Paint Scheme...

The Inquisition's colours are black and red mostly (darker red, or crimson), as that's how you see them generally. Gold is a good colour to add on details along with white - you'll be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't associate those colours with the Inquisition.

So your planned colour scheme is just the right thing, though the Inquisition isn't organised like a normal army so you can do any colours you want and it would be fine. Except pink though, nobody would take a pink Inquisitor seriously.

Would you DARE laugh at the pink Inquisitor?

My various Inquisition folks have black armor (carapace, power, whatever) red cloth or undersuit (so stormies are red cloth with black outer armor), then bone colored outer robes if any. This compliments my Sisters (white with black robes with red inside of the robes), Space Marines (Blood Ravens) and Grey Knights (like the book), while maintaining a seperate identity for the Inquisitorial units. It's been working for me :D

Damn skippy I would.

I paint my Inquisitorial forces mostly black with blue fabric bits and shiney details. Grey Knights get basecoated with blue washed mithril and blue fabric bits, the warrior nuns are black with bone trim and blue fabric bits.

Contrast this to my guard that are mostly green with blue fabric bits and shiney details and my Marines that are blue with blue/black fabric bits and red/white details.

The blue fabric bits are a diliberate choice. One those rare occasions I get to field an "Army of the Imperium" it ties them all together.

My entire Witchhunters army is painted in shades of pink. Ain't nobody laughing for more then 3 turns though... As for Inquisitor color schemes: true, GW does almost all of their Inquisitors in black, red and gold. And then they write how these men are as individualistic as they get. I'd say find a nice original color scheme to either make him stand out in your army, or make him blend in. Just make it an ace paintjob and you won't be disappointed.

Hmmmmm... pink powerarmoured Inquisitor, with a 'null rod' cane, a fur coat and a zebra skin psychic hood... I smell another project coming...

I decided to make my IST's more formal, so I went with white armor for my inquisitor and stormies, while the cloth for the IST's uni's and my GK tabards is shadow grey. The =][= cape is a deep redish purple with grey fur, and the purple, grey and white is carried through his retinue (purple for robes, grey for the servitor's clothes, white accents for all weapons). This is topped off with gold accents on anything metallic. The end result is that each type of unit looks very different, but they all have shadow grey and white in common, which ties them together nicely.

Thus, I would suggest making him whatever color you want, but giving him a little bit of accent that is the same color as your army you'll use him with. Capes are a great place to do this, and you can even make the outside of the cape one color and the inside another, either to match an accent color in the army or to match a totally different army.
