Lt. Smash
The Brazen Wolves History The Brazen Wolves, a Chapter of Adeptus Astarte’s most likely founded from Ultramarine gene-seed, though they claim lineage to the, in their opinion far more headstrong, Rogal Dorn. The Brazen Wolves took the planet Angelo to be their homeworld, though at the time it served the Imperium as a prison complex populated entirely by murderers, recidivists and thieves. The Wolves soon set about on an extermination campaign. During the massacres and carefully planned killing sprees, the Wolves became impressed with the tenacity and determination that the prisoners employed, as well as their impressive knowledge of the labyrinthine prison complex. Some rumour that the Wolves even came to respect their foes, despite this, the Wolves killed their foes brutally and to a man, leaving their maimed bodies where they lay as a testament to the might of a Space Marine Chapter. The Brazen Wolves decided to use the Prison Complex as their Fortress Monastery, with each Battle Brother occupying one of the cells. The Brazen Wolves originally drew their recruits from the tribal populaces on neighbouring feral worlds, but after several fruitless recruitment schemes failed, a council of high ranking Chapter members was called to decide the fate of the recruiting program, and indeed the Chapter. After several days of intense debate, it was decided, that as put forward by Chaplain Xavier, rather than relaxing the initiation rites and trials, the Wolves would have to find tougher recruits. It was then that they were reminded of the prisoners who originally occupied the world, and their skill and determination. The Brazen Wolves began to take their recruits from members of penal colonies, but once again, it was to no avail. That was until Chaplain Xavier stumbled across a group of young men on death row for heinous crimes. They were accepted to take the trials. Of the men a single one made it through to the implantation stage. The Wolves began to offer their planet as a holding ground for the most evil of criminals. Soon after the complex was bursting with criminals. The Chapter Council, in order to compensate with the high number of potential initiates, decided to increase the odds further, making it a one in a hundred thousand chance to reach the initiation stage. Despite this the amount of worthy recruits still numbered in the thousands. The difficulty was more than tripled and still the Brazen Wolves were more than able to fully replenish their casualties. Gene-seed It is most likely that the Brazen Wolves are descended from the lineage of the Ultramarines, though the Wolves claim that they are in fact the sons of Dorn. None but the abnormally scant few Apothecaries would know for sure, and they aren’t saying. Combat Doctrines The Wolves fight with a primeval ferocity, rarely seen amongst the ranks of the Adeptus Astarte’s. This can be attributed to the fact that the Brazen Wolves are little more than murderers and thieves with their wildest dreams given life. The Brazen Wolves employ tactics that that most other Chapters would refuse to use on principal. These “tactics” were written down by the Fifth Chapter Council, in a tome roughly translated from the Wolves battle language, meaning “The Murder Gothic”. Bjorn Firewalker
Nice start. Are the Wolves a loyalist Chapter, or a renegade one? (Occupying a :P PRISON seems strange. What if Chaos cultists were among the prisoners? Who knows what damage their leftovers remain capable of.) Ferrata
I doubt Chaos cultists would be given the luxury of imprisonment - more likely a slow painful death would be their reward ;) I like the start, although it should be interesting to see how you get the idea that they are drawn from Ultramarine stock be praise Dorn... Why were the recruitment drives fruitless? Is it a gene-seed weakness? A process flaw? A poor population choice? Lt. Smash
Thanks for the replies. I have added a bit more text, including the beginnings of some of the other sections. Yes. The Brazen Wolves are loyalists, believe it or not. As most Chapters use Ultramarine gene-seed, I believe it's a third, wouldn't it be most likel;y for a Chapter who don't know their origins to be descended from them? The reason why the Wolves claim to be descended from Dorn, is because they associate more strongly with him then Guilliam. I'll include reasons why the drives were fruitless. I am inclined to set it at to difficult an intiation rite, for too weak an aspirant. More comments and critiscisms is welcome.
