A new Pup enters the fang...

Hello all, after nearly going with Blood angels for my 40k army I decided on space wolves, after all I have been a fan of them for over 10 years since I picked up the first Bill king space wolf novel.

After years of buying many space marines and painting bits and pieces I have quite a few bits already that I have just finished stripping, as well as these I have just ordered quite a few bits so here is what I have

Wolf Lord on Thunder wolf

Rune Priest

15 Wolf guard terminators

Spare bits to make up about 6 wolf guard in power armour

5 space marine assault terminators

5 AOBR Terminators

Two squads of 10 Grey hunters

Two squads of 10 tactical marines

3 Thunderwolf cavalry

Ten long fangs with missile launchers, 2x long fangs with Lascannons, 1 Long fang with HB and one with plasma cannon

Two Dreadnoughts, one with DCCW and Assault Cannon and one with Lascannon and Rocket Launcher

My next planned purchases are most likely 3-4 razorbacks, will probably only use them as rhinos but will leave hatch unglued so I have the option, this way I can totally change my army from footslogger to part mech.

After getting those I think I will get Logan and either land raiders or drop pods for a logan wing army (can you offer any advice here about what works? Also I am not that keen on going with the cookie cutter wolf guard with combi weapons route)

Is there anything else you recommend I pick up before the rhinos or anything I should add to my army before I do Logan wing?

Thanks for any help.

Oh and heres my army lists I made:

Welcome to the fang brother.Have an ale on us.

Thats a good list but I recomend getting some vehicles.I went up against a Blood Angels army.I have no vehicles which let my oponent take out my squads very easy.If you want to stay with footslogging like I do, have a few long fang squads .

Give each squad of blood claws, grey hunters etc a power fist where possible.I took out a dread with one blow from a power fist. You do go last in assault with the fist but its worth it.

Good luck

Welcome to the Fang. Help yourself to the ale.

Only one question.... Why two Tactical Squads AND two Grey Hunter squads? I would just make the tac's into Grey Hunters meself, or combine them to give me a Blood Claw pack and a start on another Grey Hunter or Blood Claw pack on the side.

Just a question, not a critique.

Welcome again, nevertheless

Thanks for the welcome all :D

I meant to put a note in saying the 2 Tactical squads are getting "wolfified" to become grey hunters as I want 4x 10 man grey hunter squads so I can expand up to 2000 points (1 GH pack per 500 points)

After I add Rhinos I plan on making 2 squads of 15 Blood claws, heavily converted with beaten up armour and with all backpacks magnetised so can use them as skyclaws aswell.

Yeah that's what I was thinking but that's a good way off yet, for now I just want to get 4 Rhinos then get it all painted up and start gaming with it, I haven't played a game of 40k in 10 years and mostly getting back into the hobby to make some friends as after me and my wife moved three years ago I have not had anywhere to make mates (I don't really do the whole going out with work mates thing)

Also my Battle force, terminators and a few other bits arrived in the post today, I got some Army painter strong tone dip so going to be experimenting this weekend with dipping and shaking vs painting it on and doing some highlights prior to dip application to hopefully get an above average result for dipping my entire army.

If I don't get any good results then I'll try mixing it with thinners and painting it on etc but hoping I can achieve what I want without doing that, and then I have Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off work so will be getting up to some frantic model building.

By the way has anyone tried doing rock bases with Cork Bark (the stuff you can buy from model railway / pet shops in a half tube)?

Try to get Crusaders for your Blood Claws. They can haul the entire pack plus one. Trying to do that myself.

BCs on foot are just as good.

Wolf priest in runic armor/WTT

WG in TDA/combi-melta/chainfist

15 BCs with 2 meltaguns

You can find this and other BC tactics, including skyclaws and swiftclaws, here SWG-BCs

Just scroll down the page for each article.

This site has helped me a lot, and I'd just it to you as a new wolf brother!

Welcome to The Fang!

( PS - We need wolf emoticons :) )

Yeah for my Bloodclaws I was primarily thinking of running them like Black templars foot sloggers but with grey hunters and devastators in the back field aswell as scouts.

Thanks for the link, I found the Space wolves grey blog last week and read most of the content on the site already, just starting the battle reports at the moment.
