The Sanguinor (heresy era) & Commander Dante (classic)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I am having my new army painted on commission. I decided in the mean time to build a converted Sanguinor model and paint it myself. Probably by the time I am finished my entire army will be ready. I am a slow painter.

My thoughts for my conversion are as follows. I like the idea that the Sanguinor is Azkelon, first captain of the original Sanguinary Guard, who ran the chapter immediately following the death of our primarch. Based upon this point of view I decided to go mostly with a pre heresy look and want the model to be completely WYSIWYG. In tribute to Sanguinius my Sanguinor wears black artificer armor and his armor was selected to have the pre heresy look. So he is quite a bit different in appearance from the GW mini but I like it.

I hope to have some WIP pictures up by Wednesday evening.

Finally found my camera just before hitting the sack this evening. The batteries are charging now. I hope to have up some pix by Tuesday evening, hopefully tomorrow night. I have seen a nice painting technique for gold by Chaplain Darrius in another thread and have decided to with that instead of black now. I have done about 70 percent of the painting for my converted Dante (SG kit) and will post a few pix of him as well.

The converted Sanguinor has wings. I decided not to use the wings on Dante and go for the classic look as much as possible. The Sanguinor was modeled to have a heresy era look. To be honest I'm not much of a fan of the wings as they just make packaging your army more of a chore. The modeled the Sanguinor such that his wings are swept back for a dynamic pose... He is supposed to be swooping down into close combat. The Sanguinor I felt needs his wings to make easy to identify on the table top. I'll try to get some WIP pix of the Sanguinor up on Sunday; I'm playing in a tournament tomorrow. :)

For what it's worth, I've pinned all my wings for the exact reason you mentioned... I converted my metal Dante to have a Sang Guard backpack, and I've made mine so that it can be taken off for storage in a case, while everyone else with those wings has the wings removable separately, and I slot them in after unpacking :)
