Serunox
Evening Brothers. I just played my first game with my wolves,I lost but I gave him a bit of hell back. So I went up agianst Blood Angels with a 1400 pts army.He had a lot of heavy support vehicles. So he picked of my guys bit by bit.At least I destroyed his dread with one shot with a power fist from my Wolf Guard. My Lone Wolf killed 2 guys before going up to a dread.Unfortunately the game ended before starting the fight as we played a capture point mission. My Wolf lord attatched to a pack of Sky Claws killed 8 of his assualt squad guys and a Librarian lol.He was so pissed off when my WL killed him in one go. ;) So what advice do my fellow battle brothers have to aid me in future wars? Im short on money for the moment so Im kind of stuck on footslogging as transports etc are expensive.Only have a 9man Sky Claw pack. Frontline989
The best thing you could do would be to buy a box of devastators and convert them to Long Fangs. The long range anti-tank weapons will help you kill enemy transports, tanks, and to put fire on other long range weapon teams like lootas or other devastators. With the split fire ability you can take out multiple targets on your turn and that should make your footslogging alot easier as you won't have to weather as much fire before you can assault your targets. Aeddon
One word SCOUTS OBEL those pesky support vehicles ^this If you've still got the pieces from the SW boxset than all you need is a box or two or scouts. They're cheap, killy and über effective! Last game my regular opponent thought he'd be smart and park his devastators farther away from the board edge to keep them safe. He also had a Terminator Assault squad next to them to help keep them safe. When my WS came in I rolled a '3' and brought them in behind him. after moving 6 inches onto the table they were still about 10 inches away so I shot them with 7 BP and a MG. Due to some lucky rolling on my part (and unlucky on his ;) ) he lost four out of his five guys and failed his leadership roll, running 8 inches towards me! I assaulted him for good measure, earning me a kill point and fell back a little to try to get away from his termies. Now, this example was due to some (as stated) very good luck on my part and bad luck on his but honestly WS's are my "always take" unit because they have worked very well consistantly. Moral of the story, Wolf Scouts are cheap and work great! All it takes is one good game with them to make your opponent rethink his strategy which give you the edge. Bikeninja
Personally, I would go with the Long Fangs. Wolf Scouts are in my opinion "situational". I have not had much success with them. I am still trying to find a combo that is more effective thought (haven't given on them). If I were strapped for cash then I would look at the Long Fangs. Mate, honestly you just haven't used them once In twenty plus games with my scouts the only time they haven't kicked ass is in one game 5 men Melta Gun Melta Bombs Plasma pistol (which im thinking of dropping) On support vehicles which generally don't move you are nailing them Took me a long time to start listening to the long fangs on here when they were saying never leave the Fang without them, foolish of me Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205793-first-game-with-wolves/#findComment-2455124 Share on other sites
Frontline989
I use both cnsistently but for him I think Long Fangs are the best option. Considering their is a fair chance his scouts might no come in until turn three his footsloggers could be decimated by then. Also if he has one unit of scouts he might come in and pop a tank. Okay but what if he has more than one like against BA baal press or IG or multiple battlewagons? With the LF he has a better chance of taking them out sooner and he can split fire to multiple targets. Scouts are great but for the OP Long Fangs are a more immediate need. I rarely have any success with Long Fangs against vehicles With the number of Meltas we can put in an army I think Long fangs are best off going for Armoured infantry and hordes leave the vehicles to melta toting scouts, thunderhammer toting lone wolfs and double melta and plasma grey hunters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205793-first-game-with-wolves/#findComment-2455149 Share on other sites
DV8
One thing to consider too is a Rune Priest with Storm Caller to give you some mobile cover saves. This way when footslogging you'll still get some manner of save against your opponent's heavier firepower. Vorion
personaly I like the scouts. Ive either always gotten the roll I wanted or always had a target on the board edge I came in on As for the long fangs you can't go wrong with them either. Fact is both SW scouts and Long fangs are better than vanilla marine scouts or devestators. its really your choice. Do you want to blow them apart from range or sneak up behind them and blow them apart up close? Guganation
There you have it. You need Scouts, LongFangs and a Rune Priest. I've managed to replace most of my old Wolves Army just using Ebay. If you're cautious and patient, you can get some awesome deals. The only new in box item I've paid for is the WG TDAs. I was thinking about another Long fang squad. He took out 3 of my long fangs with one blast so if it wasnt for that I would have had better luck. Well i want to blast him to bits and anyone to bits.Give my grey hunters enough time to get into assualt. And of ocurse a Rune Priest.I have enough bits to make one and have an extra missile launcher for the long fangs. Thanks for the help guys. Will let you know how the next game goes. Long Fangs, full 10 man squads of Grey hunters...And I would really recommend at least getting rhinos to put them in...they really do make the difference. The combo for Long Fangs that has allways done amazing for me is 3 heavy bolters and two missile launchers in one squad and 3 missile launchers and 2 lascannons in the other. This combo has decimated entire armies for me before. And in every game,it is my Long Fangs that allways make their money back and more. I like Scouts don't get me wrong...But Long Fangs allways come first as far as I am concerned. Kjarl Bluetooth
drop pods lots and lots of drop podsrhinos lots and lots of rhinos land raiders a few land raiders Not a very helpful reply - unfortunately, you forgot to read the OP!! Im short on money for the moment so Im kind of stuck on footslogging as transports etc are expensive. Whilst I always have 2 units of Long Fangs (4 x ML) in my 1500pt force, I love Wolf Scouts and the extra dimension they can give your force. They make your opponent uncomfortable and have to re-think their tried and tested way of playing. However, my view is that you need to attach a WG to the pack (just as you should be doing with your GH packs). I'd recommend one armed with combi-melta and PF but I also have a second pack led by a WG with combi-melta and MoTW. With one of your scouts also upgraded with MoTW this small unit can dish out a mass of attacks. I'd also go with one or more Rune Priests with Stormcaller as they're great value and it'd give you that extra layer of protection. Serunox
Thanks for the replys.I managed to rip apart my assualt on black reach set,use their legs plus the missile launcher model and create a second long fang squad.I also created a Rune priest to give my long fangs the extra cover.Im thinking about getting some vehicles, predators etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/205793-first-game-with-wolves/#findComment-2463703 Share on other sites
