Phoenix Legion IA Summary

Spartans

Recommended Posts

Below is a summary of my new idea and I wanted to get a little C&C on it so far.

Name: Phoenix Legion

Founding Chapter: Fire Hawks

Chapter Master: To Be Decided

Homeworld: None fleet based chapter

Fortress-Monastery: To Be Decided

Main colours: Purple-red with gold edging

Specialty: Close-quarter fire-fights

Battle Cry: “fire for Fire“

Summary

• Successor chapter to the Fire Hawks to fill the gap they have left. I know they vanished after the last founding but I think that as it was an entire chapter the High Lords would be willinf to found a new chapter to replace them just not make a big thing of it and order it be done.

• Use Fire Hawks geneseed which was sent to Mars as all chapters have to do

• Mutation occur in geneseed causing the Mucranoid to be hyper active permanently coating marine in a protective substance but also coating internal organs and implants in same substance

• Chapter’s structure is based around the 10-marine squad and its varient.

• Flamers, melta weapons and thunder hammers are widely used throughout the chapter. As one can imagine, this preference for flamers and meltas leads to a strong affinity for close-range shooting when in combat.

• They prefer to use drop pods over Thunderhawks.

• It is not quite known why but the chapter has an unusually high number of master crafted weapons and Artificer armour. One theory is that due to the undertaking of of the Phoenix Legion they have received communication from the Legion of the Damned who have passed on knowledge however no evidence has yet been found by the inquisition except for the higher than normal appearance of this mysterious band of Space Marines in the chapters chronicals.

• Marines of the Phoenix Legion burn their fallen brothers apon a pyre. When burnt all that remains is the ash, which is fired into space and Progneoids which have been coted by the Mucranoid which protects them from fire. The marines believe that once their ashes have been fired into space that they will join the Legion of the Damned.

Thanks for taking the time to read and please do post any comments good and bad all welcome :cuss

Okay, you have some good ideas butt here are a few areas which kind of ruin it. First, I would avoid the use of the word "Legion" in a chapter name, it harks back too much to the old Legions. There have been two "Legion" chapters to my knowledge, the Mentor Legion and the Mantis Legion, however in recent publications these have become the Mentors and the Mantis Warriors.

Second, chapters are not founded out of the Foundings - simples. 1 chapter is 1/1000 if the Imperiums strength in Astartes, it is not something to be done lightly.

Third, the link to the Legion of the Damned. Hint at it, share it in their beliefs, but never ever say it. Why? Because it ruins the story, the mystery of both your chapter and that of the LotD.

Finally, surely if their entire bodies are protected by the protective layer, it wouldn't burn if their glands are burnt either. It would make more sense to remove the glands and then burn their bodies.

Hi Ferrata thanks for you reply:

Legion can come out of the name easily just was something that seemed to flow well but I will remove it and think of something else to follow or preceed Phoenix infact I am thinking I could scrap Phoenix and have Fire "something" and thoughts or ideas are welcome.

I am not questioning your knowledge but are you sure I thought that all Chapters had to send 5% of their geneseed to Mars for testing and storage for use in the production of future chapters, with this in mind I thought that they could use the 5% sent buy the Fire Hawks prior to their demise. I am basing this on something I read on another website so it may be wrong.(am not sure if I can post the link but if so just say and I will if not I will PM it to you)

Your are quite right in the full IA I think I will avoid using the name Legion of the Damned and hint at it more as you have suggested.

In the summary I have not given full details and will try to explain it now. When a marine dies his Mucranoid stops flowing to the skin causing the existing coating to dry up and stop providing protection. The Mucranoid then directs its last energy in encasing the glands in the protective substance in an attempt to protect its own genetic coding. This substance is slightly thicker than the one that coats the skin, as the Mucranoid uses itself in the final production, it also hardens to provide a shell (womb) around the gland providing it with protection from fire cold and vacume but also nurishment to survive longer than it could out in the open. This egg as it were is then taken to the Apothcaries who cut it open with a saw to get to the gland and store it for later use.

Thanks for you comments I hope that makes sense and look forward to hearing what you make of my thoughts.

Some name ideas to replace Legion are:

Phoenix Marines

Phoenix Guards

Sons of Fire (and called Fortress Monastery ship the Phoenix)

Phoenix Lords

Phoenix Claws

Crimson Phoenix (would have to change paint scheme to crimson with gold edging)

Please let me know which you like and or dislike
