesome! This absolutely helps...

I am in the planning stages of how to paint my Space Hulk Terminators and I want to be acurate in my representation. Not sure if I am going to go for Blood angels or a sucessor yet though ;) Anyways, thanks again for the info ;)

I say leave 'em red. They always have been and GW didn't paint them gold in the codex despite the fact that they are new models (as evidenced by the DC/SG head on the sarge and the forge world shoulder pads). The Space hulk termies also have red helmets. So if you are playing them as actual blood angels and not a successor than you should keep their helmets red.

We all know that if they were supposed to be gold GW would have made them gold if it meant selling more paint.

Of course it all might change next time around, so accurate isn't necessarily going to be, well, accurate. If you want to represent things as close to possible, by all means go for it, but realize that GW painted neither the SH terminators (which came out the year before), nor those in the current codex gold. On the other hand, I always like seeing something slightly different from the Codex, as otherwise things get boring, so I'd go with whatever you want.

There are sound arguments on both sides for sure... But I think that I will stick with my original desire to give the Terminators golden helmets.

I know that even wearing terminator armour is a honour, and shows that the warrior wearing it is a hero in his own right. But I want to give these guys a little something extra! :D

Besides......The BAs are a chapter that prides itself on its artistry are they not? So why shouldn't they take this opportunity to spruce up their armour......

I may do my termie helms layering bone and leave the gold for non termie vets...also may do my assualt marines with bone helms as well as I HATE the yellow helms in the codex for them.

I believe that the Blood Ravens have bone colored helmets for their vets and it looks pretty good on the models. The only critisism I have is that there isn't a consistant theme with who has what colored helmet (vets and assault are the same)

I am trying to ensure that there is consistency, which is why I was asking about what golden helmets represented. Now that I know they are for vets ALL, vets will have them.

Thanks everyone for the replies....I know that they are my models, and that I should do what I want with them  but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't too far off base with what I have planned

I was thinking as another idea of making the difference between assault and regular troops based on shoulder trim differences with black and have their helms stay red, Sergeants using red trim and black background with maybe bone helms, and then vets and termies using bone (maybe devastators too since the dex mentions they have more experience). This would essentially save the gold for sang guard and honor guard.

Or I'll just use gold for all vets and go with bone on devs and assault marines and not play the trim game on the shoulders.
