DarkShape
I've got every technique and colour scheme hammered out to finish off my blood angels, except the wings. Namley the wings on teh Sang guard, and the wings on the blinged out shoulder-pads from the DC/SG box sets (I will be using them for my whole army) I'm just completely lost on how to do a great feathered wing effect, I've tried blue hued base and working to the white, I've also tried gray scale. I just cant seem to find a method within my skill level that looks decent. Do any of you have some great tips on how to pull off a feathered angelic wing effect? IronKobra
Personally I really like the Blue/White wings. It looks a little more erm...I Don't know exactly but I think it's a little nicer than regular greys. Here is how it looks on the DC wing guards I used on my converted Moriar the Chosen: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPMoriar45-1.jpg - Undercoat Black - Basecoat Shadow Grey - Next coat 1/2 Shadow grey & 1/2 Space wolf Grey, leave shadow grey in deepest areas - Next straight Space wolf grey, leave the previous layer showing - Next 1/2 Space wold grey & 1/2 Skull White, focus on the edge from half way along the feather and to the tip - Light edge highlight of pure skull white
Dingareth
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/DinGareth/DSCN0614.jpg Astronomicon Grey as a base Asurmen Blue wash Astronomicon Grey again, leaving the blue showing in the cracks Hightlighted with a 50/50 mix of Astronomicon Grey and Skull white With a final highlight of Skull White to finish it off Good in theory, now if only I had a steady enough hand to pull it off... daboarder
I usually heavy drybrush up from a basecoat, for example to get white/bone I'll base with bubonic brown, heavy drybrush on bleached bone then lightly drybrush white over that.
Angelus Mortifer
The great thing is there are lots of people here who do really good wing effects, all of them different, so you'll have a decent choice of what will work with the rest of your colour scheme. My recipe is: - Codex Grey base colour. - Badab Black wash all over. - Codex Grey over the main parts leaving the darker recesses alone. - Fortress Grey highlight, straight up, though slightly blended and leaving a bit of the Codex Grey in the deeper areas. - Space Wolf Grey highlight, as above, but focusing more on the raised areas/tips. - A light highlight of Skull White on the extreme edges, again, slightly blended. http://i741.photobucket.com/albums/xx54/SebJones_photos/Blood%20Angels/Tac4th3.jpg http://i741.photobucket.com/albums/xx54/SebJones_photos/Blood%20Angels/DC12.jpg http://i741.photobucket.com/albums/xx54/SebJones_photos/Blood%20Angels/BPredFront1.jpg Hope you find what you're looking for and show us the results too :D

Rybnick
I'm just getting to the point where I need to paint the wings of my Sanguinary Guard as well, and I'm going with a slightly different color pallete so I'm kind of stuck on how to finish off my wings. My SG are in completely white armor, with black wings and gold accents on their armor. Now the jump pack wings I am going to make black as well, and I'm thinking of having a gray highlight. I've basically got two ideas base coating the wings black and ading gray highlights or basing them gray (likely codex or shadow grey) and then ading the black over that. Anyone have any tips or advice on black wings? As an aside I really like the look's of the white SG so far, when I get the wings done I'll post a pic. It doesn't seem many people are straying from the gold armor, so I'm guessing my Angel Encarmine SG will be at least somewhat unique. :D
Replica
While theres already a couple of good ways to paint the wings, i thought id throw my two cents in. I use Ultramarines Blue and just keep adding white. For the smaller wings i find 3 or 4 shades are all that is required but some larger scale stuff ive done has needed up to 10. I sometimes paint a line of blue ink into the groves on the bigger models. ~ Replica
