Welsh Paul
Hi all, first post here! I have only recently seen the WH Codex since GW put it in pdf format on their website and I really like the fluff for this army. I really don't care for competitive armies or lists and point blank refuse to use any kind of Space Marine so the Sisters of Battle are the closest that I will allow myself to do so. Anyway, the main problem that I can foresee other than the very old Codex is the lack of plastic Troops choices. Can anyone recommend a decent small list (1,000 - 1,500 points) that won't break the bank since I already have a substantial Tyranid ans Guard army to finish off? I will mostly be using Ebay to pick up some of the Troops models to save pennies but will most likely branch out into Forge World for the vehicles. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but SoB will break the bank regardless of where you buy them. I've built up a pretty sizable force over the years, buying most of them on ebay, but the days of good value sisters on ebay are long gone. You'll be looking at approx £30+ for a standard squad of 10. Special weapons are particularly expensive, meltaguns and hvy flamers especially. Seraphim are also very pricey as well. The big problem is that there aren't that many folks selling at the moment because we know what we've got is worth it's weight in gold. The combined lack of second hand minis and GW dropping the full squad boxes means that demand far outweighs supply and because there's no sign of plastics it continues to be the case for the foreseeable future. Welcome to the OH, I wish you luck in your quest. WarriorFish
Indeed, you have picked a worthy quest but a difficult one too. While we wait for plastic (don't get me started on how long we've been waiting already) you could always collect a force more slowly. With time you're more likely to find better deals (relative) and soften the impact of the cost. Hardly solving the issue I know but that's the best you can do! Since you've got Guard and Tyranids to worry about you could build your girls up as you work on them so that might work out well. As for an army list, at 1000 or so points you're best sticking with the basics. A Canoness and a couple of squads of SoB not only fills the mandatory FOC slots but also forms the backbone of your list. Our Troop choices are solid, especially mechanised so if in doubt getting some more basic SoB squads to fill the army isn't a bad idea, especially as you'll definitely be using them for larger games. Rhinos too obviously if you want to mech up (as plastic kits you should be able to get them cheaper unlike the metals). An Exorcist would be a good addition as they're great and our only long range anti-tank. To save money, you can get a Whirlwind and pimp it with some bits from the Immolator sprue if you like. That's only a brief outline, if you haven't already you can find out lots more here in the Ordos section of the B&C. The army lists section should give you plenty of list fodder to chew over. Last but certainly not least - welcome! Welsh Paul
Thanks for the advice folks. It's going to be more of a side project when time and money allow. Since I'm more of a painter than a player I'm not exactly in a rush to get a fully functional army within the next month or anything so I will see what goodies Ebay can provide over the next few months!
