Sanguinarian
Because of the way his Shadow of the Primarch ability works, it is easiest to justify Astorath in larger games (larger army = more targets to benefit from the ability). Personally I'd take him in an army with a couple of units of Vanguard with jump packs. 4 attacks each on the charge, with Descent of Angels and Heroic Intervention is a truly nasty combination. The main downside of such units is their reduced likelihood of gaining Furious Charge (Priests cannot join a unit if you want to use Intervention). Astorath mitigates this by giving them a 50% chance of Heroically squishing MEQs without reprise, due to the initiative bonus of Furious Charge. That would be extremely nasty as long as you don't mistakenly attach him to either unit of Vanguard Vets, or else they'd lose Heroic Intervention. lorider2
I like him in big battles. Forcing enemy death star units to rerolling invul saves and tripling your chance of FC pays off more in 1850+. It pays off more if you JP friendly as the JP priests can get expensive and are harder to protect, and yeah - he comes with a JP! However, in smaller games for 30 points more (and several elite slots) you can get a chappy, a libby, and a SP and your army will most likely be more well rounded. Still have a deathstar unit, but with more defensive abilities like the hood, Shield, and feel no pain. If you think about it, instead of rerolling invul saves its obviously better to have twice the number of attacks . .. and wounds!
